For routine smudges, use a clean, soft microfiber cloth. If the lenses need a deeper clean, wash them with neutral soap and room-temperature water, rinse away the residue, and dry them with a soft, clean cloth. Avoid paper towels, tissues, clothing, abrasive materials, solvents, and alcohol.
Clean Ray-Ban lenses in five steps
- Rinse off loose grit. If the lenses are dusty or gritty, rinse them with room-temperature water before wiping so you do not drag debris across the surface. This is a practical precaution when following Ray-Ban’s wash instructions.
- Wash with neutral soap and room-temperature water. Ray-Ban recommends this for a deeper clean in its Care Tips Leaflet.
- Rinse away the soap. Make sure no residue remains on the lenses.
- Dry thoroughly. Use a soft, clean cloth, preferably microfiber.
- For light smudges, wipe with clean microfiber. Ray-Ban’s care page recommends a special soft microfibre cloth and/or neutral cleaner, and says to use dedicated spray for lenses: Ray-Ban product-care guidance.
Choose the cleaning method for the dirt

Materials and products to avoid
- Paper towels, tissues, shirts, and other abrasive materials: Ray-Ban warns these can alter lens-filter properties. Its Care Tips Leaflet specifically says to use the provided cleaning cloth and avoid those materials.
- Dirty cloths: Debris caught in a used cloth can be rubbed across the lenses. Start with a clean cloth.
- Solvents and alcohol: Ray-Ban’s manufacturer information note advises against using them to clean sunglasses: manufacturer information.
- Unverified cleaners: Ray-Ban mentions dedicated spray and neutral cleaner, but that does not establish compatibility for every third-party formula. Avoid products containing solvents or alcohol.
Why lens coatings matter
Do not assume every Ray-Ban lens has the same coatings. Ray-Ban says some lenses have an anti-reflective coating and describes a smudge-resistant treatment for specified lens types. Follow the care instructions for your particular pair rather than treating a coating claim as universal: Ray-Ban lens information.
Choosing a cleaning cloth or spray
A soft microfiber glasses-cleaning cloth is the most direct choice for routine care. Ray-Ban’s official listing for its Cleaning Cloth, model ARB0002CK, describes specially treated microfiber intended to clean lenses without scratching; that is the manufacturer’s product claim, not an independent test result: Ray-Ban Cleaning Cloth listing. A lens spray is optional; choose a neutral product and check its ingredients, avoiding solvents and alcohol.
Check special-product instructions
These are general instructions for Ray-Ban sunglasses. Do not assume they cover every special model. Smart glasses and products with electronics may have separate handling limits, so check the instructions supplied for that model before cleaning.
