Safari’s cache and other website data can be cleared from Apple’s built-in settings. Choose the route that matches your goal: clear history and website data together, remove website data but keep history, or target individual sites on a Mac. Clearing cookies and site data can sign you out or change how a site works.
Choose what you want to clear
| Your goal | Use this control | What it affects |
|---|---|---|
| Clear history and website data together on iPhone | Settings > Apps > Safari > Clear History and Website Data | History and website data, for a timeframe you choose. |
| Clear cookies and website data but keep history on iPhone | Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data | Website data, without using the combined history-clearing control. |
| Remove data for selected websites or all websites on Mac | Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data | Only the sites you select, or all listed sites. |
| Clear history on Mac | History > Clear History | Browsing history for a selected timeframe; iCloud may sync the removal to your other Apple devices. |
Apple’s labels and screen layouts can vary by software version. If a label differs, look for Safari’s History, Privacy, or Website Data controls.

Clear Safari cache and history on iPhone
- Open Settings > Apps > Safari.
- Tap Clear History and Website Data.
- Choose the timeframe you want to clear.
- Tap Clear History to confirm.
This clears history and website data together. Apple says the action does not change AutoFill information. If the clear control is gray, there may be no data to remove, or Screen Time web-content restrictions may be affecting it. See Apple’s iPhone instructions for deleting Safari history, cache, and cookies.
Clear cookies and website data on iPhone without clearing history
- Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data.
- Tap Remove All Website Data.
- Tap Remove Now to confirm.
This is the better choice if you want to retain browsing history. Website data can be used for tracking and to save login information for faster browsing; removing it may mean signing in again or losing saved site preferences. Apple documents this route in its Safari data instructions for iPhone.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Clear Safari data on iPad
- Open Safari and go to its History controls.
- Tap More, then Clear.
- Choose the timeframe to clear and confirm with Clear History.
Apple’s current iPad procedure clears visited-site history and recent searches, cookies, and permissions previously granted to websites. It does not delete histories kept independently by websites or histories in other apps. Follow Apple’s iPad cache and cookie instructions if your screen labels differ.
Remove website data on Mac
Remove data for selected sites
- Open Safari and choose Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data.
- Select one or more websites.
- Choose Remove.
Remove data for every listed site
- Open Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data.
- Choose Remove All and confirm.
Removing site data can reduce tracking, but may sign you out or change website behavior; Apple notes that effects may extend to other apps. If only one site is misbehaving, removing that site’s data is more targeted than removing everything. See Apple’s Mac instructions for clearing cache and cookies.

Clear Safari browsing history on Mac
- In Safari, choose History > Clear History.
- Choose how far back to clear.
- Confirm the action.
If Safari is set up with iCloud on your Mac and other Apple devices, clearing history removes it from those devices too. Safari’s history removal includes visited pages and recent searches; it clears the download list but does not delete downloaded files. It also does not erase browsing histories that websites keep independently. Apple explains these effects in its Mac guide to clearing history.
If a page still will not load
Clearing website data is one troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix. For an iPhone or iPad, Apple also recommends checking the network, trying another network, restarting the device, reviewing VPN settings, and checking that JavaScript is enabled. If the issue persists on one site, check whether Private Relay is involved or contact the website developer. Use Apple’s Safari loading troubleshooting steps for iPhone and iPad for the current sequence.

Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is to capture a website image rather than troubleshoot Safari itself, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF through a single API request. Its clean-shot options accept cookie and consent banners as a visitor and remove 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses include page-verdict and billing headers. It also has an MCP server for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
One cURL example, using the documented API parameters:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
For parameter details and other options, see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation. Free use includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo and start with 1,000 free screenshots a month.
