To contact U.S. representatives about AI policy, identify the officials who represent your location, use the contact method listed on each official’s website, and make one specific request tied to an AI issue. USAGov links to federal, state, territorial, and local officials; the House and Senate provide separate routes for contacting members of Congress.
Find the officials who represent you
Start with USAGov’s elected-official contact directory, which provides routes to federal, state, territorial, and local officials. Choose the level of government that can act on your concern: federal law or agencies point toward Congress, state law toward state officials, and a local service toward local government.
Find your U.S. House member
Enter your ZIP code in the official House Find Your Representative lookup. It identifies the current member and links to that member’s website, where you can find the office’s available contact options. The House says individual offices set their own email procedures and that there is no central public email list, so follow the member’s site rather than relying on an unverified address.
The lookup describes the current Congress as serving until January 2, 2027, unless a seat becomes vacant earlier. A winner of an election for the next Congress does not become a member until officially recognized when the new Congress begins in January. Check the current official listing instead of assuming an election result has already changed your representative.

Find your U.S. senators
Use the Senate’s senator contact directory to reach the senators from your state. The Senate directs public-policy comments to a constituent’s own senators and asks writers to include a return postal address. Its Capitol switchboard, (202) 224-3121, can connect callers to a requested Senate office.
Choose an official contact channel
Use the method the office lists; no source establishes that one channel is more effective than another. The options commonly include a web form or email, telephone, and postal mail.

- Web form or email: Convenient and routed according to the office’s instructions. Follow any limits or required fields on the official site.
- Telephone: Call the office directly using its published number. For a Senate office, the Capitol switchboard can connect you if needed.
- Postal mail: Use the mailing address published by the office. Include a return postal address, as Senate guidance requests.
House guidance distinguishes individual constituent messages from mass advocacy campaign messages. If you are writing in your own capacity, use the individual-contact route on your member’s website.
Make a clear, specific request about AI
Keep the message focused on one policy concern and one action you want the official to take. Identify yourself as a constituent, explain the issue’s effect on you or your community, then ask the official to support, oppose, investigate, or explain a specific action. This structure makes your request clear; it does not guarantee a response.

For a concrete policy angle, federal law identifies principles for AI use in government: lawful use, performance, accuracy and effectiveness, safety and security, transparency, and accountability. These principles can help you frame a question or request, but they are not a complete list of AI policy issues or a prescribed position on legislation. See the statutory text at 40 U.S.C. § 11301.
Adapt this message template
“I’m a constituent in [city or district]. I’m concerned about [specific AI use or policy issue] because [local or personal effect]. Will you support [specific action], and how do you plan to address [one concrete safeguard or accountability question]?”

Replace the brackets with details that apply to you. For example, rather than asking generally for “better AI rules,” identify the particular use or policy you mean and the safeguard or decision you want the office to address.

House contact options and processing procedures vary by member; the member’s website is the current source for those details. Senate guidance notes that senators may acknowledge messages from people outside their state but may not respond, so begin with your own senators. The official directories identify contact routes, but they do not establish an individual official’s current position on AI; check that official’s current statements or ask the office directly.
