To combine two rings in Stardew Valley, use the Forge or a Mini-Forge, place both eligible rings in it, and pay 20 Cinder Shards. The result is one ring carrying both rings’ effects, which frees an equipment slot. You cannot combine duplicate copies of the same ring or add a third ring to an already combined ring.
Where to find a Forge
The Forge is on floor 10 of the Volcano Dungeon. You can also use a crafted Mini-Forge after unlocking Combat Mastery; it works the same way for combining rings. See the Stardew Valley Wiki Forge page for the Forge’s location and mechanics.

How to combine two rings
- Bring two different rings you want to combine to the Forge or Mini-Forge.
- Place both rings in the Forge interface.
- Spend 20 Cinder Shards to complete the combination. The output is one ring with both original effects.
Cinder Shards are found from sources including Cinder Shard nodes, monsters, and chests in the Volcano Dungeon. Other listed sources include a Stingray Fish Pond with at least seven fish and Skull Cavern treasure rooms after unlocking the Volcano Shortcut. See the Cinder Shard reference for resource details.
Combination rules and limits
- No identical ring copies: The Forge will not combine two copies of the same ring.
- Different rings may share an effect: Rings with different names can be combined even if they provide an overlapping effect; the wiki gives Glow Ring and Glowstone Ring as an example.
- Two rings per combination: A combined ring cannot be combined again, so one ring cannot hold effects from three or more rings.
- Unforging reverses the combination: You can split a combined ring back into its original rings for free. The Forge returns only some of the Cinder Shards spent, not the full 20.
Choosing which rings to combine
Rings provide passive benefits, and you can equip two at a time. Combining a pair preserves both effects in one equipment slot, leaving the other slot available for another ring. Consider the benefits you actually use—such as light, magnetism, or combat help—and whether the effects stack. There is no universally best pair for every play style.
