You can connect a laptop to a TV wirelessly if both devices support the same casting method, such as Miracast or Google Cast. One important distinction: wireless receivers often still plug into the TV’s HDMI port. If you mean the TV has no HDMI input at all, the options covered here do not establish a general solution; check the TV’s inputs and the receiver’s requirements first.
Choose a connection method that matches your devices

For any wireless option, check both ends: the laptop must support the relevant protocol, and the TV must have a compatible receiver or input. Also decide whether you need the whole desktop mirrored or only a video or browser tab.
Connect a Windows laptop with Miracast
Miracast can mirror a compatible Windows laptop to a TV that supports Miracast. Microsoft recommends pressing Windows key + K in Windows 11 to check for and connect to wireless displays. The TV may need to be put into its screen-mirroring or Miracast mode first.
- On the TV, open its screen-mirroring, Screen Share, or Miracast feature. The exact name and menu path depend on the TV model.
- On the laptop, press Windows key + K.
- Select the TV or wireless display from the list and follow any prompt shown on the TV.
If no display appears, Microsoft recommends checking that Wi-Fi is on, confirming Miracast is supported and enabled on the TV, and updating the laptop’s drivers and the receiver’s firmware. Restarting the devices or removing and adding the wireless display again may also help. See Microsoft’s wireless-display troubleshooting steps.

If the TV does not support Miracast
A Miracast receiver can add wireless-display support when the laptop itself supports Miracast. It does not eliminate the TV-side connection: Microsoft’s Wireless Display Adapter plugs into the TV’s HDMI port and uses USB for power. Microsoft says that a display without Miracast needs an adapter that plugs into HDMI; check the TV’s available inputs and the adapter’s requirements before choosing one. Cast from Chrome with Google Cast
Chrome can send a browser tab or the entire computer screen to Chromecast, Google TV Streamer, Chromecast Ultra, or a TV with Google Cast. The computer and receiver need to be on the same Wi-Fi network with a strong connection, and Google recommends using an updated Chrome browser.

- Connect the laptop and the Google Cast receiver or TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open Chrome and select More (the three-dot menu), then Cast.
- Choose the destination device. Use the Cast options to select a browser tab or the full screen, where available.
Google notes that when you cast the computer screen, audio may continue playing on the computer. If you need the sound to come through the TV, casting a Chrome tab may be more suitable. See Google Chrome Help’s casting instructions.
Use a USB-C or Thunderbolt adapter when a cable is acceptable
If the laptop has no HDMI socket but you can use a cable, a USB-C or Thunderbolt video adapter may provide a wired connection. The port must support video output: Apple specifies DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt 3 or 4 support for the relevant adapter. Verify the laptop’s port capabilities before buying an adapter; a USB-C connector alone does not guarantee video output. This is a wired fallback, not a wireless connection. What to check if the TV is not found
- For Miracast: confirm the Windows laptop supports Miracast, Wi-Fi is enabled, and the TV’s receiver mode is on. Check for driver and receiver firmware updates if discovery still fails.
- For Google Cast: confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, the connection is strong, and Chrome is up to date.
- For any receiver: check its required TV input and power connection. Wireless describes the connection from laptop to receiver; it does not necessarily mean the receiver connects to the TV without a cable.
- For TV-specific sharing: names and steps vary by model. For example, LG’s Windows 11 instructions use the TV’s Screen Share feature and Windows display settings. See LG’s Screen Share instructions.
Mac compatibility depends on the receiver
The sources cited here establish Chrome screen casting on Mac, Windows, and Chromebook, but do not establish a complete, model-specific Mac AirPlay setup. Before choosing AirPlay, verify that the particular Mac and TV or receiver are compatible.
