This guide covers apps hosted on GoDaddy Node.js Hosting—not every Node.js app whose domain happens to be registered with GoDaddy. For GoDaddy Node.js Hosting, the sequence is to deploy and publish the app, attach a domain you own, route its DNS to GoDaddy hosting, and verify the connection. GoDaddy says TLS certificates are provisioned automatically for this hosting product. If your app runs on another provider, use that provider’s domain-binding and HTTPS instructions instead.
What you need before connecting the domain
- A Node.js app deployed to GoDaddy Node.js Hosting.
- A GoDaddy web hosting subscription attached to the app before publishing it.
- A domain you own. Its DNS must route to GoDaddy hosting.
GoDaddy’s deployment guide describes a workflow with preview and publish environments. A preview URL is not proof that the production app has been published.
Prepare and deploy the Node.js app
Meet GoDaddy Node.js Hosting’s app requirements
GoDaddy’s Node.js Hosting help article says the project needs a root-level package.json with a working production start script. The app should listen on the PORT environment variable, declare runtime dependencies, and keep secrets in environment variables rather than hard-coding them. GoDaddy says the platform runs npm install and then npm start.
For the upload described in that help article, the ZIP file must be no larger than 100 MB and should not include node_modules. These are GoDaddy Node.js Hosting requirements, not general rules for every Node.js host.

Deploy, attach hosting, and publish
Follow GoDaddy’s Node.js deployment workflow to upload and deploy the app. Attach a web hosting subscription to the app before publishing it. Check the plan and account in GoDaddy for current eligibility; the documentation cited here does not establish a specific price or guarantee that every plan qualifies.
Wait for deployment and publication to complete, then check the app’s publish environment and production URL. GoDaddy’s developer workflow and Hosting API overview describe asynchronous operations and status checks; when using the API, poll each returned operation until it succeeds or fails.

Attach your domain and route DNS to GoDaddy
After deploying the app, attach a domain you own using GoDaddy’s domain attachment instructions. Attachment starts DNS verification. GoDaddy says a domain registered at GoDaddy is often routed automatically. If the domain is registered elsewhere—or its DNS is hosted by another provider—you may need to change nameservers or DNS records at that provider so the domain points to GoDaddy hosting.
Use the DNS values shown by the current GoDaddy workflow for your app. Do not copy a generic A or CNAME record from another host: the correct target depends on the hosting setup.

Wait for verification, then check HTTPS
Domain attachment is not necessarily immediate. GoDaddy’s API reference says the request returns 202 Accepted; its domain attachment guidance says DNS propagation can take a few minutes, without promising a fixed maximum. If using the API, check the domain record until its verification status is ACTIVE or FAILED.
GoDaddy says TLS certificates are provisioned automatically for Node.js Hosting in its product help article. After the domain is connected and provisioning has completed, open the site with https:// and confirm the browser reports a valid secure connection. The documentation does not specify an exact certificate-provisioning time. This automatic-certificate statement applies to GoDaddy Node.js Hosting; it should not be assumed for other GoDaddy products or external hosts.

Troubleshoot a domain or HTTPS issue
The app is not live
- Confirm the app was published, not only deployed to preview.
- Check that the publish environment is up and a web hosting subscription is attached.
- Use the production publish URL to verify the live deployment.
The domain does not resolve or verify
- Confirm you own the domain and attached it to the intended app.
- Check which provider hosts its authoritative DNS, then make any required changes there.
- Use the app-specific DNS values supplied by GoDaddy; do not guess a record target.
- Allow time for DNS to resolve, then check the domain’s verification status again. GoDaddy says propagation can take a few minutes but does not give a fixed maximum in the reviewed instructions.
HTTPS is not available
First confirm that the app is on GoDaddy Node.js Hosting and that the domain has resolved and verified. GoDaddy’s automatic TLS statement is specific to that product. If HTTPS is still absent after those checks and provisioning has had time to complete, consult current support guidance for your account and product rather than treating a separately purchased certificate as the default fix.

If you attach the domain through the API, GoDaddy requires a deployed app, a domain you own, and a token with the hosting.domain:write scope. Its API reference documents these common responses:
