To permanently close Freecharge, send an email from the address registered to your account to care@freecharge.com. Include your registered mobile number, request permanent deletion, identify every saved card, bank account, UPI handle or other payment detail to be removed, and ask for written confirmation. Freecharge says it will delete personal data after receiving the request except information it must retain under law or industry standards, so historical transaction records may remain for up to ten years.
What to do first
Account closure is a support-assisted request rather than a documented self-service switch. Prepare the request before sending it so support can identify the correct account and address each payment method you no longer want associated with it.
Use the registered email address
Freecharge’s Help Center specifically instructs customers to write from the email address registered to the account. Sending from another address can make it difficult for support to connect the request to your account. If you no longer control that mailbox, explain that situation in your message and ask support what verification they require; do not assume an unregistered address will be accepted.

- The mobile number registered with Freecharge.
- The registered email address from which you will send the request.
- A list of saved cards, including the last four digits if you have them.
- Any saved bank accounts or UPI handles.
- Any other payment details you want removed.
Do not send complete card numbers, CVV values, passwords, one-time passwords or UPI PINs by email. The last four digits are enough to help describe a card; support should not need secret authentication data in the message.

Check for wallet funds and pending matters
If your Freecharge wallet has money in it, ask how the balance will be handled before closure. The published wallet FAQ confirms that the wallet can be closed by writing to care@freecharge.com, but it does not publish a universal refund timeline in the closure instructions. Mention the balance and request the applicable procedure rather than assuming it will be transferred or refunded automatically.
Save any receipts, invoices or transaction references you may need later. Once closure is completed, Freecharge says you will not be able to retrieve personal information or transaction records through the old account.
Step-by-step: send the closure request
- Open the mailbox registered to Freecharge. Start a new message from that address, not from a secondary or work account.
- Use a precise subject. A subject such as “Request to close Freecharge account and remove saved payment details” tells support that you are requesting both actions.
- Identify the account. State the registered mobile number. You may also state the registered email address in the body so the request is unambiguous.
- Request permanent closure. Clearly ask Freecharge to permanently close and delete the account, subject to information it must retain under applicable law or regulation.
- List payment details to remove. Name each saved card, bank account, UPI handle and any other stored payment detail. Use descriptions such as “Visa card ending 1234” rather than complete numbers.
- Ask for written confirmation. Request confirmation that the account is closed, that the listed payment details were removed where legally possible, and that support identifies any data retained and the required retention period.
- Keep the sent message. Retain the email and any reply as your record of the request. Do not send repeated messages with sensitive information if one clear request is already open.

Subject: Request to close Freecharge account and remove saved payment details
I am writing from my registered email address to request permanent closure of my Freecharge account.
Registered mobile number: [number]
Please remove my saved cards, bank accounts, UPI handles and other saved payment details associated with this account, subject to any retention required by law. The payment details are:
- Card ending [last four digits]
- Bank account ending [last four digits or bank name]
- UPI handle: [handle]
- Other detail: [description]
If my wallet has a remaining balance, please explain how it will be handled before closure. Please confirm in writing when the account is closed, which payment details were removed, and what information must be retained and for how long.
Regards,
[Name]Replace the bracketed fields before sending. Keep placeholders only while drafting; the final email should contain your actual registered mobile number and accurate descriptions of the payment methods.

How Freecharge describes deletion
Freecharge’s Terms and Conditions state that, after receiving an account-deletion request, it will delete data and immediately stop collecting, storing and using personal information and other data, except where applicable laws, regulations or industry standards require otherwise. The practical result is that closure ends normal account use, but it is not a promise that every historical record is erased immediately.
Records that may remain
The terms say transaction-related details may be retained for up to ten years to meet requirements connected with the Reserve Bank of India, the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and prepaid payment instrument rules. The ten-year period applies to records covered by those obligations; it does not mean every item in your profile will be kept for ten years. Ask support to identify the categories retained for your account and the applicable period.
Access you lose after closure
After deletion, Freecharge says you cannot sign in with the old credentials, perform operations that require account access, retrieve personal information or transaction records, or use Freecharge services. Download or otherwise preserve information you legitimately need before sending the request, because the old login will no longer provide access after closure.

Registering again later
If you register again with the same mobile number or email address, Freecharge says it will treat you as a new customer. A new registration should not be expected to restore the closed account, its history or its previous settings.

Removing a saved card or bank account without closing the account
Freecharge documentation identifies Saved Cards as a payment method, but the official pages reviewed do not publish a current, separate step-by-step control for deleting one saved card or bank account while leaving the account open. Because that control is not documented, do not rely on an app uninstall, a phone-wallet change or deleting a card from your device to remove server-side records held by Freecharge.
If you want to keep using Freecharge but remove a payment method, email care@freecharge.com from the registered address. Explain that you are not asking to close the account, identify only the saved cards, bank accounts or UPI handles to be removed, and request written confirmation of what was deleted. Support can then tell you whether the requested removal is possible and whether any record must remain for legal or transaction purposes.

Use careful wording for a partial-removal request
Subject: Remove specific saved payment details from my Freecharge account
I am writing from my registered email address. Please keep my Freecharge account open, but remove the following saved payment details:
- [description and last four digits]
- [bank account or UPI handle]
My registered mobile number is [number]. Please confirm in writing which details were removed and identify anything that must remain for legal or transaction-record purposes.A partial-removal request and a deletion request have different consequences. State the desired outcome in the first sentence so support does not interpret a request to remove one card as permission to close the entire account.

Wallet closure and remaining balance
The Minimum KYC+ FAQ also directs users to care@freecharge.com to close a wallet account. Wallet closure is therefore handled through the same support channel rather than a published instant toggle.

The published closure material does not establish one refund time frame that applies to every customer, so support’s written response is the authoritative instruction for your case.

What not to assume
- Uninstalling the app is not account deletion. Removing the application from a phone does not constitute the email request described by Freecharge.
- Removing a card from a device wallet is not server-side deletion. A phone-wallet change affects that device or wallet; it does not prove that Freecharge deleted its own saved-payment record.
- Closing the account does not guarantee immediate destruction of every transaction record. The terms expressly allow retention when law, regulation or industry standards require it.
- A new registration is not restoration. Reusing the same mobile number or email creates a new-customer relationship according to Freecharge’s terms.
- Do not send secrets by email. Freecharge’s published instruction asks for a message from the registered address; it does not require full card numbers, CVVs, passwords, one-time passwords or UPI PINs in that message.
If support does not resolve the request
Check the original message
Confirm that the email was sent from the registered address, contains the registered mobile number and clearly says whether you want full closure or only selected payment details removed. A vague request can produce an incomplete response.
Send one focused follow-up
Reply in the same email thread, quote the original subject and ask for the specific confirmation still missing: closure status, removal status or the categories of information retained. Avoid changing the requested outcome in the follow-up unless you explicitly explain the change.
Use the published helpline
Freecharge’s contact page lists +91 97735 79100 for customer support, Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM. Call during those listed hours if you need to ask whether your email was received or how to handle a wallet balance. Do not disclose a one-time password, UPI PIN or complete card security code to someone who calls you unexpectedly; use the contact details you obtained from the official Freecharge page.

Keep an evidence trail
Retain the sent email, replies and any case or reference number. If support confirms that some information must remain, keep that explanation with your records so you know why a historical entry may still exist after the account is closed.
