The right arcade cabinet is the one that fits three things at once: your complete delivery route, the room you will actually play in, and the games you want to play. Measure doors, halls, stairs, ceiling height, final footprint, control-deck projection, rear ventilation and power clearance before choosing a format. Then decide between bartop, tabletop, upright, cocktail, pedestal or wall-mounted designs; choose two or four players based on real use; and verify controls, software, assembly, shipping and service before paying.
For most apartments, offices and multi-use rooms, start with a bartop arcade cabinet. A full-size upright or wide four-player cabinet makes sense when you have a dedicated game room and enough clearance for both players and delivery.
Measure the delivery route before measuring the game-room corner
Many arcade purchases fail on delivery day: the assembled cabinet fits the intended room, but the crate cannot pass through the front door, hallway turn or stairwell. Measure the entire route from the unloading point to the final position, not only the empty rectangle where the cabinet will stand.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRecord these measurements
- Final location: available width, depth and height, including baseboards, radiators, shelving and furniture that will remain in place.
- Access route: exterior doors, interior doors, hallways, stair landings, stair turns and elevator doors. Measure both width and height, and note the narrowest diagonal clearance.
- Ceiling height: include low beams, sloped ceilings and light fixtures. A tall cabinet may clear the room but fail at a stair turn.
- Operating zone: standing or seating space in front of the control panel, plus side-by-side elbow room for every player.
- Utilities: rear clearance for the power cord, ventilation and access to the on/off switch. Do not press a vented cabinet tightly against a wall.
- Wall capacity: for a wall-mounted unit, locate studs or use a mounting system rated for the cabinet’s loaded weight.
Quality Arcades’ 2026 guidance warns that furniture consumes floor and wall space faster than a room appears to in an empty plan. Leave a few inches of buffer around the cabinet instead of designing an exact fit; a zero-margin measurement leaves no allowance for carrying, turning or protecting walls on delivery.

Use assembled and crated dimensions
Ask the seller for both the assembled dimensions and the shipping-box or crate dimensions. The Arcade Co specifically advises confirming box size, while Phantom Arcades’ room-planning approach checks ceiling, doorway and floor space before an order is placed. A cabinet can be narrow when assembled yet arrive in a wider, deeper carton that cannot negotiate your route.
Representative dimensions are useful for screening only. Quality Arcades lists one full-size upright at approximately 70 inches high × 23.5 inches wide × 30 inches deep. Its four-player Hexacade example is approximately 71 inches high × 41.25 inches wide × 23 inches deep. These are examples, not an industry standard; the exact manufacturer’s specification and crated measurements control your decision.
Plan the player zone, not just the cabinet footprint
A four-player setup published by GameRoomSetup.com uses approximately 3 feet 10 inches × 11 feet including the standing zone, with an 8-foot ceiling. Treat that as one example rather than a universal requirement. Your players may need more depth for stools, wheelchair clearance, people walking behind them or a room that doubles as a living area.
Draw the cabinet footprint on the floor with painter’s tape, then mark the control-deck edge and the path people use to enter the room. This makes it easier to see whether a player zone blocks a sofa, door or walkway. Repeat the exercise with the crate dimensions if the seller supplies them. For a bartop, tape the tabletop footprint as well as the depth occupied by the controls and the rear cable bend.
Choose the cabinet format that matches the room
| Format | Best fit | What it provides | Space and setup cautions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bartop | Apartment, office, bedroom or multi-use living room | Dedicated controls and screen on an existing table, desk or optional stand | Check table depth, seated or standing comfort and whether the stand is included |
| Tabletop or mini | Rooms with a counter, desk or table already available | Smallest floor commitment | Control height can be awkward; verify comfort at the intended seat or standing position |
| Full-size upright | Dedicated basement or game room | Classic standing experience and room for a larger control deck | Tall and deep; measure ceiling, doors, halls, stairs and front clearance |
| Cocktail table | Furniture-first rooms and seated play from more than one side | Game machine that doubles as a table | Uses table area and seating clearance; it does not make space needs disappear |
| Pedestal | Buyers wanting a dedicated control surface without tall side panels | Table-height or compact footprint with less visual mass | Still needs player clearance, a display and a practical cable route |
| Wall-mounted | When floor area is the binding constraint | Moves the cabinet off the floor | Requires adequate wall strength, correct mounting height, cable routing and comfortable viewing angle |
Bartop: the safest starting point for a small room
A bartop preserves floor space because the room’s existing furniture supplies the support. It is usually the most practical format for an apartment, office or living room that must retain circulation space. Before ordering, confirm the table is deep enough for the control deck and that the screen can be viewed without neck strain. If you plan to add a stand later, check its assembled height and footprint now; an optional stand can turn a compact purchase into a full-height obstruction.
Also decide whether the bartop will normally be played seated or standing. A desk-height surface may be comfortable in a chair but too low for standing play, while a high counter can force awkward shoulder and wrist positions. Check how the unit is secured to the furniture, where its power supply sits, and whether it can be lifted away for storage without disconnecting fragile cables.

