You do not need a physical printer. The exact destination label and available controls can vary by browser version and system print options.
Convert a webpage to PDF in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Edge.
- Press Ctrl+P, or select Settings and more > Print.
- In the preview, choose the available PDF destination. If the browser opens the system print dialog, select a PDF option there if one is available.
- Set the pages, margins, scale, headers and footers, or background graphics as needed. Review the preview, then select Save and choose where to store the PDF. Microsoft documents these print controls and the Edge workflow at Print in Microsoft Edge.
Make a simpler text-focused PDF
On eligible websites, Edge’s Immersive Reader can reduce surrounding page clutter before you print. It is not available on every site; if you do not see the option, print the page normally. The Microsoft Edge print guide describes this approach and its availability limits.
Convert a webpage to PDF in Google Chrome
- Open the page in Chrome on your Windows computer.
- Press Ctrl+P to open print preview.
- In the destination selector, choose Save as PDF.
- Review the preview and any available layout settings, select Save, and choose a folder and filename.
Google’s instructions for printing from a computer document the Windows shortcut and the Save as PDF destination: Print from Chrome – Computer.
Check the PDF before relying on it
- Page breaks: Scan the preview for headings, tables, or paragraphs split awkwardly across pages.
- Scale and margins: Adjust these if text is clipped, too small, or leaves excessive blank space.
- Headers and footers: Turn them on or off according to whether you need items such as page numbers or the page URL.
- Background graphics: If the preview omits meaningful colored areas or images, check whether including background graphics improves the output. Microsoft notes that this setting can affect how the printed page looks.
- Page range: Choose only the pages you need when the preview shows a multi-page result.
Options differ between Edge, Chrome, and the system print dialog, so use the controls actually shown in your preview rather than assuming every setting appears in every version.

Fix common print problems
The preview is blank or will not load
Retry the print preview and restart Edge if necessary. Then try printing another website or online document. If another page works, the original site may be causing the problem, for example through its page styling. On sites where it is available, try Edge Immersive Reader before printing. The PDF is missing images or colored backgrounds
Check the preview and the background-graphics setting, then save a new copy. Webpages can print differently from how they appear on screen; if the image is still missing, the site may not include it in its print layout.

Adjust scale and margins, inspect page breaks, and confirm the selected page range. If the page remains cluttered and you are using Edge, check whether Immersive Reader is available for that website.

You cannot find a PDF destination
Look for Save as PDF in Chrome’s destination menu. In Edge, the exact destination can depend on the version and system print choices; if Edge opens the system dialog, inspect its available destinations. The documented workflows are browser print features, not a requirement to own a physical printer.

Can I save a webpage as a PDF without installing a PDF app?
Yes. Edge and Chrome provide browser print workflows that can save to PDF.

Can I save only part of a webpage?
Use the page-range controls in print preview when the page is paginated and those controls are available.
