If you also want Discord users’ commands to use their Twitch identity, each user must separately link their accounts with !linkdiscord. Connecting the bot to your server and linking a person’s accounts are two different setup steps.
What the two connections do
Connecting the Chatbot to a Discord server lets it post stream announcements, respond to configured commands, run mini-games, and post timers. Linking an individual’s Discord and Twitch accounts is for commands that rely on that person’s Twitch identity, such as points, permissions, cooldowns, or costs. A bot in the server does not automatically make every Twitch command available in Discord; commands must be configured for Discord.
Streamlabs lists a Twitch Bot connection as a prerequisite for connecting the desktop Chatbot to Discord. Follow the server setup first, then do the account-linking steps if you need Twitch-aware Discord commands. See Streamlabs’ Discord connection guide and Twitch and Discord linking guide.
Before you start
- Use Streamlabs’ desktop Chatbot and connect its Twitch Bot before starting the Discord setup.
- Have permission to add a bot to the Discord server you intend to use.
- Keep the bot token private. It is a credential; do not post it in a public channel or include it in an unredacted screenshot.
Connect Streamlabs Chatbot to your Discord server
- Connect the Twitch Bot. In Streamlabs Chatbot, complete the Twitch Bot connection before configuring Discord. Streamlabs identifies this as a prerequisite.
- Create a Discord application and bot. Sign in to Discord’s application/developer interface, create a new application, open its Bot area, and add a bot user. Interface labels may vary as Discord updates its developer tools.
- Copy the Client ID. Copy the application’s Client ID for the Chatbot connection.
- Start the server authorization from Chatbot. In Streamlabs Chatbot, open Connections → Discord Bot, enter the Client ID, and click Join Server. In the browser authorization flow, choose the intended server and authorize the application.
- Enter the bot token. Return to Connections → Discord Bot, reveal and copy the bot token, then paste it into the token field. Keep it confidential.
- Choose the bot’s Discord channel. Enter the channel name without the leading
#, then click Connect. Streamlabs says the connection should complete within seconds. - Link user accounts if needed. Continue with the separate
!linkdiscordprocedure below for users who need Twitch-linked Discord commands.
Link an individual’s Discord and Twitch accounts
This step is per user; inviting the bot to a server does not complete it. A user who needs commands tied to their Twitch account should:

- In Discord, message the bot with
!linkdiscord. - Copy the response text beginning with
/w. - Open the Twitch account named in Streamlabs’ linking guide, paste the response into Twitch chat without editing it, and send it as a whisper.
- Wait for the bot’s Discord message confirming that linking completed.
If a command works in Twitch chat but not Discord, ask the bot owner to enable or configure that command for Discord. Streamlabs documents the linking flow in its account-linking instructions.
Fix common connection problems
The Discord Bot option is missing
Confirm that you are using Streamlabs’ desktop Chatbot and check the installed version’s interface. Streamlabs notes that some Chatbot tabs can be hidden in certain platform contexts. Its FAQ and troubleshooting page covers the desktop product and its limitations.

The bot joined the server but does not answer a user
Check whether that user completed !linkdiscord if the command depends on Twitch identity. Also confirm the command is enabled or configured for Discord; server connection alone does not enable every Twitch command there.
The connection fails or the bot does not appear in the selected channel
Recheck that the Client ID and bot token belong to the intended Discord application, that the authorization flow selected the correct server, and that the channel name is entered without #. Return to Connections → Discord Bot and make sure you clicked Connect. Never share the token while seeking help.

The bot disappears after you close Streamlabs Chatbot
The desktop Chatbot must remain open and connected while it is expected to stay in chat. Closing the app stops that local desktop runtime.
Windows, Mac, Linux, and Cloudbot
Streamlabs’ desktop Chatbot is Windows-only. Streamlabs recommends Cloudbot for Linux or Mac, but Cloudbot is a separate cloud-based product; do not assume its setup or feature set is identical to the desktop Chatbot. See Streamlabs’ Cloudbot setup guide for its account and platform setup.
