Open the page, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux (or Command+P on Mac), choose the browser’s PDF destination, inspect the preview, and save the file. Print-to-PDF preserves the page as a paginated document; it is different from downloading the page’s HTML files with Save Page As.
Convert a web page to PDF in any browser
- Open the exact page you want to preserve. Wait for images, charts, and other dynamic content to finish loading.
- Open the print command. Use Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on macOS. You can also use the browser menu’s Print command.
- Choose the PDF destination described for your browser below.
- Review every preview page. Check headings, links, images, tables, page breaks, orientation, and the page count.
- Adjust scale, margins, paper size, color, backgrounds, headers, footers, or page range as needed.
- Click Save or Print, select a filename and folder, then reopen the PDF to confirm that it is complete.
Print preview matters because a site’s print CSS can change the layout, hide navigation, move images, or create unexpected page breaks. A page that looks correct on screen can still be clipped or split awkwardly on paper.
Google Chrome: Save as PDF
Steps
- Open the page and choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P (Windows/Linux) or Command+P (Mac).
- In the print dialog, set Destination to Save as PDF.
- Set the page range, layout, paper size, margins, scale, color, and whether to include background graphics.
- Click Save, choose the destination folder, and name the file.
Chrome normally places downloaded files in its default download location unless you changed that setting. If a PDF opens in a Chrome tab instead of downloading, open Chrome’s PDF-document setting and select the option to download PDFs rather than open them in Chrome.
Save the page as a web file instead
Chrome’s More > More tools > Save Page As command downloads a web page, usually as an HTML file with an accompanying resource folder. That creates a local web copy; it does not create a paginated PDF and may not preserve interactive or server-generated content.

Mozilla Firefox: Save to PDF
Steps
- Open the page, open the Firefox menu, and choose Print….
- In print preview, set Destination to Save to PDF.
- Choose orientation, page range, color mode, paper size, scale, margins, headers and footers, and backgrounds.
- Click Save, select a location, and reopen the result.
Reduce clutter before printing
Firefox can offer a simplified format when the page supports it. Use that option when available to remove surrounding navigation and focus on the article. Mozilla notes that a web page can appear differently on paper than on screen, so always inspect the preview.
If the built-in controls are insufficient, Mozilla documents extensions such as Print Edit WE for editing a page before printing. Use an extension only when you need to remove or rearrange specific elements; for a one-off conversion, the native print flow is simpler.
Microsoft Edge: print a clean page or a selection
Print the full page
- Open the page and choose Settings and more > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
- Choose the PDF destination exposed by the print dialog.
- Set orientation, scale, margins, paper size, color, backgrounds, headers, footers, and page range.
- Save the PDF and verify it.
Use Immersive Reader for a less cluttered result
When Edge offers the Immersive Reader icon in the address bar (or F9 on Windows), open it before printing. Edge’s clutter-free print option is designed to remove surrounding material such as ads and site navigation.
Print only selected content
Select the text or images you need, right-click the selection, and choose Print. This is useful for a quotation, table, or section rather than the entire page. If the normal preview does not expose the destination or controls you need, Edge can open the system print dialog.

Make the PDF clean and readable
Remove ads, menus, and sidebars
- Try Firefox’s simplified format.
- Use Edge Immersive Reader when it is available.
- For pages that still contain clutter, use a print-cleanup extension or remove elements in the browser’s print preview if that control is provided.
Do not assume that hiding an element on screen will hide it in the PDF: print styles can restore or remove content independently.
Prevent clipped text and images
- Switch between portrait and landscape.
- Reduce the scale slightly when a wide table or image runs beyond the paper edge.
- Adjust margins and paper size.
- Inspect every preview page, not just the first one.
Keep backgrounds
Charts, colored callouts, and hero images may disappear unless you enable Background graphics in Chrome or Backgrounds in Firefox (or the equivalent Edge setting). Background printing uses more ink and can make text harder to read, so enable it only when it carries meaning.
Save only the section you need
Use the print dialog’s page-range field to enter specific pages. Edge’s selected-content workflow is preferable when the section does not map neatly to whole pages.
Why the PDF does not match the web page
- Responsive layouts: the page may switch to a narrow, mobile-style layout when the print engine chooses a different width.
- Print CSS: sites can hide videos, navigation, advertisements, or interactive controls and can insert page-break rules.
- Lazy-loaded content: images or sections may not exist in the document until you scroll or interact with it. Let the page finish loading before printing.
- Authentication and personalization: a PDF contains what your current session can see, not necessarily what another visitor sees.
- Cross-origin or blocked resources: privacy settings, extensions, or a failed request can leave an image or font out of the PDF.
If fidelity is important, compare the saved PDF with the live page immediately after saving and record the page URL and date. A PDF is a snapshot, not a guarantee that future readers can follow every interactive link or reproduce dynamic data.

Common problems and fixes
The PDF is dominated by ads or navigation
Use Firefox simplified format or Edge Immersive Reader. If neither is available, use a print-cleanup extension or print only the article’s selected content.
Text or images are cut off
Return to preview, choose landscape for wide content, reduce scale, and change margins or paper size. Check later pages for tables that overflow even when the first page looks correct.
Colors or background images are missing
Enable background graphics/backgrounds in the print settings. If the color is decorative rather than informational, leaving it off produces a smaller, more readable file.
Only part of the article appears
Clear an accidental page range, wait for lazy content to load, and print again. For a deliberate excerpt, use the range control or Edge’s selected-content print command.

The saved file cannot be found
Check the browser’s download location and its recent downloads list. Chrome uses the default download folder unless you changed it.
The browser opens the PDF instead of downloading it
In Chrome, change the PDF-document preference to download PDFs. Otherwise use the print dialog’s Save control, which writes a local copy even when browser PDF viewing is enabled.
