Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, connect the encoder with the stream key, confirm the incoming preview, then publish. A genuine 24/7 broadcast also needs reliable power and internet, monitoring, and a tested recovery plan—no setting alone guarantees an uninterrupted stream.
Choose how to show the vehicles
Live camera view
A computer webcam can provide a simple, fixed shot. For more control, an encoder can take an external camera feed and add overlays such as model names or title cards. YouTube describes these as supported streaming approaches; see YouTube’s streaming methods and requirements.
Before mounting a camera, decide which vehicles it should show, how lighting changes during the day, and whether viewers need to see exterior details, interiors, or both. A camera feed stays current only if someone moves or reframes it as inventory changes.
Prepared vehicle footage
Scheduled prerecorded footage can keep a presentation running without a camera operator continuously in the showroom, but it is not a live view of current stock. Keep the video and any model, price, or availability information accurate, and confirm you have rights to the footage, music, and other material included.

OneStream Live documents a hosted 24/7 prerecorded YouTube workflow and says the feature requires its Enterprise plan. Check its current plan terms and availability directly before depending on it: OneStream Live.
Prepare the channel and broadcast
- Check eligibility early. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help.
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, choose Go Live to open the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a broadcast and set its title, description, privacy, and thumbnail. Google’s YouTube live-streaming production guide covers this workflow.
- Choose the privacy setting deliberately. Use a test or unlisted broadcast while checking framing and overlays. An unlisted link can still be shared, so it is not a guarantee of confidentiality.
- Connect the source. For an encoder setup, copy the stream key for the correct broadcast into the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: do not show it on screen or share it publicly.
- Check the incoming signal. Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview. Inspect the picture, audio, overlays, and stream-health indicators before publishing. Receiving a preview means YouTube is receiving a signal; it is not the same as making the broadcast live.
- Publish and verify the viewer-facing result. Take the broadcast live in Live Control Room, then check the public viewing page from a separate device or browser. Confirm that the video and any vehicle details are legible.
Plan for continuous operation
A 24/7 stream depends on more than the YouTube broadcast setting. The camera or video source, encoder, internet connection, and power must all remain available. Assign someone to check stream health and chat if the dealership intends to engage viewers, and decide who will act when the broadcast drops.

- Check the showroom’s upload capacity under real operating conditions, and decide whether a backup internet connection is needed.
- Plan camera position and lighting, including how the shot will look after business hours.
- Keep inventory information current. The sources do not establish a built-in dealership inventory integration, so arrange a manual update process for overlays or prepared footage.
- Test what happens if the encoder or connection stops. YouTube offers scheduled-broadcast auto-start and auto-stop controls, and the OBS community guide discusses scheduled streams and reconnection, but these options do not establish robust failover. - Confirm that the dealership has the necessary rights for all music, video, and other visible or audible material. A live broadcast does not exempt a channel from copyright rules or YouTube’s policies.
Choose a stream schedule and protect the replay
Google’s production guide states that streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived; it advises recording streams longer than 12 hours for manual upload. A single 24/7 broadcast exceeds that threshold, so do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive for a complete replay. If the full recording matters, arrange a separate recording or use shorter scheduled broadcasts and verify the resulting archives.
YouTube’s API documents recording and DVR settings, but those controls do not change the production guide’s stated archive threshold. A segmented schedule can make replays easier to manage, but it requires someone to plan and monitor the transitions.

Troubleshoot common failures
YouTube does not show the encoder preview
- Check that the encoder is running and is configured with the stream key for the intended broadcast.
- Confirm the channel is eligible for live streaming and that first-time activation has completed; YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Check the encoder’s network connection and YouTube’s stream-health information before publishing.
The broadcast is receiving a preview but viewers cannot watch it
- In Live Control Room, confirm that you have taken the broadcast live. Preview receipt and publication are separate steps.
- Check the selected privacy setting and open the viewing page from another device to verify the viewer-facing result.
The stream drops or does not restart
- Check power, the upstream connection, and whether the camera or video source is still available.
- Review the scheduled broadcast’s auto-start and auto-stop settings and the encoder’s reconnection behavior. Test a deliberate disconnect and recovery before relying on them in operation.
- Have a named person responsible for restarting or escalating a failure; do not treat automatic settings as a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
The replay is incomplete or missing
- Check the broadcast duration. Google’s guide says only streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
- For a stream longer than 12 hours, use a separate recording or plan shorter broadcasts if a complete replay is required.