Full-size upright: best when the cabinet is the room’s purpose
An upright delivers the familiar standing posture, visible side art and a larger control panel. It suits a dedicated game room where the cabinet can remain in one place. The trade-off is transport: its height, depth and weight complicate stairs, narrow turns and future relocation. Use the manufacturer’s exact figures rather than assuming every “standard” upright is the same.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Check screen orientation as well as size. A library built around vertically oriented games may be poorly served by a cabinet whose display is fixed horizontally, and changing orientation later may require hardware or software work. Ask whether the screen can be rotated, whether the menu supports both orientations and whether the warranty is affected by opening the display area.
Cocktail, pedestal and wall-mounted formats
A cocktail table can blend with furniture and let players sit on different sides, but stools and approach space become part of the footprint. A pedestal reduces visual bulk while keeping a dedicated control surface; you still need a display and room for players to stand or sit. Wall mounting solves a floor-space problem by creating structural and ergonomic requirements. Confirm the wall can carry the loaded unit, place the controls at a comfortable height, and plan a safe route for power and signal cables.
Wall-mounted buyers should mark the lowest and highest comfortable viewing positions before drilling. Keep the unit clear of doors, shelves and heating equipment, and make sure service panels remain reachable. A wall format is not automatically easier to move: removing it later means supporting the cabinet while hardware and cables are disconnected.
Decide between two-player and four-player controls
Two players are the practical default for many homes. A two-player deck handles common arcade sessions while staying narrower, easier to deliver and easier to place in a living room. Choose four players when you regularly host groups and your library contains games built for four simultaneous participants, such as cooperative beat-’em-ups and sports titles.

- Games: Count the titles you will actually play with four people at the same time, not the maximum number of games advertised.
- Hosting: Occasional guests rarely justify a permanently oversized deck; frequent parties may.
- Clearance: Four players need side-by-side elbow room and an approach path that does not block the rest of the room.
- Delivery: A wide cabinet is harder to carry through doors, turns and stairs and is more difficult to relocate later.
- Room role: A dedicated game room can accommodate a centerpiece; a living room usually benefits from a compact or furniture-like format.
The approximately 41.25-inch-wide Hexacade example illustrates how sharply width can rise from a two-player-style footprint. Do not treat that figure as a universal four-player standard; obtain the exact model’s assembled and crated dimensions.

Remember that player count is a control-panel decision, not merely a software setting. Four controls can remain unused while taking width every day. If your household mostly plays solo or with one other person, a two-player cabinet leaves more room for furniture and circulation; a four-player model earns its space when simultaneous group play is a recurring use.
Let the game library determine the controls
Artwork, a headline game count and cabinet shape do not tell you whether the controls fit your games. Select the panel around the genres and peripherals you will use.
Common control requirements
- Maze and early arcade games: a four-way joystick layout can be preferable to a control scheme optimized for eight-way movement.
- Fighting games: provide enough buttons, spacing and elbow room for two players to operate simultaneously.
- Trackball games: require a correctly positioned trackball with clearance for the player’s hand and arm.
- Light-gun games: need a compatible display, sensor arrangement and, where applicable, recoil or mounting support.
- Racing: use a dedicated seat, wheel and pedals; force-feedback hardware cannot be replaced by a normal upright joystick deck.
- Guitar and rhythm games: require dedicated peripherals and enough surrounding space for physical movement.
Paradox Arcade Systems identifies light-gun, racing and guitar-focused machines as distinct specialty categories. If one of those is your main use, compare a purpose-built cabinet with a general upright rather than accepting a compromise that will be uncomfortable every session.

A control panel that is technically complete can still be uncomfortable if players must twist around a side-mounted display or stand too close to it. For specialty peripherals, confirm where each device stores when not in use so cables and attachments do not become a trip hazard.
Choose the software and assembly model
Compare the complete delivered product, not just the wooden shell or the number of listed games. Mass-market plug-and-play cabinets generally emphasize simpler setup and lower cost. Custom or PC-powered systems can offer broader or more configurable libraries, but they also add operating-system maintenance, control configuration, support and warranty questions.
Questions to ask the seller
- Is the unit fully assembled, partially assembled or flat-packed?
- Are the display, controls, speakers, power supply and stand included?
- What operating system or front-end software is installed, and can you update or replace it?
- Are the games licensed for the included menu and for your region?
- Can you reach the computer, controls and power components without damaging the cabinet?
- Are replacement joysticks, buttons, displays and power parts available?
- What does the warranty cover, who pays return freight and how is technical support provided?
The Arcade Co distinguishes licensed-menu systems from open PC-based systems. That distinction affects what you can add, how you maintain the machine and what support you can expect. Treat a large game count as a prompt to ask about licensing and update policy, not as proof of value.

