For white leather Nike Air Force 1s, clean by hand with a soft brush or cloth and mild, localized methods—do not put the shoes in the washing machine. First check the care label and identify the material: Nike gives different advice for leather and suede.
What you’ll need
- A clean, soft toothbrush or cloth.
- For a Nike-listed spot-cleaning mixture: baking soda, white vinegar and water.
- Optional alternatives for leather: white non-gel toothpaste, micellar water, a household cleaning eraser or a store-bought leather cleaner.
- For a grass stain, isopropyl alcohol and white vinegar.

How to clean white leather Air Force 1s
1. Check the label and remove loose dirt
Read the shoe’s care instructions before cleaning. Brush or wipe away loose dirt gently with a clean, soft brush or cloth so you do not grind debris into the leather.
2. Spot-clean everyday dirt
For a spot cleaner, Nike’s recipe is one tablespoon of baking soda, two tablespoons of white vinegar and one cup of water. Apply it to dirty areas with a soft brush or cloth and scrub gently. Avoid soaking the shoe; use only enough solution to work on the mark.

3. Use an alternative for localized marks
Nike also suggests wiping away excess dirt with a damp cloth, applying white non-gel toothpaste to dirty areas with a soft brush or cloth, gently scrubbing, then wiping the shoe clean. Micellar water is another option Nike lists for lifting dirt and oil from leather. A household cleaning eraser dipped in water can be used on marks on the leather upper and sole; use light pressure.
4. Let the shoe dry
After cleaning, wipe away residue and allow the shoe to dry. Do not use a washing-machine cycle as a shortcut for the leather shoe body.

How to treat grass stains
- Dab the stain with a cloth or cotton ball dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
- If the stain remains, wet it with white vinegar, leave it for 30 minutes, then brush it away gently.
- If needed, use a store-bought leather cleaner, following its directions and checking suitability for your shoe.
These are methods Nike lists; stain removal is not guaranteed, and results can depend on the stain and shoe condition.
How to clean white laces
Clean the laces separately if that makes it easier to avoid wetting the shoe. Nike lists three options: machine wash the laces, wash them with dish soap, or soak and clean them in water with detergent. The option to machine wash applies to the laces, not to the leather Air Force 1s.

If your Air Force 1s are suede
Do not use the leather routine as a default for suede. Nike recommends using a clean suede eraser, pencil eraser or household eraser on marks with light pressure. If more cleaning is needed, lightly dampen a cloth with suede cleaner, white vinegar or rubbing alcohol rather than drenching the shoe, then let it dry. Check the shoe label first.

Nike’s official care article says: “For leather sneakers, like white-on-white leather Air Force 1s, it’s best to avoid the washing machine and hand wash instead.” Follow the shoe’s care label, and keep any machine-washing option to the laces rather than the leather shoe body.
