To control what gets posted to Slack, change the Freshdesk or Salesforce integration’s event rules and destinations. To control whether Slack alerts you about messages already posted, change your personal Slack notification preferences. These are separate controls: a device-banner setting will not stop an integration from posting in a channel.
First identify which notification you need to change
Check where the alert appears and what triggered it. A Freshdesk ticket event, a Salesforce record event, and a regular Slack message notification can look similar but have different controls.
- A channel post is unwanted: adjust the source integration’s event filtering or destination.
- You want the post to remain, but not receive a personal alert: adjust your Slack notification preferences.
- Salesforce alerts have stopped: check the integration and account mapping before changing personal preferences.
Control Freshdesk notifications
Freshdesk offers two ways to route ticket activity to Slack: its latest Slack app and automation rules. Which one applies depends on the Freshdesk setup in your tenant. Freshdesk documentation distinguishes the latest app from experiences of customers who signed up before December 2025; automation documentation may describe an older configuration.

Use the latest Freshdesk Slack app
A Freshdesk admin installs the app and links the Freshdesk domain using an API key. In the app settings, map Freshdesk groups to Slack channels, then select ticket priorities to limit which tickets are sent. Freshdesk says public and private channels can be mapped; the user configuring the integration must belong to any private channel. See Freshdesk’s latest Slack app instructions for the applicable setup details.
Freshdesk notes that ticket updates in this app can take up to five minutes to appear in the respective channel. Allow for that delay before treating a missing update as an integration failure.
#1 Best Overall
Use Freshdesk automation rules
If the integration is driven by workflows, review Admin > Workflows > Automations, including the Ticket creation and Ticket updates rules. Check each rule’s criteria, selected Slack channel, and any custom message. Depending on the configuration, rules can post to channels or send direct messages to agents. Admins control whether direct messages and slash commands are available in the app settings. Freshdesk’s Slack integration guide describes these automation options.
If the Slack app is disabled or uninstalled, automation rules can remain visible even though their Push-to-Slack actions will no longer run. Remove or revise those actions when retiring the integration so the rules do not imply that notifications are still being delivered.
Control Salesforce notifications
Before changing settings, identify which Salesforce integration your workspace uses. Slack says its own Salesforce app is legacy and unsupported, and recommends Salesforce-built integrations. The old app’s instructions may still be useful for identifying a setup, but they should not be treated as the recommended current route.

Check the active Salesforce connection
For a Salesforce-connected workspace, verify that the connection is active and that the relevant Slack members are mapped to the correct Salesforce accounts. Slack notes that dependent features, including Salesforce notifications, may stop working when the connection is disconnected. See Slack’s Salesforce connection instructions.
Slack also documents custom alerts for Salesforce objects and records, with package-version requirements. Because applicability depends on the integration and package in use, ask your Salesforce administrator to verify the current package and setup before relying on older configuration steps. The connection guide covers the documented setup context.
Consider Sales Home notifications
Eligible workspaces and roles may have Salesforce-related notifications through Slack Sales Home. Members can create notifications, and administrators can create notifications and manage destinations or restrictions. Access depends on the workspace plan and assigned roles; some notification setup is desktop-only. Check current availability and permissions in your workspace. See Slack Sales Home guidance and the administrator guidance.
Recognize legacy Slack-built Salesforce alerts
Slack’s legacy app documentation describes three alert types: My Alerts for changes to records assigned to you, Channel Alerts for selected records or objects, and Bulk Alerts for changes to a selected record type. Slack explicitly says these instructions are for reference because the Slack-built app is unsupported. Use them to understand an existing setup, not as a default recommendation for a new integration. See Slack’s Salesforce app article.
Change your personal Slack alert settings
When the integration post should remain in Slack but one person does not want to be alerted about it, adjust that member’s preferences. Open profile picture > Preferences > Notifications. Review desktop and mobile delivery, the choice between Everything and Mentions and direct messages, notification schedules, keywords, and channel-specific exceptions. Slack’s notification settings guide explains these member-level controls.
These settings affect how Slack alerts an individual; they do not change the integration’s underlying event rules or remove a channel post. Freshdesk mobile-app notifications are separate again: agents can manage alerts for status changes, new responses, assignments, new tickets, and tagged notes in Freshdesk. See Freshdesk’s mobile push notification instructions.

The latest app’s group-to-channel mapping and priority selection and automation rules both route Freshdesk activity, but they are administered differently. Freshdesk does not establish one as universally preferable.
Quick Recap
| Control | Latest Freshdesk Slack app | Freshdesk automation rules |
|---|---|---|
| Filtering | Map groups to channels and select ticket priorities. | Set criteria for ticket creation or ticket updates. |
| Destination | Mapped Slack channel, public or private (private channel requires the configuring user’s membership). | Channel posts or agent direct messages, depending on rule and app configuration. |
| Administration | Freshdesk admin configures the app and group-channel mapping. | Freshdesk admin reviews workflow automations and their Slack actions. |
| Timing or lifecycle note | Freshdesk says ticket updates can take up to five minutes to appear. | Disabling or uninstalling the app does not automatically remove visible automation rules; Push-to-Slack actions will not run. |
Troubleshoot missing or noisy alerts
- Identify the source and destination. Determine whether the event came from Freshdesk, Salesforce, or a Slack message, and whether it appears in a channel, direct message, Slack Activity, or a device banner.
- For Freshdesk, inspect routing. Check group-to-channel mappings and priority selection in the latest app, or inspect the relevant creation/update automation criteria, channel, and Slack action. Allow up to five minutes for latest-app ticket updates.
- For Salesforce, check integration health. Confirm the active connection and member mapping. Avoid disconnecting it as a troubleshooting shortcut because dependent features may stop working.
- If only one person is affected, inspect their Slack preferences. Check delivery settings, the Everything versus Mentions and direct messages choice, schedules, keywords, and channel exceptions.
- If configuration appears correct, verify applicability. Confirm whether the workspace uses the latest Freshdesk app or an older automation setup, and identify the Salesforce integration generation, package version, plan, role, and administrator permissions as relevant.
