Choose by measuring your typical daily use first, then compare the allowance, validity, total price and 5G eligibility. Jio positions 1.5 GB/day for lighter browsing and social use, 2 GB/day for regular video, music and calls, and 2.5 GB/day for 4K streaming, gaming or hotspot-heavy use. For prepaid unlimited 5G, Jio’s FAQ requires a ₹349-or-above plan with at least 2 GB/day, a 5G-compatible phone and Jio True 5G coverage where you use the service.

The ₹349 28-day plan is the practical starting point for regular users. The ₹899 90-day option lowers the daily cost while adding 20 GB, and the ₹3,599 annual plan is the strongest fit for heavy users who want 2.5 GB/day and can pay upfront. Confirm live pricing, plan terms and local coverage before recharging.

Start with your actual daily data use

A plan is a good match when its allowance covers your normal days without forcing you to buy frequent add-ons. Use your phone’s built-in counter rather than guessing from the number of apps installed.

Check a representative period

  1. On Android, open Settings, then Network & internet (or Connections), choose your Jio SIM and open App data usage. The exact labels vary by manufacturer.
  2. On iPhone, open Settings > Cellular and review usage for each app. If you have never reset the statistics, reset them at the start of a billing period and review them after several weeks.
  3. Look at at least two ordinary weeks and one unusually busy week. Include Wi-Fi-off days, travel, hotspot use, large downloads and software updates.
  4. Divide the period’s mobile data by the number of days you actually used mobile data. Select the next higher allowance if your busiest days regularly exceed the lower tier.

Jio describes its 1.5 GB/day tier as suitable for surfing and social media. Its 2 GB/day description covers movies, songs, social sharing and video calls. The 2.5 GB/day description is aimed at activities such as 4K cricket streaming and lag-free gaming. Those descriptions are useful boundaries, but your own phone counter should decide where you fall.

Match your usage to a Jio allowance

Light use: around 1.5 GB/day

Choose the light tier when most communication is messaging, email, maps, web pages and occasional short video. If your usage is rising because of more video or hotspot sessions, a 2 GB/day plan can be better value than repeatedly purchasing small add-ons.

The prepaid unlimited-5G rule in Jio’s FAQ is tied to a plan offering at least 2 GB/day and costing ₹349 or more. Therefore, a 1.5 GB/day option may suit your data needs but should not be assumed to include unlimited 5G under that FAQ rule.

Regular use: 2 GB/day

The 2 GB/day tier is the sensible baseline for daily social video, music, video calls and some HD streaming. It also meets the allowance and price threshold stated in Jio’s prepaid 5G FAQ when the plan costs ₹349 or more.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose this tier if most days fit below 2 GB and only occasional peaks require an extra pack. If video calls, streaming or tethering push you over the limit several times a week, compare a 2.5 GB/day plan or a plan with one-time bulk data instead of relying on repeated top-ups.

Heavy use: 2.5 GB/day or extra bulk data

Frequent HD or 4K viewing, multiplayer gaming, large downloads and hotspot use can exhaust a 2 GB daily allowance quickly. Jio’s own plan descriptions associate 2.5 GB/day with 4K cricket and gaming. A 2.5 GB/day plan is the simpler choice when your high usage is consistent; a 2 GB/day plan with 5 GB or 20 GB extra is more flexible when heavy use is occasional, such as during travel.

Current prepaid examples and their real daily cost

The following figures are examples listed in Jio’s 2026 plan and 5G catalog pages. “Nominal data” multiplies the daily allowance by the stated validity and adds any one-time bulk data. Daily allowances normally apply by day; rollover is not specified in the listed information, so check the plan’s terms rather than assuming unused data carries forward.

