Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo make OBS retry a dropped YouTube connection, open Settings → Advanced, enable Automatically Reconnect, and set a positive Retry Delay and Maximum Retries. OBS doubles the wait after each retry, so the delay you enter is the starting interval, not a fixed schedule. These settings help OBS recover from a lost connection; they do not guarantee uninterrupted playback for viewers.
Turn on automatic reconnect in OBS
- In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced.
- Find Automatically Reconnect and enable it.
- Set Retry Delay and Maximum Retries to positive values.
- Select Apply or OK to save the settings.
The English OBS interface uses the labels Retry Delay and Maximum Retries. The OBS Project documents the delay as the initial wait; it doubles on each retry to avoid overloading services. A maximum retry count of zero disables reconnecting for supported outputs. OBS Studio output reference · OBS Studio English interface strings
Choose retry values for your situation
The cited OBS and YouTube documentation does not recommend one ideal delay or retry count for everyone. Choose values according to how long you expect a brief interruption to last and how long OBS should keep trying before you can intervene. Because each retry waits longer than the previous one, the total retry period can grow quickly.
- Brief, occasional interruptions: Use a positive starting delay and enough retries to let OBS attempt recovery while you are still available to check the stream.
- Longer outages or unattended streams: Consider how long you are willing to leave OBS retrying without intervention. More retries do not fix an ongoing network or bitrate problem.
- Manual control preferred: Do not set the retry count to zero if you want automatic reconnect; zero disables it for supported outputs.
These are decision criteria, not a source-backed numeric preset. Do not treat any retry count as a promised recovery time.

Understand OBS reconnect versus YouTube stream settings
OBS reconnect controls govern what the encoder does after its output connection is lost. YouTube’s stream key and stream URL establish where the encoder sends its feed and allow YouTube to accept it. YouTube also has separate auto-start and auto-stop controls, which determine whether a stream can be started or stopped from the encoder. They are not OBS reconnect settings. Test the setup before relying on it
- Run a test stream using representative audio and movement, rather than testing with a static or silent feed if the actual stream will contain activity.
- Choose a stream quality your internet connection can sustain reliably.
- During the test and the live event, review YouTube’s stream health and any messages it displays.
YouTube recommends testing with representative content and monitoring stream health and messages. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions

Troubleshoot repeated disconnections
- OBS retries but keeps dropping: Check whether the connection can sustain the configured bitrate. OBS identifies dropped frames as a sign that the remote connection is unstable or that the bitrate cannot be maintained.
- Streaming over unreliable Wi-Fi: OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. Ethernet can help address a weak wireless link, but it is not a guarantee of stability.
- YouTube does not start or stop as expected: Check YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop controls separately from OBS’s retry settings.
- The interruption lasts beyond a brief fluctuation: Investigate network stability and bitrate rather than only increasing the retry count. Reconnect attempts are recovery behavior, not a fix for a sustained connection problem.
