The correct menu depends on which Street Fighter II release you are playing. On Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting for SNES, open OPTION, use CONFIGURE to remap punch and kick buttons, and use DIFFICULTY to select a star level. In Hyper Street Fighter II in Capcom Fighting Collection, remapping is under Options > System. Nintendo Switch Online's SNES software controls the picture with 4:3, Pixel Perfect, or CRT Filter; Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix offers 4:3 and 16:9.
Identify the exact port before following button-by-button instructions. The original cartridge, a collection wrapper, and a downloadable widescreen release expose different settings even when the game title looks almost identical.
Identify your Street Fighter II version first
Street Fighter II has been released in several versions with different option screens. Check the title screen, software name in your console library, or the label on the cartridge. The instructions below cover the versions for which the menu behavior is documented.

The table is a routing guide, not a universal menu map. If your screen does not contain the named item, return to the version check rather than assuming a button combination from another port.

Configure controls on SNES Street Fighter II' Turbo
Open the configuration screen
- Start Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting and wait for the title screen.
- Select OPTION from the title screen.
- Choose CONFIGURE. The screen lists the punch and kick actions that can be assigned.
- Highlight the punch or kick action you want to change.
- Press the controller button you want to assign to that action. Repeat for each action that needs a different button.
- Leave Option Mode and play a short round to verify every input before starting a tournament or long session.
The remapper is action-based: highlight the listed punch or kick, then press the desired physical button. It is not a profile system, so write down an arrangement you like if several people share the console.
Use a Capcom Fighter Power Stick
The SNES manual gives the Capcom Fighter Power Stick a faster setup path. In CONFIGURE, highlight SET and press any button on the stick. The game automatically configures the controller. If the automatic assignment is not comfortable, use the individual punch and kick entries afterward to change only the actions that feel misplaced.
Choose a practical six-button layout
Street Fighter II has three punch strengths and three kick strengths. A six-button arcade-style controller lets your thumb or fingers reach those six attacks without chorded inputs. Start with the controller's default Type A arrangement when one is available, then move only the buttons that cause missed inputs. Keep all three punches adjacent and all three kicks adjacent; grouping by attack type is easier to remember than alternating randomly.

For a two-player setup, configure Player 1 while seated in the position you will actually use, then have Player 2 test the second controller. Different pads can place the face buttons in different physical locations even when the game labels are identical.
Change difficulty with the star scale
SNES Turbo procedure
- From the title screen, open OPTION.
- Select DIFFICULTY.
- Move left or right across the star scale until the desired number of stars is highlighted.
- Exit Option Mode and start a match. The new setting applies to computer-controlled opponents.
The SNES manual states: "The more stars you highlight, the more difficult the opponents will be to defeat." The stars describe opponent difficulty, not your controller sensitivity, character damage, or the speed of human-versus-human play.
Super Street Fighter II options
The Super Street Fighter II manual also describes DIFFICULTY as a star setting and places it in Option Mode alongside KEY CONFIG and SUPER MODE. Use the manual or on-screen labels for your particular console version because the available choices and wording can vary between ports. The cited manuals do not establish one universal number of star levels for every release, so do not assume that a scale from one cartridge must match another.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Pick a setting for the situation
- Learning a character: choose fewer highlighted stars so you have time to practice motion inputs, ranges, and anti-air responses.
- Practicing execution under pressure: raise the stars after your basic controls are reliable.
- Two human players: remember that the difficulty setting concerns computer opponents; it does not make the other person stronger.
Remap Hyper Street Fighter II in Capcom Fighting Collection
- Launch Hyper Street Fighter II from Capcom Fighting Collection.
- Open the collection's Options menu.
- Select System.
- Choose the control entry for the connected device and assign directional movement plus the light, medium, and heavy punch and kick inputs.
- Save or confirm the assignment, then return to the game and test all six attacks in a practice or versus match.
Capcom places remapping at Options > System, rather than in the SNES game's OPTION > CONFIGURE screen. If you open the in-game pause menu and cannot find a control editor, return to the collection-level System menu.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Configure World Warrior or Capcom Town controls
The official World Warrior/Capcom Town release supports a keyboard, an external controller, and on-screen controls. Open its controller-settings area and configure Player 1 or Player 2 separately. Select the player, choose each movement or attack input, and press the corresponding key or controller button; on-screen controls can be used when no physical device is connected.
Browser focus can steal keyboard input. Click the game area before testing, and make sure a second player is assigned to the intended device rather than sharing Player 1's key assignments. Because this release is presented through a web or platform wrapper, its display scaling is not the same as the SNES Nintendo Classics settings described below.

