To convert a Fortnite season start, copy the complete date, clock time and source time zone from Epic’s announcement, then enter all three into a date-aware converter using your city or IANA time zone. The result may have a different local date if the launch crosses midnight. Recheck Epic’s current schedule immediately before launch, because downtime, patches and playable access can occur at different times and season dates can change.
What you need before converting a Fortnite launch time
A time such as “2 AM” is incomplete. You need the calendar date, the clock time and the time-zone reference used by the announcement. Record the wording exactly, including an abbreviation such as ET or GMT, or a city and region such as New York or London.
- Date: Include the month, day and year. January 31, 2024 is not interchangeable with January 31 in another year because daylight-saving rules and weekday schedules can differ.
- Clock time: Preserve AM/PM wording or convert a 24-hour value carefully. “12 AM” means midnight; “12 PM” means noon.
- Source zone: Use the zone printed for that particular announcement. Do not assume every Fortnite feature uses the same reference zone.
- Your destination: Select your city or an IANA identifier such as
America/Los_AngelesorEurope/London, rather than entering a permanent numeric offset.
If the announcement gives only a date with no time zone, treat the result as unconfirmed. Look for the full wording in the current Epic announcement, the Battle Pass page or the in-game notice before calculating.

Step-by-step: convert the announced time
- Copy the complete announcement timestamp. Write it in one line, for example, “January 31, 2024, 2:00 AM ET.” Keep the year and zone attached to the time.
- Open a date-aware time-zone converter or calendar. Choose a service that lets you enter a named location or IANA zone. A converter that accepts only “UTC−5” cannot know whether daylight-saving rules apply on the selected date.
- Enter the source location or abbreviation. If the tool distinguishes Eastern Time from a fixed offset, choose the location-based Eastern Time option. If an abbreviation is ambiguous, use the city or region identified by Epic’s post instead.
- Enter your destination city or IANA zone. For example, choose
America/Los_Angelesfor Pacific Time in most of the United States orEurope/Londonfor the United Kingdom. A location lets the tool apply the destination’s historical and seasonal rules. - Read both the clock and the date in the result. Do not copy only the hour. A conversion can move the event to the previous or next calendar day.
- Compare the result with a synchronized device clock. Your PC or console should be set to update its date, time and daylight-saving adjustment automatically. An incorrect local clock can make a correct conversion appear wrong in-game.
- Check Epic again near launch. Confirm the current season end or start notice and look for a revised downtime or access window. Use the latest information rather than an old social post or screenshot.
Which conversion method should you use?
All of these methods can produce a local time, but they differ in how safely they handle seasonal rules and schedule changes.

A calendar or world-clock service is optional convenience. No physical product is required. For a single launch, the safest workflow is a date-aware converter followed by an official schedule check.
Why daylight saving can change the answer
Many regions change their UTC offset during the year. Eastern Time, for example, uses a different offset in January than during the North American daylight period. The same “2 AM ET” wording therefore cannot be converted with one permanent number for every date.
Destination rules matter too. A location may be on standard time while another is on daylight time, or one region may not observe seasonal clock changes at all. Date-aware conversion software evaluates the rules for the exact calendar date. A hand-written table such as “my zone is always three hours behind” can be correct for one season and wrong after a clock change.

Epic’s device guidance says a PC or console clock must be accurate and synchronized so it adjusts for daylight saving. Turn on automatic date, time and time-zone settings before relying on the displayed local time.
Use a location, not just an offset
An offset such as UTC−8 describes a relationship at one moment; it does not identify the rules that produced it. Selecting America/Los_Angeles tells a converter to use Pacific rules for the date. Selecting Europe/London lets it determine whether the United Kingdom is on GMT or British Summer Time on that date.

Check for a midnight date rollover
The local date is part of the answer. If the converted clock reaches 12:00 AM or later, the launch may occur on the next day. If it falls before midnight when your source date is already early morning, it may occur on the previous day.
Write the result in a full form such as “Tuesday, January 30 at 11:00 PM PST,” not merely “11 PM.” This prevents a common mistake in which a player opens the game on the announcement’s date even though the event occurs late the night before locally.

- Set a reminder for the destination date, not the date shown in Epic’s headline.
- If friends are in different regions, share each person’s local date and time rather than one universal hour.
Worked example: Fortnite OG Season 1
Epic’s Fortnite OG news post stated that Season 1 ended “on January 31 at 2 AM ET.” To demonstrate the method, enter the full timestamp as January 31, 2024, at 2:00 AM Eastern Time and then select a destination location. January is standard-time season for the Eastern United States, so the source instant is 07:00 UTC.

