Choose the Freshdesk Slack app when your goal is to create tickets, receive alerts, or coordinate support work in Slack. Choose Freshworks’ Salesforce Connector App when agents need Salesforce customer context in Freshdesk or when admins want to sync contacts and accounts. The products solve different problems, so some teams may need both.

Choose Slack for support coordination
Freshworks describes its Slack app as a way to view, create, and collaborate on Freshdesk tickets from Slack. The later setup guidance, updated June 15, 2023, documents creating tickets from messages, shortcuts, or global search; receiving ticket notifications in channels; involving teammates in ticket threads; syncing thread conversations back to Freshdesk; and viewing recent open or pending tickets in an app home tab. These are vendor-documented capabilities, so confirm the available features and permissions in your own workspace. What Slack setup involves
- Have a Freshdesk administrator install and authorize the app in Slack.
- Connect the Freshdesk domain and API key.
- Map Freshdesk groups to Slack channels and confirm the intended channels and permissions.
The 2023 guide says public and private channels can be mapped, but the configuring user can map only private channels they belong to. It also says one Freshdesk group cannot be mapped to multiple Slack channels, and mapping a channel adds the Freshdesk bot there. These constraints can affect channel design, so check them against current app behavior before rollout.
Check older Slack instructions against the current app
A separate Freshworks support article, modified June 27, 2022, discusses automation-based channel notifications and direct messages, plus a create_fd_ticket slash command. That article says its conversation-to-ticket slash-command feature applies only to users in the Northern American region and includes the previous 200 messages by default. Because the article predates the later app guide, verify whether those specific behaviors apply to your current version and region rather than assuming they are universal. Choose Salesforce for CRM context or contact and account sync
The Salesforce Connector App has two distinct functions: an inbox widget that displays Salesforce information in Freshdesk, and optional data synchronization powered by the Connector Apps add-on. The widget can show lead and contact information, account details, and associated tasks, cases, and opportunities. Freshworks also documents creating Salesforce leads, contacts, tasks, cases, and opportunities from a ticket details page. That broader widget functionality should not be confused with the documented sync scope, which is contacts and accounts. See the Salesforce Connector App guide.
Understand the sync before turning it on
Administrators can select fields and configure one-way Salesforce-to-Freshdesk sync, one-way Freshdesk-to-Salesforce sync, or two-way sync for contacts and accounts. Freshworks says the default event lookback is one hour; looking further back consumes more tasks. Connector Apps describes pay-as-you-use pricing, while the Salesforce Connector listing notes that in-app purchases and developer charges may apply. No current dollar amount is stated in the listings, so check account-specific charges and task use before enabling sync. Review the Connector Apps collection and the Salesforce Connector App listing.

Plan for permissions and a controlled test
Installation requires configuring a Salesforce connected app and OAuth settings, then supplying Salesforce and Freshdesk account details, including a Freshdesk API key. The connector guide lists OAuth settings, but administrators should review the vendor’s current requirements with their Salesforce administrator and grant only the access the organization approves. The guide says to use a sandbox or active Salesforce account for sync; a sandbox can help validate selected fields, direction, and expected records before production use.
Check which Salesforce app you have
Do not treat “Freshdesk for Salesforce” and “Salesforce Connector App” as interchangeable names. Freshworks’ August 13, 2025 article says the older “Freshdesk for Salesforce” app is deprecated and no longer available in Marketplace, while giving existing users reinstall instructions. New evaluations should begin with the current Salesforce Connector App listing and confirm that it covers the required workflow. Existing users of the deprecated app should follow Freshworks’ reinstall guidance and assess migration needs rather than assuming the two apps behave alike.

Use this checklist before installing
- Name the workflow: ticket collaboration in Slack, Salesforce context in Freshdesk, or contact and account synchronization.
- Identify users and access: determine who will install, authorize, map channels, configure OAuth, and see the connected data.
- Define data scope: list required objects and fields, and for sync specify which system is the source and whether the flow is one-way or two-way.
- Confirm eligibility and cost: check current Freshdesk plan/API access for Slack and Connector Apps pricing and task consumption for Salesforce sync.
- Validate safely: test channel mappings and permissions for Slack; use a Salesforce sandbox when appropriate to verify sync behavior before production.
- Verify product identity: confirm the Marketplace app name and whether an existing installation is the deprecated legacy Salesforce app.
