To send an existing Dacast encoder live channel to a YouTube Live event, add YouTube as a destination in the channel’s Engagement → Simulcast settings, enter the stream key for the YouTube event, and save. Then start your encoder and verify the feed in both Dacast and YouTube. This forwards a live feed; it does not create the Dacast channel or YouTube event, and the documented setup does not guarantee uninterrupted or 24/7 delivery.
What you need before connecting Dacast to YouTube
- An eligible Dacast encoder live channel. Dacast’s Simulcast API documentation excludes HLS ingest channels and VOD Rebroadcast channels. See Dacast’s Simulcast documentation.
- Simulcast credits available in your Dacast account. Dacast says adding a destination requires credits; an attempt with no credits can return a 403 error.
- A YouTube Live event and its associated stream information from YouTube Studio. YouTube distinguishes the broadcast viewers watch from the stream carrying the audio and video; a broadcast is bound to one stream. See YouTube’s explanation of broadcasts and streams.
- Your encoder configured to send the source feed to Dacast.
Check channel eligibility and credits before the event. The exact controls and available account features can vary, so confirm the current options in your dashboard.
Add YouTube as a Dacast Simulcast destination
- Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the Live event and open its stream settings. Copy the stream key and use the ingestion information shown for this specific stream. Do not reuse sample credentials or guess an endpoint. YouTube documents the stream’s ingestion details in its LiveStreams reference.
- Open the Dacast channel. In the Dacast dashboard, select the encoder live channel you intend to send to YouTube.
- Open Simulcast. Go to the channel’s Engagement tab, find Simulcast, and select Connect. Choose YouTube as the destination.
- Enter the YouTube stream key. Paste the key from the YouTube event’s stream settings into the destination setup, then save. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to that stream.
- Recheck the Dacast ingest settings. Dacast warns that adding a destination can change the encoder’s Dacast ingest URL. Review the channel’s current encoder settings and update the encoder’s Dacast URL if needed before going live. See Dacast’s multi-destination setup guide.
Start the encoder and verify both destinations
- Start the encoder using the current Dacast ingest settings and the source feed you intend to broadcast.
- Open the Dacast preview or shared stream page and the YouTube event while the encoder is streaming.
- Confirm that the picture and sound appear at both destinations. If YouTube shows a preview or stream-health status, inspect it before you make the event public or rely on it for viewers.
Dacast recommends checking the feed at Dacast and YouTube during a test stream. That confirms the configured path is working at that moment; the setup documentation does not specify a maximum continuous runtime or promise uninterrupted delivery. The dashboard procedure is also described in Dacast’s simulcasting guide.
RTMP, RTMPS, and YouTube ingestion details
Dacast Simulcast forwards an existing encoder channel to an RTMP destination; its API example uses a YouTube RTMPS destination. Use the protocol and endpoint provided for the actual stream and supported by the Dacast destination configuration—RTMP and RTMPS are not interchangeable in every setup.

YouTube defines RTMPS as RTMP sent over an SSL connection and specifies port 443 for RTMPS connections. Its RTMPS ingestion guidance explains the connection requirements. YouTube’s ingestion protocol comparison describes RTMP and RTMPS as supporting normal, low, or ultra-low latency, with encryption provided by RTMPS; HLS and DASH have different codec and latency characteristics. Choose based on the protocol your workflow supports and the latency and codec requirements of the stream.
Troubleshoot a YouTube destination that is missing or offline
YouTube does not show an incoming feed
- Check the stream key. Confirm it came from the correct YouTube event and was pasted into the saved Dacast destination without an error. If the event uses a different stream, use that stream’s current key and ingestion information.
- Check the Dacast channel type. Simulcast destinations require an eligible encoder live channel; HLS ingest and VOD Rebroadcast channels are excluded in Dacast’s API documentation.
- Check available credits. Confirm that the Dacast account has simulcast credits. Dacast documents a 403 response when a destination is added without sufficient credits.
- Check the encoder’s Dacast URL. After adding a destination, compare the encoder configuration with the channel’s current ingest settings and correct the URL if it changed.
- Check whether the encoder is actually sending. Confirm that the encoder is running and that the Dacast preview receives the feed. If Dacast itself has no picture or sound, resolve the encoder-to-Dacast path before diagnosing the YouTube leg.
Dacast receives video but YouTube does not
Recheck the saved YouTube destination and event-specific stream key, then confirm the correct event is open in YouTube Studio. Review the protocol and endpoint information supplied for that stream; YouTube’s RTMPS requirements include a valid RTMPS URL and port 443. The documented checks cover common setup issues, not every possible account, network, encoder, or YouTube-side error.

The feed works, then stops
Check whether the encoder is still sending to Dacast and whether the YouTube destination remains connected. Dacast and YouTube setup guidance describes configuration and verification, not an automatic recovery guarantee or a guaranteed continuous runtime. If the encoder stops or a destination disconnects, inspect the relevant service’s status and restart or reconfigure the affected path as appropriate.
