The right host depends on where the game is rendered. If the machine must run a demanding game and encode its output, it needs suitable gaming compute—usually a capable local PC or a cloud machine with an appropriate GPU. If another device renders the game, or you are streaming an already-rendered recording, the host may only need to encode or relay video. In every case, size the upload path for your chosen settings and plan how you will detect and recover from failures.
First decide what the host has to do
“Hosting a 24/7 stream” can describe several different workloads. Do not choose a server from the stream duration alone: identify where the video is created, then select infrastructure for that job.
The host runs the game
The host needs enough CPU and GPU capacity for the specific game, its graphics settings, and the encoder running at the same time. A generic low-cost VPS is not a safe choice for this workload unless its actual GPU availability and game performance are confirmed. AWS has documented GPU-enabled EC2 as a cloud-gaming pattern, but that example does not establish that any particular instance can run your game at your desired settings.
Another device renders the game
If a console or separate computer creates the gameplay feed, the streaming host may only need to encode or relay it. Work out how the video will reach that host and whether it needs capture hardware before buying a capture card; a capture card is not automatically required for every setup.

The video is prerecorded or already rendered
A prerecorded loop can require less compute than rendering a live game, but the encoder or relay still has to deliver a valid feed continuously. YouTube’s API documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast scenario where video continues to be sent while broadcasts are managed. Label and present the content honestly: an unattended recording loop is not live gameplay.
Choose local or cloud hosting
This comparison is a decision framework, not a claim that one option is always cheaper or more reliable. Cloud capacity, regional availability, and prices vary; confirm current specifications and charges with the provider you are considering.

| Decision | Local gaming PC | Cloud-hosted gaming machine |
|---|---|---|
| Game rendering | Uses your system’s CPU and GPU. Match the system to the game and encoder workload. | Must explicitly provide suitable GPU capacity if the game runs remotely. AWS’s cloud-gaming example establishes the deployment pattern, not a configuration for every game. |
| Internet path | Depends on your home upload capacity and local network staying available. | Moves the host-to-YouTube upload to the provider’s network. Remote administration still depends on your own connection. |
| Power and uptime | A local power failure can stop the host. A properly sized UPS may cover a brief interruption, but not an ISP outage, software crash, hardware failure, or YouTube-side problem. | The provider operates the physical host, but the material cited here does not establish uptime for a particular provider or this workload. |
| Network capacity and cost | Measure sustained upload and check your internet plan’s terms. | Check the selected instance’s egress limits and transfer charges. Google Cloud says maximum egress depends on machine type and routing, is not guaranteed, and may be reduced by configuration and network factors. |
| Operations | You have direct hardware access, but own patching, restarts, monitoring, and recovery. | Configure remote access and recovery; verify GPU availability, machine lifecycle, storage needs, and continuous compute and network charges. |
| A sensible fit | You already have a gaming system, a predictable local connection, and the ability to maintain it. | You need game rendering off-site or remote operation and can budget for continuous compute. |
Size the upload path around YouTube’s settings
YouTube’s current guidance lists RTMP and RTMPS as streaming protocols; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as video codecs; up to 60 fps; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension of RTMP.
For H.264, YouTube’s recommended video bitrates include these values. They are encoder targets, not minimum internet-plan speeds or guarantees that a home connection or virtual machine can sustain the stream.

|---|---|
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps |

| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 34 Mbps |
Audio, protocol overhead, other network traffic, congestion, and connection stability add to what the path must handle. Leave operating margin rather than planning to run at the connection’s measured ceiling. On a cloud host, verify outbound capacity for the exact machine type and route; provider-wide bandwidth headlines do not establish what one instance will sustain.
Test the real workload before relying on it
- Set the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate mode, and keyframe interval in the encoder.
- Run a speed test and check the sustained upload available to the actual host—not just a headline internet-plan figure.
- Test with representative gameplay, movement, and audio before the scheduled stream. YouTube recommends testing with content similar to the real event.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health while testing and during the broadcast. A short successful test does not prove a host or connection will run indefinitely.
Design for failures, not just a successful start
A 24/7 setup needs an explicit answer to four questions: who or what detects a failed feed, how the encoder restarts, whether it reconnects automatically, and what happens after a host reboot or stream-key problem. YouTube’s API exposes stream configuration and health concepts; for example, noData indicates that the backend has no stream-health information. It is a signal to monitor, not a complete alerting system.

- On a local PC: decide how you will notice a crash or disconnected upload and how you will restart the encoder. A UPS sized for the PC and network equipment may help with a brief local power event, but it cannot prevent ISP, hardware, software, or platform failures.
- On a cloud machine: verify restart behavior, persistent-storage requirements, remote access, GPU availability, and ongoing charges with the provider. Do not assume a virtual machine will automatically recover the whole stream after every fault.
- For either setup: keep a recovery plan for invalid or changed stream keys, encoder exits, host restarts, and loss of network connectivity. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health, but the reviewed guidance does not provide an uptime guarantee for any hosting provider.
Account for the full operating cost
For local hosting, include power use, internet-plan limits, any hardware you need to buy, and the time required to maintain the machine. For cloud gaming, account for continuous compute time, GPU-capable instance availability, storage, and outbound transfer charges. Google Cloud’s egress guidance is instance- and route-dependent, so calculate from the selected configuration and region rather than a general provider figure.
The evidence available here does not establish a universally sufficient VM specification, comparative provider prices, or which option will cost less for your workload. Get current regional pricing and verify game performance before committing to a long-running cloud machine.

When the video is prerecorded, a cloud streaming service is another option
If your goal is to loop uploaded gameplay recordings rather than render a game live, StreamNeo is #1 for keeping that YouTube stream running: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. It does not host or render a live game, and it streams to YouTube only.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
There are no quality tiers: uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps. StreamNeo includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. The same product is available on shorter or longer billing periods; UPI works in India, and cards are accepted in India and worldwide. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
Copyright and channel eligibility still matter
Hosting infrastructure does not grant rights to the game footage, music, overlays, or other material in a stream. Check that you have permission to use the content and music you broadcast, and review YouTube’s applicable live-streaming and monetization rules before setting a loop or unattended broadcast. Continuous availability is not a substitute for compliance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GPU for a 24/7 YouTube gaming stream?
Only if the host itself must render the game, or your chosen encoding workload needs one. A machine relaying an already-rendered feed has a different workload.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does a successful test prove my stream will stay live all day?
No. Testing representative content and monitoring stream health can reveal problems, but neither establishes continuous uptime.
