Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To send a video loop from Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube, create or open a YouTube stream, copy its stream URL and key into Streamlabs’ custom-ingest settings (or connect your YouTube account), then start the encoder and check YouTube’s preview before publishing. The key connects Streamlabs to YouTube; it does not make a video repeat. Set up the local file loop separately in the current Streamlabs Desktop interface, since its exact control names and restart behavior are not confirmed here.
Before you begin
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
- Install and open Streamlabs Desktop on the computer that will run the stream. Have the video file you intend to play available locally.
- For a scheduled broadcast, create the event in YouTube Studio before configuring Streamlabs. YouTube recommends preparing an encoder stream in advance and checking the Live Control Room preview before going live.
Menu names and placement can change between software versions. The steps below follow the documented Streamlabs custom-ingest path; if your current build labels a setting differently, use its current stream settings rather than assuming an old menu name.
Create or open a YouTube stream and get its credentials
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live.
- Open the Stream tab. Create a new stream, or select the scheduled stream you want Streamlabs to feed.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the stream settings. YouTube may load a returning creator’s previous settings and key.
The stream URL identifies the ingest destination; the key authorizes the encoder to send the feed. YouTube Help describes them this way: “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key like a password: do not show it in a recording or share it in a public post. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s Live Control Room and replace the saved value in Streamlabs. Only channel owners or managers can reset a stream key. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
Connect Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube
Option 1: Use Streamlabs’ YouTube connection
Connect or log in to YouTube through Streamlabs Desktop, then use Go Live and select the YouTube event if prompted. This is the straightforward route when you want Streamlabs’ supported YouTube integration and are not required to enter an ingest URL manually. Streamlabs’ going-live troubleshooting guidance covers its YouTube connection flow.

Option 2: Enter the URL and key with custom ingest
- In Streamlabs Desktop, open Settings > Stream.
- Select Stream to Custom Ingest, then choose Custom Streaming Server.
- Paste the YouTube stream URL into URL and the YouTube stream key into Stream Key.
- Save the settings.
These labels reflect Streamlabs’ documented custom-ingest flow; wording or placement may differ in a later build. Refer to Streamlabs’ custom-ingest instructions if the controls have moved. Custom ingest may not expose every Streamlabs feature, including side-dock chat and alerts or widgets. You may also need to edit the title or description directly in YouTube Studio.
Make the video repeat, then test the feed
Entering the URL and key only configures where Streamlabs sends its output. It does not configure a local video file to repeat. Add the file using the current local media source controls in Streamlabs Desktop, and confirm in the current interface that the source loops and behaves as intended if the scene changes. Do not confuse this with Streamlabs Media Share: that feature is an audience-requested video widget, not a documented local-file looping control. Streamlabs’ Media Sharing guide explains that separate feature.

- For a scheduled stream, select Go live in YouTube only when the preview is ready. For an unscheduled stream, follow the Live Control Room’s current publishing flow.
- Watch YouTube’s stream health while transmitting, and run a test stream ahead of an important event. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend preparing in advance, checking the preview and monitoring health.
Choose encoder settings for a stable YouTube feed
Use YouTube’s current recommendations as a starting point, not a guarantee that your upload connection can sustain the chosen quality. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension of RTMP; supported video codecs include H.264, H.265 and AV1. Its published guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 fps, and a 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. See YouTube’s encoder settings for other combinations and updates.
| Example YouTube H.264 recommendation | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommendations, not measured results or a promise of uninterrupted playback. Choose a bitrate your upload connection can reliably sustain, accounting for other traffic on the same connection. If YouTube reports stream-health problems, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again rather than assuming a higher setting is always better.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
YouTube does not receive a signal
- Check the destination details: confirm the URL and key in Streamlabs match the stream selected in YouTube Studio. If you reset the key, replace the old one in Streamlabs.
- Check the connection route: ensure you have either completed the YouTube account connection or saved the custom-ingest URL and key; do not assume one route configured the other.
- Check eligibility and restrictions: confirm the channel meets YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Check the encoder state: make sure Streamlabs is actually transmitting, then allow the Live Control Room time to show a preview.
The feed arrives but the video does not repeat
The stream key is not a loop setting. Recheck the local video source’s current controls in Streamlabs Desktop and test whether playback continues or restarts after a scene change. The official material cited here does not establish exact current checkbox labels or restart behavior, so do not rely on an assumed control name.
The stream is unstable or YouTube reports poor health
Compare your output settings with YouTube’s encoder guidance, then reduce bitrate or resolution if your upload connection cannot sustain them. Keep the keyframe interval at YouTube’s recommended 2 seconds and within its 4-second maximum. Check stream health during a test transmission before the event.
