The dependable way to convert a text document to JPG is a two-step process: first create a PDF that preserves the document’s layout, then export each PDF page as a JPEG image. A JPG is a picture of a rendered page, not an editable text file. Existing PDFs need only the second step; TXT, Word, and Google Docs files need the PDF step first.
What conversion actually produces
Converting text to JPG turns each rendered page into an image. You cannot edit the words as text inside the JPG, and a multi-page document normally becomes multiple image files—one JPEG per page. If you need selectable, searchable, or editable text, keep the original document or PDF as well as the images.
Do not confuse a page export with image extraction. A PDF may contain photographs, logos, or diagrams. Exporting pages creates a picture of the complete page; extracting images saves only those embedded pictures and omits the surrounding text.
Fastest general method: PDF to JPEG
- Create or open the PDF. For a TXT file, Acrobat lists Text (TXT) as an input that can be converted to PDF. In an office application, use its PDF or Save as PDF command. In Google Docs, download the document as PDF or print it to a PDF destination.
- Open the PDF in a PDF exporter. Adobe Acrobat’s current procedure is to choose Convert or Export a PDF, select an image format, and choose Convert to JPEG.
- Choose image settings. Select JPEG/JPG and adjust available quality or resolution controls for your use case. Higher resolution produces a larger file; aggressive compression produces smaller files but can make small type or thin lines look soft.
- Check the extraction option. Leave Export All Images unselected when you want a picture of every page. Adobe uses that option for extracting pictures contained in the PDF, not for converting whole pages.
- Save and inspect every page. A multi-page PDF can produce a separate JPEG for each page. Open the output files and verify page order, margins, headings, tables, and the final page.

Convert a plain TXT file to JPG
Using Acrobat
- Open Acrobat and choose its command to create a PDF from a file.
- Select the .txt document. Adobe’s Reader/Acrobat guidance lists TXT among supported PDF inputs; see Create, view, or download a file.
- Review the PDF’s font, line wrapping, margins, and page breaks. Plain text has little layout information, so the PDF creator’s defaults determine how it paginates.
- Export the PDF using the PDF-to-JPEG steps above, keeping Export All Images off for full-page pictures.
Why the PDF intermediate matters
A direct text-to-image conversion must invent page size, font, spacing, and wrapping. PDF gives you a stable rendered page to review before rasterization. If the text is confidential, use software and storage that meet your organization’s privacy requirements, and delete temporary PDFs or JPEGs when they are no longer needed.
Convert a Google Doc to JPG
Download as PDF, then export
- Open the document in Google Docs on a computer.
- Choose File > Download and select PDF, then save the downloaded file.
- For a large document, Google also documents File > Print, choosing Save as PDF as the destination, and saving the result.
- Open that PDF in an image exporter and choose JPEG for the page conversion.
Google’s help explains the download and print-to-PDF routes at Create, view, or download a file on a computer. The documented Google Docs options do not include a direct JPG download, so PDF is the practical handoff format.
Convert a Word or other office document
Use the office application’s PDF export or Save as PDF command, then export the resulting PDF pages to JPEG. The reviewed Microsoft guidance supports PDF operations in Word but does not establish a direct Word-to-JPG page-export workflow. Treat any third-party “Word to JPG” button as a convenience interface around rendering, and check its privacy, page limits, and output settings before uploading sensitive files.
Check pagination before making images
If a PDF is opened and reconstructed in Word, Microsoft warns that page correspondence can change. A heading, table, footnote, or paragraph may move to a different page. Review the PDF itself—not only the original DOCX—before exporting images. Microsoft’s PDF-editing guidance is at Edit a PDF.

Choose the right output settings

JPEG is a lossy format. It is usually adequate for pages containing photographs, but repeated re-saving can soften text and line art. Keep the PDF as your lossless, re-exportable master.
When a screenshot is the better approach
If the “text document” is actually a webpage, online article, or document viewer, a browser screenshot can be more convenient than downloading and reconstructing a file. Set the required viewport, wait for the page to finish loading, and capture the full page. Browser screenshots are not a substitute for a source PDF when exact pagination, selectable text, or archival fidelity matters.

The JPG contains only a logo or photograph
You probably enabled Export All Images. Run the PDF export again with that option unselected so the operation converts complete pages.

That is normal for a multi-page document: page export creates one image per page. If a recipient requires one file, assemble the images into a PDF or a contact sheet rather than pretending a single JPG can contain editable pages.

Text is cut off or wraps differently
Inspect the PDF before exporting. Recheck page size, margins, font substitution, and line spacing in the source application. If Word was used to reconstruct a PDF, review page breaks because Microsoft notes that correspondence can change.
The file is too large
Lower JPEG quality, reduce pixel dimensions, or export only the pages you need. Keep the original PDF so you can make a smaller derivative later without repeatedly recompressing the JPG.
The image looks blurry
Export at a higher resolution, avoid enlarging a small JPG, and compare the result with the PDF at 100% zoom. Tiny fonts and thin rules are especially sensitive to low resolution and JPEG compression.

Quality and file-management checklist
- Keep the original TXT, DOCX, or Google Doc and the intermediate PDF.
- Confirm the intended page size and orientation before rasterizing.
- Open every generated JPEG, especially the last page.
- Use predictable names such as
report-001.jpg,report-002.jpg, and so on. - Do not upload confidential documents to an online converter unless its handling terms meet your requirements.
- For accessibility, send the PDF or original text alongside images; JPG alone has no selectable text or document structure.
FAQ
Can I save a .txt file directly as .jpg by renaming the extension?
No. Renaming changes the filename suffix, not the file’s encoded contents. Render the text to a page first, preferably through PDF, then export the page as JPEG.
Is JPG the same as JPEG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG refer to the same image format; the three-letter spelling is common because older systems limited extensions to three characters.
Can one JPG contain a whole 20-page document?
Only as a tall, combined image assembled from separate page renders. Normal PDF-to-JPEG export creates one image per page, which is easier to view and share selectively.
Will the JPG retain searchable text?
No. The letters are pixels. Keep the PDF or source document when search, copy, screen-reader access, or editing is required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I convert a password-protected PDF to JPG?
You must first open it with the required password and have permission to export. If the owner has disabled copying or printing, the PDF application may block page export.
Why does my converter make a separate JPG for every page?
Page-based conversion treats each rendered page as an individual image. This preserves page boundaries and is the expected result for multi-page documents.