Assembly also changes delivery planning. A flat-pack may fit through a narrow route more easily, but you need a suitable assembly area and time to build it. A fully assembled cabinet reduces setup work yet places the greatest demand on doors, turns and stairs. Confirm whether a riser, stand, keys, mounting hardware and printed instructions are included rather than assuming they are part of the cabinet.
Account for shipping, lead time and moving equipment
Shipping can be a substantial part of the purchase. Paradox Arcade Systems reports approximately $750–$850 in freight shipping for a full-size cabinet, depending on distance. This is a vendor-reported estimate, not a universal rate; request a current, destination-specific quote that states whether inside delivery, lift-gate service or threshold delivery is included.
The same vendor states an approximately 10-week custom-build lead time. That figure is vendor-specific and can change with workload, parts and destination. Get the expected build date in writing and confirm whether the quoted period excludes freight transit.
Prepare for delivery
- Re-measure the narrowest doorway, hall turn, stair section and elevator opening using the crate dimensions.
- Clear furniture and fragile items from the route; protect floors and corners with suitable pads.
- Have a furniture dolly available for a cabinet the carrier permits you to move, and recruit enough help for its weight.
- Check the crate for visible damage before signing and photograph any problem according to the carrier’s instructions.
- Place the cabinet with rear ventilation, power access and player clearance before removing protective packaging.
A tape measure, floor-protection pads and furniture dolly are useful supporting purchases. A stud finder and correctly rated mounting hardware are relevant only to wall-mounted formats; no accessory replaces measuring the route.
Ask how the carrier handles missed delivery appointments, residential access and damage claims. Keep the crate until the cabinet has been tested, because return or repair instructions may require original packaging. Verify whether the freight quote is for curbside, threshold or inside placement; the service level determines how much labor and help you need at arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will an arcade cabinet fit in my room?
Measure the final width, depth and height, then measure every doorway, hallway, stair turn and elevator opening on the delivery route. Compare those numbers with both assembled and crated dimensions, and leave a few inches of buffer. Also reserve the control and player zone, rear ventilation and power access.

What size arcade cabinet do I need?
Use the manufacturer’s exact dimensions rather than a generic standard. As screening examples, Quality Arcades lists a full-size upright at about 70 × 23.5 × 30 inches, while its four-player Hexacade example is about 71 × 41.25 × 23 inches. Your room, route and player clearance determine the usable size.
Is a bartop or full-size arcade cabinet better for a small space?
A bartop is usually the better starting point because it uses an existing table or desk and preserves floor space. A full-size upright needs more height, depth and delivery clearance, so reserve it for a room where the cabinet can remain a permanent centerpiece.
How much room does a four-player arcade cabinet need?
There is no universal minimum. One GameRoomSetup.com example uses about 3 feet 10 inches by 11 feet including the standing zone and an 8-foot ceiling. Treat that as a planning example, then add the exact cabinet width, side-by-side elbow room, approach path and any seating or accessibility clearance.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I get a two-player or four-player cabinet?
Choose two players if most sessions are solo or with one other person. Choose four players when you regularly host groups and will use simultaneous four-player beat-’em-ups, sports or similar games. Four-player width affects both everyday circulation and delivery difficulty.
What should I measure before buying an arcade machine?
Measure the final location, all doors and halls, stair landings and turns, elevator openings, ceiling height, control-deck projection, player zone, rear ventilation and power access. Request the shipping-box or crate dimensions as well as assembled dimensions.
Does a large game count mean the cabinet is a better value?
No. Ask whether the menu is licensed, what software or operating system runs it, whether updates are supported, and whether controls match your intended games. A shorter, well-matched library can be more useful than an advertised count that does not fit your needs.
How much should I budget for freight and how long might a custom cabinet take?
Paradox Arcade Systems reports about $750–$850 in freight for a full-size cabinet depending on distance and states an approximately 10-week custom-build lead time. Both figures are vendor-specific; request a current destination quote and written build schedule, including delivery method and whether transit time is separate.
The Bottom Line
Measure the route first, then choose the format that fits the room’s real role. A bartop or tabletop is the sensible starting point for limited space; an upright or four-player cabinet belongs in a room with enough delivery and player clearance. Match the controls and screen orientation to the games, and get dimensions, software, licensing, shipping, warranty and service details in writing before checkout.
