This creates a PDF of the single page at that URL. For linked pages or a repeatable workflow, use Adobe Acrobat’s Web Page tool, Adobe PDF Services, or a screenshot/PDF API instead.
Choose the right conversion method
Your choice depends on whether you need one page, a group of linked pages, or an automated process.

Convert one link with a browser
- Open the complete URL. Wait until the page finishes loading. If content appears after scrolling, scroll through the page first so lazy-loaded images have a chance to render.
- Open Print. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Cmd+P on macOS. You can also use the browser menu and choose Print; wording differs between Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
- Select the PDF destination. Choose Save as PDF or the equivalent PDF option. On systems with a printer list, select the built-in PDF printer rather than a physical printer.
- Set the page options. Use portrait for narrow articles and landscape for wide tables. Change scale or margins when text is clipped. Select a page range if you do not need every printed page.
- Save and verify. Choose a filename and location, then open the PDF in a viewer. Check page breaks, images, selectable text, hyperlinks and the intended page range.
When browser printing produces a poor result
- Missing images: reload the page, wait for network activity to stop, and scroll through it before printing.
- Overlapping or clipped content: reduce print scale, switch orientation, or increase margins.
- Menus, cookie banners or chat boxes: close them before opening Print. A page’s print stylesheet may also hide or rearrange content.
- Blank or incomplete pages: disable extensions that alter the page, sign in if the content requires an account, and confirm the URL is accessible in a normal tab.
- Long pages split awkwardly: try the browser’s background-graphics option, a different scale, or Acrobat’s web conversion controls.
Use Adobe Acrobat for a site or linked pages
Acrobat’s current desktop workflow is Create > Web page. Enter the complete URL and select Create for a single page. To follow links, enable Capture multiple levels, choose the number of levels, or select Get entire site. You can restrict crawling to the same path or server so the PDF does not follow unrelated external links.

- Headers, footers, encoding, colors and background handling.
- Image conversion and link underlining.
- Expansion of scrollable blocks.
- Page size, orientation, margins and scaling.
Capturing several levels can create a very large document. Set a narrow path or a small level count first, then inspect the result before requesting an entire site.
Automate URL-to-PDF conversion
Use an API when a link must be converted on a schedule, in a publishing pipeline, or for many user-submitted URLs. Adobe PDF Services supports HTML-to-PDF automation; your application sends the URL or HTML and stores the returned PDF. Build in timeouts, logging, retries and an allowlist if users can submit URLs.
Automation requirements
- Wait for client-rendered content, fonts and images before capture.
- Authenticate to pages with headers, cookies or an authorization token when permitted.
- Define a maximum page count, file size and execution time.
- Record the source URL, capture time and conversion status with each file.
- Scan or quarantine files before distributing them to other users.

PDF quality, accessibility and permissions
A PDF cannot be more accessible than its source HTML. If the page has poor heading structure, missing alternative text or a table-based layout, conversion will not fix those defects. In Acrobat, enable PDF tags, inspect reading order and run the accessibility checks. Complex tables may require manual repairs in Acrobat Pro.
Before sharing or archiving, confirm that the PDF contains the intended headings, images, links and selectable text. Respect the website’s copyright, access controls, robots policies and terms when capturing or redistributing content. Do not use an automated converter to bypass a paywall or authentication boundary.
Troubleshooting common failures
The PDF is empty
Confirm the URL loads in a normal browser tab. A bot challenge, authentication wall, JavaScript error or server timeout can leave no printable content. Sign in where you have permission, wait for the page to finish rendering, and try again. For an API job, inspect the HTTP status and page-verdict headers.

The page is cut off
In Print preview, reduce scale, change orientation and adjust margins. For Acrobat, set page size and scaling in Web Page Conversion Settings. For automated capture, use PDF page ranges and explicit paper dimensions rather than relying on defaults.
Only the top of an infinite-scroll page appears
Browser printing may capture only content already rendered. Scroll to the bottom first, or use a converter that waits for network idle, a selector or a delay and supports full-page rendering.
Links are not clickable
Some print styles convert links to plain text. Try another browser, preserve link options in Acrobat, or use a PDF workflow that explicitly retains hyperlinks.

A site capture follows too many pages
In Acrobat, lower the capture level and restrict the crawl to the same path or server. In an API, submit only the URLs you intend to capture or use a bulk list rather than unrestricted crawling.
The automated request times out
Increase the client timeout within the provider’s limits, wait for a specific selector instead of an arbitrary long delay, block unnecessary resources, and retry transient server errors with backoff. Keep a hard maximum so one page cannot consume unlimited worker time.

- One-off work: browser Print to PDF has the least setup and no API credentials.
- Multi-page projects: Acrobat provides crawl boundaries and document-structure controls, but large captures need storage and review.
- Recurring jobs: an API is easier to schedule and monitor; cache stable URLs when permitted.
- Variable pages: expect different output when a site changes its HTML, print stylesheet, consent system or authentication flow.

- Open the source URL and confirm you have permission to capture it.
- Check that dynamic content, images and fonts finished loading.
- Choose the correct page range, orientation, paper size and scale.
- Inspect every page for clipping, blank sections and broken columns.
- Test headings, selectable text, links, bookmarks and reading order.
- Use a descriptive filename and retain the source URL and capture date.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a link without installing software?
Yes. A modern browser’s Print dialog can save a single accessible URL as a PDF without additional software.

Can one PDF contain an entire website?
Acrobat can capture multiple link levels or an entire site, but you should limit the path or server and review the resulting size. A single-page browser print does not crawl a website.
Why does my PDF look different from the webpage?
Print CSS, responsive breakpoints, blocked resources and page-break rules create a print layout that can differ from the interactive screen. Adjust print settings or use explicit conversion options.
Is a web PDF automatically accessible?
No. Accessibility depends heavily on the source HTML. Tagged structure, reading order and table semantics must be checked after conversion.