Price Validity Included data Nominal total data Price per validity day 5G and best use
₹198 14 days 2 GB/day 28 GB ₹14.14 Short-term 2 GB/day option; it is below the ₹349 prepaid threshold in Jio’s FAQ, so do not expect that rule to grant unlimited 5G.
₹349 28 days 2 GB/day 56 GB ₹12.46 Jio’s 5G page lists it with unlimited 5G; suitable as the regular-user baseline.
₹399 28 days 2.5 GB/day 70 GB ₹14.25 Higher daily allowance for heavier streaming or gaming; verify the live listing’s 5G benefit.
₹459 28 days 2 GB/day + 5 GB 61 GB ₹16.39 Useful when most days are normal but one busy period needs extra data; verify current 5G terms.
₹749 72 days 2 GB/day + 20 GB 164 GB ₹10.40 Jio’s 5G page lists unlimited 5G; the bulk data helps with travel or hotspot bursts.
₹899 90 days 2 GB/day + 20 GB 200 GB ₹9.99 Longer regular-use commitment with a low daily price; confirm the current plan page for 5G inclusion.
₹1,029 84 days 2 GB/day 168 GB ₹12.25 Quarter-length 2 GB/day option without the stated 20 GB bonus; confirm current benefits.
₹3,599 365 days 2.5 GB/day 912.5 GB nominal ₹9.86 Jio’s 5G page lists unlimited 5G; designed for sustained heavy use and one upfront payment.

The ₹149 data pack is different from these daily plans: it provides 10 GB for 30 days. It can fill a temporary gap, but purchasing it alone does not establish eligibility for prepaid unlimited 5G.

Is the annual plan cheaper than monthly recharges?

Compare plans over roughly the same number of days, not just by the recharge amount.

₹3,599 annual plan versus ₹349 every 28 days

Thirteen ₹349 recharges cost ₹4,537 and cover 364 days. The ₹3,599 annual plan covers 365 days, costs ₹938 less over that comparison period and raises the allowance from 2 GB/day to 2.5 GB/day. This comparison assumes the ₹349 plan and its listed benefits remain available at the same price throughout the year; Jio can change catalog terms.

₹3,599 annual plan versus ₹899 90-day cycles

Four ₹899 recharges cost ₹3,596 and cover 360 days, with 2 GB/day plus 20 GB on each plan. The annual plan costs ₹3 more, lasts five additional days and supplies 2.5 GB/day. The 90-day option may still be preferable if you want to avoid a large upfront payment or expect your usage to change before a year ends.

₹3,599 annual plan versus ₹749 72-day cycles

Five ₹749 recharges cost ₹3,745 and cover 360 days, again with 2 GB/day plus 20 GB per recharge. The annual plan is ₹146 cheaper for a nominal five extra days and provides the higher 2.5 GB/day allowance. The 72-day plan gives you more frequent opportunities to change allowances or stop service if your circumstances change.

How unlimited Jio 5G eligibility works

Jio’s official wording says: “Yes, you are eligible for the Jio True 5G plan if you use a 5G device, your city has Jio True 5G coverage, and you have an active prepaid plan with more than 2 GB/day or a Jio postpaid plan of ₹349 or above.” Jio’s FAQ gives a more specific prepaid condition: a ₹349-or-above plan offering 2 GB/day, plus a compatible device and a Jio True 5G coverage area.

Use all of these checks together:

  • Plan: For prepaid service, use the ₹349-or-above and 2 GB/day threshold stated in the FAQ. A lower-priced plan or a data add-on should not be treated as an unlimited-5G plan.
  • Phone: The handset must support Jio’s 5G bands and software requirements. Check the phone manufacturer’s specifications and Jio’s current compatibility information before recharging.
  • Location: Your city and the places where you use data must have live Jio True 5G coverage. Indoor signal, building materials and congestion can affect the connection even inside a covered city.
  • SIM: Jio’s 5G page says an existing Jio 4G SIM can work on a supported 5G network; a separate 5G SIM purchase is not presented as a requirement.
  • Plan status: The qualifying recharge must be active. Changing to a non-qualifying plan or allowing the base plan to expire can remove the benefit.

Check the live plan page and coverage map immediately before payment. Prices, promotional bundles and availability can change, and a plan shown in one catalog view may have different terms after a promotion ends.

When an OTT Pass is better than a plain data plan

Jio’s OTT Pass adds bulk data and access to 15 premium OTT services. It is worth considering when you already intend to use those services and would otherwise pay for them separately. Compare the pass with a regular plan rather than assuming the included subscriptions automatically make it cheaper.

OTT Pass price Validity Extra data Best fit
₹200 28 days 30 GB A single heavy month of streaming or travel.
₹550 84 days 90 GB Three-month use when 2 GB/day usually suffices but streaming peaks are expected.
₹2,000 365 days 365 GB Annual bulk data for a user who wants OTT access without moving to a higher daily tier.

