Choose Logitech speakers by matching the system layout to your room, source device, and listening needs. A stereo pair is the simplest fit for a desk; 2.1 adds a dedicated subwoofer for listeners who want more bass presence; 5.1 surround makes sense only when your device can output multichannel audio and you can place five satellites around the listening area.

What stereo, 2.1, and 5.1 mean

Layout What you get Best fit
Stereo / 2.0 Two main speakers, without a separately listed subwoofer A compact desk or simple setup with minimal wiring
2.1 Two main speakers and a dedicated subwoofer When bass presence matters and you have room for the extra enclosure
5.1 surround Five satellite channels and a subwoofer A multichannel setup with compatible content, suitable device outputs, and space for speaker placement

These layouts describe the number and role of speakers, not a guaranteed sound-quality ranking. Logitech publishes product power ratings, but the figures alone do not show which system sounds better.

Choose stereo for a straightforward desk setup

A two-speaker pair is a sensible choice when desk space, uncomplicated connections, and everyday computer audio matter more than a separate bass enclosure. Logitech’s Z150 is a compact example: the manufacturer lists dual 2-inch drivers, 3 W RMS total output, 3.5 mm inputs, and a headphone jack. See Logitech’s Z150 specifications.

  • Check that the computer or other source has a 3.5 mm output if you plan to use that connection.
  • Consider whether two compact speakers meet your bass expectations; this layout has no dedicated subwoofer.
  • Choose this route if you want a simpler footprint and do not need multichannel placement.

Choose 2.1 when you want a dedicated subwoofer

A 2.1 system adds a subwoofer to the two main speakers. That means a separate enclosure to place, but it gives bass its own speaker rather than relying only on the pair of main speakers. It is the practical middle ground for someone who wants more bass presence without arranging five satellites around a room.

Logitech Z313: a simple wired option

Logitech lists the Z313 at 25 W RMS, with one 3.5 mm input and a wired control pod. The company says it connects to a device through the 3.5 mm input on the back of the subwoofer. Check that your device has a compatible headphone or audio output before choosing it. See the Z313 product details.

Logitech Z407: more connection choices

The Z407 includes Bluetooth, micro USB, and 3.5 mm connection methods, plus a wireless control dial. Logitech’s EU product page advertises 80 W power and 20 W bass; those are manufacturer-listed specifications, not a direct comparison with another system’s performance. The Z407 can connect by wire as well as Bluetooth, so “wireless” should not be read as meaning the speakers themselves need no wired connections. Check the regional Z407 specifications and local availability.

Logitech Z625: a higher-rated 2.1 example

Logitech describes the Z625 as THX-certified and lists 200 W RMS, with optical, 3.5 mm, and RCA inputs. Treat these as manufacturer specifications rather than independent evidence that it will sound better than another model. Its input list may help if your source has optical or RCA output. See Logitech’s Z625 page.

Choose 5.1 surround only if the room and source support it

A 5.1 system requires more than buying a set with five satellite speakers. You need a source that can send multichannel audio, a compatible input path, and a room where the satellites can be positioned around the listening area without impractical cable runs.

Logitech’s Z906 is a 5.1 system. Logitech lists 500 W RMS, Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, and multiple inputs including optical, coaxial, RCA, and six-channel direct. Confirm that your computer, TV, or console exposes an output that matches the connection you intend to use, and that the content and device can deliver the surround channels you want. Review the Z906 inputs and specifications.

Some processing modes can spread stereo input across speakers, but that is not the same as receiving native, discrete 5.1 audio. Logitech’s Z906 user guide describes Stereo 3D and Stereo 4.1 modes as effects applied to stereo input.

Check the connection before comparing models

Write down the outputs on the device you will use before selecting a speaker system. A product’s specific input list is more useful than a general compatibility claim.

  • 3.5 mm: The Z150 and Z313 list this connection; Z313 has one 3.5 mm input.
  • Bluetooth, USB, or 3.5 mm: The Z407 lists Bluetooth, micro USB, and 3.5 mm.
  • Digital and multichannel options: The Z906 lists optical, coaxial, RCA, and six-channel direct inputs.
  • Optical, 3.5 mm, or RCA: The Z625 lists these input types.

Also consider how many sources you expect to connect, whether you want a physical control pod or dial, and where cables can run. A technically compatible system can still be awkward if its controls or wiring do not suit your setup.

A practical selection sequence

  1. Identify the source. Check the actual audio outputs on your computer, TV, or console.
  2. Choose the layout. Pick stereo for two simple speakers, 2.1 if you want a dedicated subwoofer, or 5.1 only if multichannel audio and satellite placement are feasible.
  3. Check the room. Allow space for the subwoofer in a 2.1 system, or plan positions and cable routes for five satellites in a 5.1 system.
  4. Compare features within that layout. Match inputs, control style, and the number of sources to your actual use.
  5. Check local stock and price. Logitech’s U.S. category lists the named examples, but model availability and pricing can vary by market and change over time. Verify current regional listings before buying. See Logitech’s U.S. speaker category.

How to interpret Logitech’s power figures

Logitech lists power figures for these models, including 3 W RMS for the Z150, 25 W RMS for the Z313, 80 W advertised power for the Z407, 200 W RMS for the Z625, and 500 W RMS for the Z906. These are manufacturer-listed specifications; the values use different descriptions and refer to different system layouts. They are not a controlled, comparable listening test and should not be used alone to predict sound quality or declare a winner.
