Unplug the charger, then gently wipe the back of the Gear S3 and the dock’s charging surface with a clean, soft, dry cloth. Make sure both surfaces are dry and free of debris before reconnecting the watch. If it still will not charge, check the dock, placement, and power connection; cleaning cannot fix a damaged charger, battery, or watch.
Clean the Gear S3 and dock safely
- Disconnect the charger. Remove the watch from the dock and unplug the dock from its power adapter before cleaning.
- Wipe both charging surfaces. Use a clean, soft, dry cloth on the back of the watch and the dock’s charging surface. Samsung says these surfaces should be free of sweat, liquid, and dust. Its Hong Kong guidance is specifically for products in that region; Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide also recommends a soft, dry cloth for a dirty watch back or dock. - Check that everything is dry and clear. Look for remaining dust or other material before reconnecting power. Samsung warns that foreign material on wearable charging terminals may damage them during charging.
- Reconnect and position the watch. Use a charging accessory designed for the Gear S3 and place the watch centered on its dock, with nothing obstructing the connection. Samsung lists the Gear S3 as Qi-wireless-charging compatible, but says the charger should be designed for the specific watch model. Use an approved charging accessory and an approved Samsung wall adapter, as Samsung advises.
Check the dock, cable, and charging indicators
Confirm the dock is the right model
Samsung identifies the Gear S3 Wireless Charging Dock as model EP-YO760. Regional SKU suffixes can differ, so check the model identification and Gear S3 compatibility when assessing a replacement. Samsung UK Gear S3 dock model information
Inspect the power setup and dock
- Check that the dock cable is firmly connected to the dock and adapter, and that the adapter is connected to power.
- Look for liquid damage, cracks or lifted casing, and broken or bent parts. Do not use a visibly damaged dock; seek service or a correctly compatible replacement.
- If the watch shows a charging error or the dock’s LED flashes red, remove the watch and reposition it correctly on the dock.
Allow time for charging
Samsung’s US troubleshooting guide recommends leaving the watch on the charger for at least one hour. Actual charging time varies with the charger and the watch’s state. If no charging indicator appears, press the watch’s Home/Power key once, as Samsung recommends.
If cleaning does not solve the problem
If the Gear S3 still will not charge after cleaning, checking placement, and confirming the power connection, the cause may be the dock, battery, or watch rather than dirt on the charging surfaces. Contact Samsung support or service for diagnosis. If replacing the dock, verify that it is identified for the Gear S3—Samsung’s listed model is EP-YO760—rather than relying on a general claim that a charger works with Samsung watches.