The pass’s unlimited-5G benefit lasts for the shorter of the pass validity and the underlying base-plan validity. For example, a 365-day pass cannot extend unlimited 5G after the qualifying base plan expires. Keep the base recharge active for the entire period you want the benefit.

Special cases: temporary data and gifting

Temporary extra data

The ₹149 10 GB pack with 30-day validity is suited to a short-term increase, such as a trip, a few large downloads or a temporary hotspot requirement. It is not a substitute for selecting a qualifying daily plan when unlimited 5G is your priority.

One-year 5G gift upgrade

Jio lists a ₹601 gift option that upgrades a recipient’s non-5G plan to unlimited 5G for one year. Confirm the recipient’s base-plan status, device compatibility and coverage before relying on the upgrade; the gift does not remove those network and handset conditions.

What to choose in common situations

  • Mostly messaging, maps, email and occasional clips: Start with a 1.5 GB/day tier where available. Move to 2 GB/day if your measured use is consistently near the limit or if unlimited 5G matters.
  • Daily social video, music and video calls: Choose ₹349 for 28 days or a longer 2 GB/day plan. The ₹899 plan is attractive when you can commit to 90 days and value its 20 GB reserve.
  • Regular 4K sports, gaming or hotspot use: Compare the ₹399 2.5 GB/day monthly option with the ₹3,599 annual plan. The annual plan has a lower nominal daily cost but requires the largest upfront payment.
  • Occasional travel or an unusually busy month: A 2 GB/day base plan plus the ₹149 10 GB pack, or a plan carrying 5 GB or 20 GB extra, can avoid paying for a permanently higher daily allowance.
  • Several streaming subscriptions already paid for: Price the relevant OTT Pass against the subscriptions’ value and check that its validity overlaps your qualifying base plan.
  • Uncertain coverage or an older phone: Do not select a plan solely for unlimited 5G. Verify the handset and local signal first; a higher allowance on 4G may be more useful than an unused 5G promise.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Confusing daily data with a monthly bucket

A 2 GB/day plan is not a freely spendable 56 GB pool unless the terms explicitly say so. Track each day’s usage and check whether unused data expires at midnight or follows another rule.

Assuming any 5G icon means unlimited data

A phone can display 5G while the account remains subject to its plan allowance. Confirm the qualifying plan, active status and coverage conditions in Jio’s current terms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Buying a 5G plan for an incompatible phone

Network mode settings cannot add unsupported 5G bands. Check the exact model number, not only the phone family name, and install the manufacturer’s current software updates.

Ignoring hotspot consumption

A laptop update, game download or television stream can consume a large share of a daily allowance. If hotspot use is routine, count it separately in your usage review and compare extra-bulk plans.

Comparing only the headline price

Divide the price by validity days, then account for daily data, bonus data, OTT access and the cost of add-ons you normally buy. A cheaper recharge can cost more over a year if it expires sooner or repeatedly needs top-ups.

Relying on old screenshots

Recharge prices, validity, promotional benefits and eligibility language can change. Use Jio’s live catalog and coverage information at the time of purchase, especially for annual recharges and OTT passes.

A five-minute decision checklist

  1. Record your average and busiest mobile-data days from the phone’s usage screen.
  2. Classify yourself as light (about 1.5 GB/day), regular (2 GB/day) or heavy (2.5 GB/day or frequent bulk-data needs).
  3. Decide whether unlimited 5G is essential. If it is, verify the ₹349-or-above prepaid and 2 GB/day condition, compatible handset and coverage.
  4. Compare at least one 28-day, one longer-validity and one annual option using price per validity day.
  5. Add the value of any 5 GB or 20 GB bonus, OTT Pass or temporary data pack you would otherwise purchase.
  6. Check the current Jio plan page, coverage and terms immediately before confirming the recharge.

For most people, the decision is straightforward: use a 2 GB/day plan for regular streaming and calls, move to 2.5 GB/day for sustained heavy use, and choose the annual ₹3,599 option only when its upfront cost and year-long commitment fit your budget. Treat unlimited 5G as conditional on the phone, plan and location—not as a benefit guaranteed by the recharge price alone.
