Choose an AI agent platform by proving three things in your intended deployment: every agent has an accountable identity, its permissions are narrow and enforced at the resources it can reach, and its actions produce logs your team can investigate and retain. Do not select on feature lists alone: run a proof of concept that tests allowed, denied, and revoked actions across the actual tools and connectors you plan to use.
What to verify before comparing platforms
A platform’s security documentation describes available controls; it does not prove that your configuration, connectors, or downstream services enforce them. Ask vendors to demonstrate each control in the edition, region, identity setup, and integrations you intend to deploy.
| Evaluation area | Questions to ask | What to prove |
|---|---|---|
| Agent identity and authority | Does each agent have a distinct identity, a named owner or sponsor, and a clear lifecycle state? Can investigators tell whether it acted as itself or on behalf of a user? | Trace an agent action to the agent identity and, where applicable, the initiating or delegated user. Demonstrate that the identity can be disabled or revoked. |
| Permission scope | Can access be limited to the task, required tools, and specific resources? Are read, write, delete, and administrative permissions separable? | Show that authorization is checked by the target resource, not merely declared in the agent’s orchestration layer. Confirm the behavior for each connector. |
| Policy behavior | Can a policy run in report-only or dry-run mode before it blocks actions? Are decisions inspectable, and can changes be versioned or rolled back? | Compare a permitted action with an unauthorized one in test mode, then enforce the policy and verify the actual downstream result. |
| Event coverage | Which sign-in, administrative, agent-session, tool-call, data-access, data-change, and denied-action events are recorded? Which event categories need to be enabled? | Obtain the event catalog for the exact products and integrations in scope. Confirm that both successful and denied attempts appear where required. |
| Investigation quality | Can each record identify the time, actor, event, affected entity or resource, outcome, and a correlation identifier? Is delegated authority visible? | Use a test event to trace from the agent record to the corresponding application or resource log. Check which fields are available in your plan. |
| Log access and handling | Who can read sensitive logs? Can records be searched, exported, or streamed to your SIEM or durable storage? What retention, export, and encryption-key restrictions apply? | Demonstrate a controlled log-access workflow, an export or stream, and a search for the test events. Confirm retention and limits in current plan terms. |
| Lifecycle governance | Can teams discover agents, assign owners, review access, expire credentials, and decommission identities without leaving access behind? | Show how an owner change, access review, and decommissioning affect the agent identity, credentials, tools, and downstream permissions. |
These questions matter together. A distinct identity is not enough if every agent receives broad shared permissions; narrow permissions are not enough if actions cannot be attributed; and comprehensive event capture is of limited value if investigators cannot retrieve the records.
Run a proof of concept against real tool paths
Use a representative low-risk task, a test identity, and non-production data where possible. Include every connector and tool path that matters: a platform-level policy cannot prove enforcement in an integration that bypasses that policy.

- FIDO Certified Security Key - Meets FIDO and FIDO2 standards. Works with Google, Microsoft, GitHub, Dropbox, and more. Please check service compatibility before purchase.
- Passwordless Login with Passkey - Supports passkey login via WebAuthn and CTAP2. Enjoy password-free sign-ins where supported. Not all websites or services currently support passkeys.
- Advanced Multi-Factor Authentication - Offers 200 FIDO2 passkey slots and 50 OATH-TOTP slots. Strong, flexible 2FA/MFA support across various apps and authentication platforms.
- Define the agent. Create or configure an agent identity. Record its owner, purpose, permitted data, required tools, and whether it acts as itself or on behalf of a user.
- Set the minimum permissions. Grant only the scopes needed for the task. Attempt a permitted read, an out-of-scope read, a write, and a destructive action. Check each result at the target service as well as in the agent interface.
- Enable the required audit categories. Perform the test actions and inspect records for successful, denied, administrative, sign-in, and data-access events. Check whether the records identify the agent, initiating user or delegated authority, resource, outcome, and useful time or correlation data.
- Test policy before enforcement. If report-only or dry-run operation is available, use it to inspect policy decisions. Then enforce the policy and repeat the allowed and unauthorized actions to confirm the runtime blocks what it should.
- Revoke access. Disable the agent identity or remove its permission, then retry the downstream action. Verify that access stops at the resource, not just in an administrative dashboard.
- Test investigation and retention. Search for the test events, export or stream them to the investigation environment, and confirm who can access them, how long they remain available, and whether they can be correlated with application or resource logs.
Record the expected result and observed result for every action. A vendor demonstration can show that a feature exists; this test establishes whether the selected configuration works across your own identity provider, policies, tools, and resources.

Google Cloud Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform
Google Cloud documentation describes IAM roles and custom roles, audit-log categories, log querying and routing, and agent governance features with dry-run and enforced policy modes. One configuration detail to check explicitly: Agent Platform Data Access logs are disabled by default, apart from BigQuery Data Access logs. Confirm the required categories are enabled for your deployment.
Microsoft Entra Agent ID
Microsoft documentation describes distinct agent identities, identity governance, inherited OAuth scopes, Conditional Access, and agent sign-in and audit records. It distinguishes report-only Conditional Access evaluation from enforcement. Test downstream authorization as well: a policy result in the identity layer alone does not establish that a target resource denies an action.

GitHub Copilot enterprise agent management
GitHub documentation describes administrator views for recent and active sessions, agent-activity search, audit events, audit-log streaming, and a separate policy for IDE agent mode. These controls apply to GitHub’s enterprise administration context; verify the coverage for the specific Copilot features and workflows your organization will use.
Anthropic audit logs
Anthropic’s audit-log documentation lists fields including creation time, actor, event, entity, IP address, device ID, and user agent when available. It says chat and project titles and content are not exported in audit logs; unique identifiers are used instead. The documentation also states that the export button is unavailable with customer-managed encryption keys on an Enterprise plan, with events available through the Compliance API. Check current plan details and confirm that the available fields and export route meet your investigation needs.

Make the decision on demonstrated controls
Advance a platform only when the proof of concept shows that an agent has an attributable identity, least-privilege permissions are enforced at the resources it reaches, policy changes and revocation produce the intended results, and required events can be searched and handled under your organization’s controls. Treat missing event coverage, unclear delegated-user context, or permissions that cannot be verified at the target resource as unresolved risks—not as features implied by a general security claim.
The official documentation cited above was accessed on October 4, 2026. Microsoft’s AI security overview says it was last updated May 8, 2026, and Anthropic’s audit-log page gives June 15, 2026 in its update information; other product documentation may change without an obvious publication date.
