To run a 24/7 YouTube stream through Airtel Xstream, connect the FFmpeg computer to the router—preferably by Ethernet—measure the upload speed from that computer, and configure FFmpeg to send a YouTube-compatible RTMPS stream at a bitrate your connection can sustain continuously. Airtel’s advertised plan speed is not a guarantee of your actual upload rate. YouTube recommends constant-bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; test the full setup and monitor YouTube’s stream health before relying on it.
What you need before configuring FFmpeg
- An Airtel Xstream connection and router, with the computer that will run FFmpeg connected to it.
- A source video that you have the right to stream, and an FFmpeg build that supports the codecs you plan to use.
- A YouTube Live event, its ingestion endpoint, and a stream key. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- A measured, stable upload rate with enough headroom for your chosen video and audio bitrate.
YouTube accepts RTMP or RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video encoding; it supports up to 60 fps. For the straightforward FFmpeg example below, use H.264 video and AAC audio. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate recommendations.
Connect the computer to the Airtel router
Prefer Ethernet where practical
Connect the streaming computer to a LAN port on the Airtel router with an Ethernet cable. A wired link removes the computer-to-router Wi-Fi connection as one source of variation; it does not guarantee that the broadband connection itself will remain stable. Wi-Fi is also an option, but signal strength, interference, and other wireless traffic can affect consistency. Airtel documents router access over either a LAN or wireless connection in its router-settings guidance.
A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is an optional choice, not a required streaming specification. Check the computer’s network port or adapter, the router’s available LAN ports, and the cable length you need.

Router settings are usually not part of outbound streaming setup
Ordinary publishing to YouTube is an outbound connection from FFmpeg to YouTube over RTMPS. The cited setup guidance does not establish that Airtel subscribers need bridge mode, a public or static IP address, or inbound port forwarding for this purpose. Don’t change those settings speculatively; investigate the actual error first.
If you need to access the router’s management page, Airtel gives 192.168.1.1 as a default address and advises checking the router label for its address and credentials. The interface and login details can vary by router model and configuration, so don’t assume a universal username or password. Follow Airtel’s model-specific router access guidance.

Measure upload speed and choose a stream profile
Test the actual streaming connection
- Connect the computer to the router using the connection you intend to stream with.
- Pause downloads, cloud backups, and other heavy network use on the connection.
- Run upload-speed tests from that computer, and repeat them at different times. A single result is not proof of sustained performance.
- Set the stream bitrate comfortably below the upload rate that the connection sustains in practice. Leave room for audio, network variation, and other household traffic.
- If YouTube reports stream-health warnings or FFmpeg shows dropped frames, retest and lower the profile if needed.
Airtel’s India broadband page advertises plan tiers from ₹499 at up to 40 Mbps to ₹3,999 at up to 1 Gbps; the listed prices are exclusive of taxes and plan availability and terms depend on location. These are advertised plan figures, not a promise of a particular sustained upload bitrate for an individual subscriber. Check the current offer and terms for your address on Airtel’s broadband plans page, then base your encoder setting on measurement rather than the plan’s headline speed.
Use YouTube’s figures as starting points, not guarantees
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations include the following video bitrates. Pick the row that matches both your resolution and frame rate, then reduce the profile if your measured upload is variable. These figures are recommendations for the video stream, not a guarantee that an Airtel connection can sustain them.

| Resolution and frame rate | YouTube H.264 recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
For a long-running stream, a lower resolution and bitrate that remain stable are usually more useful than a higher-quality profile that repeatedly struggles. The right choice depends on the source’s detail and motion, the upload path’s stability, and the computer’s ability to encode in real time. YouTube’s encoder settings page provides further format and bitrate guidance.
Create the YouTube event and configure FFmpeg
- Create or select a YouTube Live event. In YouTube’s live control room, prepare the event and obtain the ingestion endpoint and stream key. Use RTMPS when the encoder and endpoint support it, as it is YouTube’s documented secure option. Keep the key private.
- Set the profile to match your measured connection. Use H.264 video, CBR-style target settings, and a two-second GOP/keyframe interval. At 30 fps,
-g 60sets a 60-frame GOP, or two seconds. Choose a video bitrate below the sustained capacity you measured; YouTube’s resolution-specific recommendations are not an Airtel upload guarantee. - Adapt the command to your input and event. Replace the input filename, endpoint, and key. Check that the file has the audio and frame rate you expect and that your FFmpeg build supports
libx264. This is an illustrative command pattern, not a tested Airtel configuration:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -tune zerolatency
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv 'rtmps://YOUTUBE_INGEST_ENDPOINT/STREAM_KEY'
The 8 Mbps video setting is an example for 720p30, which is within YouTube’s listed H.264 recommendation; it is not automatically safe for your connection. Use the exact RTMPS endpoint and key format shown for your YouTube event. FFmpeg documents RTMPS and related protocols in its protocol reference.

-re reads the file at its native rate, and -stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely. The example assumes a video file with audio and targets 30 fps. Adapt the input, output, resolution, frame rate, encoding preset, and bitrates to your media and computer. If the source has no audio, adjust the audio handling rather than assuming the example will work unchanged; confirm the resulting stream behaves as intended.
Test the stream and supervise it for continuous operation
Verify before leaving it unattended
- Start the stream and confirm that YouTube receives the correct event and displays the expected video and audio.
- Test with representative motion and sound, not just a static opening frame. Check YouTube’s stream-health messages and FFmpeg’s output for dropped frames, connection errors, or encoding problems.
- Let the test run long enough to observe whether the upload path and computer remain stable. YouTube advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the event; this does not guarantee 24/7 uptime.
- For unattended operation, run FFmpeg under an operating-system process supervisor that logs failures and can restart the process. Also monitor source-file availability, disk space if recording, router state, and YouTube health.
A process supervisor can restart FFmpeg after a process failure, but it cannot restore an Airtel outage, repair a missing or damaged source, or fix a YouTube-side problem. A restart policy is one part of operating the stream, not a substitute for monitoring its upstream dependencies.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg cannot connect to the publishing endpoint | Endpoint or key formatting, event readiness, network reachability, or FFmpeg protocol support | Copy the RTMPS endpoint and key from the correct YouTube event; check FFmpeg’s error output and protocol support. If the normal outbound connection still fails, investigate that specific error and ask Airtel for router- or account-specific guidance. |
| YouTube reports a bitrate or stream-health problem, or FFmpeg drops frames | Upload variation, competing network traffic, Wi-Fi instability, or an overloaded encoder | Repeat the upload test from the streaming computer, reduce the video bitrate or resolution, pause competing traffic, and use Ethernet if practical. Check CPU load and FFmpeg’s log as well as YouTube’s health status. |
| Video arrives but audio is missing or wrong | Input audio track, stream mapping, or audio encoding settings | Inspect the input’s audio tracks and confirm the command’s audio settings match the file. Test the actual output in YouTube before leaving it running. |
| The stream stops after a process or source failure | FFmpeg exited, the file became unavailable, or the router or ISP connection failed | Read the supervisor and FFmpeg logs, check that the source file and router are available, then restart only after addressing the cause. A process restart cannot repair an ISP outage. |
Bridge mode and port forwarding are not default fixes for an outbound YouTube publishing failure. Change router settings only when the observed error and model-specific guidance point to a particular setting.