These are conversions of the stated January timestamp, not a promise that every season uses 2 AM ET or that a later schedule will remain unchanged. For another season, repeat the process with that season’s own date and source zone.
Fortnite does not use one universal reference time
Use the timezone printed for the feature you are tracking. Epic’s official support information is context-specific:

- Epic says the Fortnite competitive schedule is displayed in your device’s local time both in-game and on the website. If you are reading a competitive event schedule, verify that your device’s clock and time zone are correct rather than converting it from an assumed global zone.
- Epic says the in-game Item Shop and Webshop refresh at around 0:00 AM GMT. “Around” indicates an approximate refresh, not a guarantee that every item becomes available at an exact second. This reference applies to the shop guidance, not automatically to a season launch.
- Epic says the Battle Pass web page shows the current season’s end date, and the in-game Battle Pass tab also provides the current season information. Use those locations when checking how much time remains.
A season announcement, competitive schedule and shop refresh can therefore display different time conventions. Identify the feature first, then use its stated zone or local-device instruction.
Separate downtime, patching and playable access
A launch notice may describe more than one milestone. Server downtime can begin at one time, a patch can become available at another, and playable access can return later. Do not label the first time you see as “the season start” unless Epic says that is when the new season is playable.
- Convert the announced downtime start.
- Convert any stated maintenance or patch window.
- Convert the expected return-to-play time, if Epic provides one.
- Leave room for the possibility that maintenance lasts longer than planned.
Keep separate reminders for each milestone. This avoids treating a download notification as proof that the season is already accessible.
How to verify the schedule before launch
Schedules can be revised because of unforeseen factors. Check the current Battle Pass web page and the in-game Battle Pass tab for the season end date, then review Epic’s latest official announcement and social updates near launch. A cached article, search result or community countdown may still show an earlier time.
- Compare the date and time, not just the season number.
- Confirm that the source timezone has not changed between posts.
- Look for words such as “downtime,” “maintenance,” “available,” or “return to service,” which identify different milestones.
- If Epic changes the date, replace your calendar event instead of adding a second reminder that could cause confusion.
Make your device clock trustworthy
Windows PC
Open Settings > Time & language > Date & time. Enable automatic time and automatic time-zone selection when available, verify the displayed region, and use the synchronization control to update the clock. Restart the game after correcting a clock that was visibly wrong.

Mac
Open System Settings > General > Date & Time. Enable automatic date and time and confirm the time zone is determined from your location or selected correctly. Check the date as well as the hour.
Console
Use the console’s date, time and time-zone settings and select the automatic network option when offered. If the console is offline or has retained an old manual setting, reconnect it and verify the displayed local date before launching Fortnite.
Menu names can vary by operating-system or console version, but the required outcome is the same: an accurate clock, the correct local zone and automatic seasonal adjustment.

The time is off by exactly one hour
Check daylight-saving handling in both the source and destination. You may have entered a fixed UTC offset instead of a named location, or selected a city with different seasonal rules. Re-enter the date and choose the IANA zone.

Look for a date rollover. Confirm that the converter’s result includes the weekday and date, then set your reminder for that local date. Do not correct a previous-day result merely because Epic’s post displays a later calendar date in its source zone.

The game shows a different local time
Verify the device clock, time zone and automatic synchronization. Then check whether Epic is displaying a local-device schedule rather than the source-zone time you converted. Competitive schedules, for example, are described by Epic as local to the device.
The announcement and countdown disagree
Prefer the newest official Epic schedule. A countdown may have been created before a revision, may use a different time zone, or may count downtime instead of playable access. Recalculate from the complete current timestamp.
The announcement says “around” a time
Treat the converted value as an estimate. Epic’s Item Shop guidance uses “around 0:00 AM GMT,” so a small operational delay should not be interpreted as a timezone error.
A reusable checklist
- Copy the announcement’s complete date, time and timezone.
- Confirm the year and whether the time is AM or PM.
- Choose a date-aware converter.
- Select your city or IANA timezone.
- Record the full local date and time, including any previous- or next-day change.
- Check your PC or console clock and daylight-saving synchronization.
- Distinguish downtime, patch availability and playable access.
- Recheck Epic’s Battle Pass page, in-game tab and current official updates near launch.
What to remember
The reliable formula is: complete Epic timestamp plus a date-aware source and destination location, followed by an official schedule check. Never convert the hour alone, never assume every Fortnite feature uses the same reference zone, and never ignore a local date rollover. When the schedule changes, discard the old conversion and repeat the process from the newest announcement.
