Then check the model’s manual: whether a shaver or trimmer can be rinsed—and whether its blades need oil—depends on the device. Brush away loose hair where the manufacturer allows it, rinse only parts identified as washable, and let wet parts air-dry before reassembly.
Before you clean: check the model and make it safe
Find the model number and consult its user manual before removing a head, guard or blade set. Instructions for one brand or model do not establish that another tool is washable or needs lubrication.
- Switch off the appliance and unplug it or disconnect it from charging power. Philips specifically says to disconnect a shaver from the outlet before cleaning it.
- Remove heads, guards or other parts only as the manual directs.
- Check the manual and any symbols on the appliance to see which parts, if any, can be rinsed.
Philips says a shaver marked with a crossed-out tap symbol should not be cleaned with water. For a dry shaver, remove loose debris without rinsing. Waterproof Philips shavers may be rinsed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Clean an electric shaver
Once the tool is disconnected, remove the head or other parts only if the manual permits it. Brush out loose hair with the supplied cleaning brush where appropriate. Rinse only parts that the manufacturer identifies as washable, and follow its instructions for cleaning, drying and putting them back together.

Braun’s guidance is brand-specific: it says almost every Braun shaver can be rinsed under hot running water, and that a little standard liquid soap can improve cleaning. Braun also recommends occasional cutter-block oiling. Do not apply those instructions to a different brand or model without checking its manual.
A cleaning station is another model-dependent option. Braun says some shavers include a compatible SmartCare Cleaning Center that cleans, dries and recharges the device; it is not a universal accessory for electric shavers.

Clean a beard trimmer or hair clipper
For Wahl clipper blade sets, the manufacturer recommends brushing away hair after every use. Clean and oil the blades as directed, run the appliance briefly to distribute the oil, then wipe away excess. Keep liquid away from the motor and body: Wahl cautions not to immerse the appliance and not to store it in a wet or moist environment.
For other brands, use the supplied brush and rinse only parts the maker specifically identifies as washable. Do not assume a removable blade or guard is safe to rinse just because it can be detached.

Dry the tool and apply oil only when specified
Let rinsed parts air-dry before using the appliance again. Follow the manual’s instructions for disassembly, drying and reassembly. For a clipper blade set that calls for oil, apply the specified blade oil sparingly and wipe away excess; avoid getting liquid into the body or motor.
Wahl’s FAQ gives approximate oiling examples of once a month for consumer clippers and once a day for professional products. These are Wahl’s recommendations, not a schedule for every clipper; the FAQ also advises oiling only as needed and cautions against over-oiling.
