To configure a controller in KytyPS5, connect the DualSense by USB or Bluetooth before launching a game, open that game’s configuration dialog, and select Controller. From there you can scale vibration from 0–100%, adjust speaker volume, choose lightbar behavior, assign keyboard input to a player, and bind individual controls. Save the configuration, then verify buttons, sticks and rumble in an active game menu.

What KytyPS5’s controller settings control

KytyPS5 exposes controller options in the Controller section of its configuration dialog. The settings affect how the emulator applies input and feedback; they do not create a new rumble effect or change a game’s own control scheme.

Setting Available values Documented default What it does
DualSense lightbar Custom color or Default Default Uses a fixed color you choose, or lets the game control the lightbar.
Vibration intensity 0–100% 100% Scales vibration requested by the game over USB and Bluetooth.
Speaker volume 0–100% 50% Sets the DualSense speaker level. The upper end can add up to 6 dB of software gain.
Keyboard player Available player slots Selection-dependent Chooses which player receives keyboard input. Connected gamepads occupy the remaining slots in connection order.

The same input mapping is used by every player. The Keyboard player selector determines who receives keyboard events; it is not a separate keyboard layout for each player.

Before you change anything

Use a supported connection

Connect the DualSense with a USB cable or pair it over Bluetooth before starting the game. KytyPS5’s setup guidance recommends confirming that the operating system sees the device as a gamepad and that a button produces a response in the game menu.

  • Experience varying levels of force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers
  • Chat online through the built-in microphone and connect a headset directly through the 3.5mm jack
  • Switch voice capture on and off using the dedicated mute button
  • Play on more devices using the USB Type-C cable or Bluetooth to connect easily to Windows PC and Mac computers, Android and iOS mobile phones as well as your PlayStation 5
  • For the most predictable first setup, start with USB. It avoids Bluetooth pairing problems and makes it easier to determine whether the emulator and operating system recognize the controller.
  • Bluetooth can provide the same basic controls, but lightbar color changes may take several seconds to appear.
  • If you are using a different gamepad, ordinary buttons and rumble may work, but DualSense-specific speaker, haptic and adaptive-trigger behavior depends on the device and the available haptics backend.

Make sure the build includes platform support

On Linux, the project warns that a build made without SDL audio or udev development packages may lack sound support and gamepad hotplug support. If a controller is invisible until launch or never appears, install the required development packages and rebuild, or use a build that was compiled with those features.

Configure vibration, speaker and the lightbar

  1. Connect the controller. Plug in the DualSense or complete Bluetooth pairing, then confirm that the operating system exposes it as a gamepad.
  2. Open the game or library configuration. From KytyPS5’s game/library configuration area, open the controller or input settings dialog.
  3. Select Controller. This section contains the DualSense lightbar, vibration, speaker and keyboard-player controls.
  4. Set Vibration intensity. Drag the slider to the desired percentage. Set it to 0% to suppress rumble, 100% to preserve the full strength requested by the game, or an intermediate value for gentler feedback.
  5. Set Speaker volume. Adjust the speaker slider independently of vibration. The documented 50% position is the previous default; at 100%, KytyPS5 can apply as much as 6 dB of additional software gain.
  6. Choose lightbar behavior. Select a custom color when you want a fixed LED color, or choose Default to return control to the game. On Bluetooth, wait several seconds before deciding that a color change failed.
  7. Save the configuration and test. Enter a game menu and check a face button, both sticks, rumble and, where applicable, speaker output.

How the vibration slider is applied

KytyPS5 keeps the rumble values requested by the game. Changing Vibration intensity causes the emulator to reapply that cached request using the new scale. In practical terms, a 40% setting makes a requested effect roughly 40% of its configured strength; it does not replace the game’s pattern with a constant 40% motor signal.

The implementation sends DualSense haptic vibration when its haptics backend is available. Trigger-effect strengths are scaled through the same setting family, so reducing vibration intensity can also reduce supported adaptive-trigger effects.

Speaker volume is a separate control

The speaker slider does not alter rumble. KytyPS5 calculates speaker output from a volume table and the global volume value. The upper half of the slider provides software gain, reaching up to 6 dB at 100%; this can make output louder but does not turn an unsupported controller into a DualSense speaker device.

Assign keyboard input to the correct player

Use Keyboard player when you want the host keyboard to control a particular player slot. KytyPS5 assigns connected gamepads to the remaining players in connection order. That ordering explains why adding or reconnecting a controller can move a gamepad to a different slot.

  1. Open the same Controller configuration section.
  2. Find Keyboard player and select the intended player number.
  3. Disconnect and reconnect gamepads in the desired order if you need predictable slot assignment.
  4. Save, enter the game and confirm that keyboard actions affect the expected character or menu cursor.

All players use the same input mapping. If two players need different physical controls, bind the appropriate host devices to the required DualSense controls and verify the resulting player assignment rather than expecting a separate per-player mapping profile.

Map buttons, sticks and triggers

Open KytyPS5’s input-mapping screen after selecting the controller configuration. Bind host keyboard, mouse or gamepad inputs to the DualSense sticks, triggers, face buttons and other controls.