Make the SNES version fit a modern TV
Nintendo Switch Online SNES settings
- Open the SNES Nintendo Classics software in Nintendo Switch Online.
- Open Settings.
- Choose one of the three display modes: 4:3, Pixel Perfect, or CRT Filter.
- Return to the game and check the image at your normal viewing distance. You can reopen Settings and switch modes without changing the game's control or difficulty options.
- 4:3: Nintendo describes this as the original SNES presentation with a slight horizontal stretch. It fills more width while preserving the intended television-style proportions.
- Pixel Perfect: Displays square pixels. The picture may occupy less of a widescreen television, but individual pixel shapes remain consistent.
- CRT Filter: Adds scan-line styling to approximate the appearance of a CRT display.
These choices belong to the Nintendo Switch Online wrapper. They do not rewrite the cartridge's Option Mode and do not alter the game's rules, hit detection, or difficulty.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix provides its own 4:3 and 16:9 gameplay display choices. In 4:3, the playfield keeps the original aspect ratio. In 16:9, the image is zoomed to fill a widescreen display and the camera pans when necessary to keep the action visible. Capcom's FAQ specifies that "The 16:9 mode does not alter gameplay at all." The change is framing, not character speed, move properties, stages, or match rules.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.

Why the original SNES cartridge has no modern scaling menu
The SNES Turbo manual documents gameplay settings such as difficulty, timer, and button configuration. It does not document a modern television aspect-ratio or filter control. If you are playing the original cartridge through hardware that offers video scaling, use that hardware's own options; do not expect an additional 4:3 or Pixel Perfect item inside the cartridge's OPTION menu.

Troubleshoot common configuration problems
The buttons did not change
- Confirm that you are in the correct release. SNES Turbo uses OPTION > CONFIGURE; Capcom Fighting Collection uses Options > System.
- In the SNES menu, highlight the action itself before pressing the replacement button. Pressing a button while the highlight is on another row changes that other action.
- After assigning all six attacks, test light, medium, and heavy punches and kicks individually. A partial remap can feel like a faulty controller when one action is still on its old button.
The game became harder after changing controls
Controls and difficulty are separate settings. Reopen OPTION > DIFFICULTY on SNES Turbo and inspect the highlighted stars. More stars mean tougher computer opponents; remapping buttons does not raise the star level.
The picture looks stretched
- On Nintendo Switch Online, open the SNES software's Settings and select Pixel Perfect for square pixels or 4:3 for the original television-style shape.
- On HD Remix, switch from 16:9 to 4:3 if you prefer the original framing. In 16:9, horizontal camera movement is expected behavior rather than a rendering error.
- On an original cartridge, look for scaling controls on the console, adapter, television, or capture device. The cartridge's Option Mode is not documented as a modern display scaler.
A second player cannot use the intended device
For Capcom Town, open the controller-settings area and configure Player 2 explicitly. For a two-pad SNES setup, verify that each controller is connected to the expected port before entering Configure. On a browser release, click the game area so keyboard focus is not held by another page element.

A reliable setup checklist
- Read the full title and identify the port: SNES Turbo, Super Street Fighter II, Hyper Street Fighter II in the collection, Capcom Town, or HD Remix.
- Configure movement and all six attack inputs in the menu belonging to that port.
- Play a short test match and confirm each punch and kick strength separately.
- Set computer difficulty with the star control only after the buttons feel correct.
- Choose the display mode at the platform or release level: SNES Nintendo Classics has 4:3, Pixel Perfect, and CRT Filter; HD Remix has 4:3 and 16:9.
- Have every human player test the controller from the seat and device they will use during the actual session.
Once those checks pass, the settings remain conceptually simple: controls belong to the game or collection menu, difficulty is a star setting in the documented SNES versions, and modern aspect-ratio choices belong to the platform wrapper or HD release rather than the original cartridge.