  1. Select the DualSense control you want to configure, such as a face button, stick direction or trigger.
  2. Choose the host input that should produce that control.
  3. Repeat for the remaining controls, including both stick axes and any buttons the game requires.
  4. Use Clear only when you want to remove the selected binding. It removes that binding; it does not erase the entire controller configuration.
  5. Save and test in a game menu before beginning a longer session.

Test analog controls separately from buttons. A stick can appear to work in a menu while having a wrong axis, reversed direction or an unsuitable dead zone in gameplay. Likewise, a trigger binding should be checked at partial travel if the game uses analog acceleration or braking.

USB versus Bluetooth: what changes

Area USB Bluetooth
Initial setup Connect the cable before launch and verify gamepad detection. Pair before launch and verify that the operating system exposes a gamepad.
Vibration and haptics Uses the available DualSense haptics backend and the configured intensity scale. Uses the available DualSense haptics backend and the configured intensity scale; actual effects depend on backend and device support.
Lightbar updates Changes should be easier to assess during setup. The UI warns that color updates may take several seconds.
Hotplug on Linux Requires a build with the needed SDL and udev support for reliable detection. Requires the same platform support, plus a successful Bluetooth pairing.
Best diagnostic use Recommended first connection when you are isolating detection or mapping problems. Useful after the controller works over USB and you want a wireless connection.

The table describes configuration behavior, not a promise that every Bluetooth adapter or operating-system driver exposes every DualSense feature. Trigger effects in particular require a DualSense-class device and a connection path supported by the haptics backend.

Troubleshoot detection and input problems

No controller appears in KytyPS5

  1. Close the game and reconnect or pair the controller.
  2. Start KytyPS5 only after the controller is visible to the operating system as a gamepad.
  3. Try USB if you were using Bluetooth. This separates emulator configuration from pairing and adapter issues.
  4. On Linux, check whether the KytyPS5 build includes SDL audio and udev development support. Missing packages at build time can leave gamepad hotplug unsupported.
  5. Open the input screen and confirm that a button or stick produces an event before attempting a full remap.

Buttons are detected but rumble is too strong or too weak

Change Vibration intensity, save, and trigger the effect again. The slider scales the game’s requested motor values, so an effect that is absent in the game will remain absent at 100%. A setting of 0% intentionally suppresses rumble.

Trigger effects do not respond

Adaptive-trigger effects are not guaranteed for generic gamepads. Use a DualSense-class device and a USB or Bluetooth path supported by KytyPS5’s haptics backend. A controller may still provide ordinary rumble even when trigger effects are unavailable.

The keyboard controls the wrong player

Return to Controller, change Keyboard player, save, and test again. Remember that gamepads fill the remaining player slots in connection order; reconnecting one can change the assignment.

The lightbar color seems stuck over Bluetooth

Wait several seconds after applying the color. The configuration UI explicitly warns that Bluetooth DualSense color updates can be delayed. If it never changes, switch temporarily to Default, test in-game control, then try a custom color again over USB.

The game is frozen and the controller appears dead

First determine whether emulation is still running. A frozen game can look like an input failure because no menu or character responds. If the emulator is no longer progressing, restart the game and test the controller in a menu before changing mappings.

  1. Connect or pair the controller before launching the game.
  2. Confirm operating-system gamepad detection.
  3. Open KytyPS5’s configuration dialog and select Controller.
  4. Set vibration to a known value, such as 50%, and leave speaker volume at a known value while testing.
  5. Choose Default lightbar behavior first, then test a custom color only after basic input works.
  6. Set Keyboard player if a keyboard is part of the setup.
  7. Check every mapped face button, both stick axes, both triggers and any menu buttons.
  8. Open a game menu and confirm navigation, then trigger a known rumble event.
  9. Test speaker output separately, because speaker volume and vibration are independent.
  10. Change one setting at a time and retest, so you can identify which change affected the result.

Common configuration mistakes

  • Launching first, connecting later: the emulator may not receive the device or hotplug event, especially on a build without the required Linux support.
  • Treating 100% as a new effect: 100% preserves the strength requested by the game; it cannot add rumble to a title that requests none.
  • Expecting speaker volume to alter vibration: these are separate controls with separate implementation paths.
  • Clearing the wrong item: Clear removes the selected binding only. It is not a reset-all command.
  • Assuming every gamepad has adaptive triggers: ordinary rumble and DualSense trigger effects have different hardware and backend requirements.
  • Changing several variables at once: altering connection type, player assignment and mappings together makes diagnosis much harder.

Recommended baseline for a first setup

For a new DualSense configuration, connect by USB, leave lightbar behavior at Default, keep vibration at 100% until you confirm that the game produces feedback, and leave speaker volume at its documented 50% default. Verify all controls in a menu, then lower vibration or raise speaker volume to suit your preference. Once the USB setup works, pair over Bluetooth and retest lightbar timing, rumble and player assignment independently.

This approach separates three different questions: whether KytyPS5 detects the controller, whether the input mapping is correct, and whether the selected connection and backend support the feedback features you want.
