For a U.S. household that accepts advertising, the clearest published combination is Verizon’s Netflix and Max perk at $13 per month on qualifying Verizon wireless or home-internet plans. Buying Netflix Standard with ads ($8.99) and Max Basic with Ads ($9.99) separately costs $18.98 per month before taxes, although Verizon advertises $6.98 in savings while the listed prices calculate to $5.98. Confirm the current Verizon plan, eligibility, taxes and activation terms before changing billing.
If you need ad-free viewing, 4K, more simultaneous streams or no Verizon qualifying plan, separate subscriptions can be the better choice. The Disney+, Hulu, Max bundle is a different proposition: it adds Disney+ and Hulu but does not include Netflix.
Start with the exact services and tiers you already pay for
A bundle is only cheaper when it replaces services you would otherwise keep. Write down the plan name, monthly charge, advertising level, video quality, simultaneous-stream limit, download rights, extra-member charges and taxes for every account. A household comparing an ad-supported Netflix plan with an ad-free Max plan is not comparing the same package as a household using both entry-level ad plans.

Netflix says plans are billed monthly on the date you signed up. Max offers annual prices for its listed tiers, so an annual Max payment changes cash flow and cancellation timing even when the nominal monthly equivalent appears lower.
The ad-supported baseline
For Netflix Standard with ads plus Max Basic with Ads, the arithmetic is $8.99 + $9.99 = $18.98 per month, or $227.76 over 12 months before taxes. This is the useful baseline for evaluating an ad-supported bundle, not a universal price for every Netflix-and-Max household.
What the Verizon combination actually includes
Verizon publishes a “Netflix and HBO Max (With Ads)” perk for $13 per month on qualifying Verizon plans. In practical terms, it is an ad-supported Netflix and Max combination attached to an eligible Verizon wireless or home-internet account. Verizon’s page says the perk saves $6.98 per month compared with the separate prices shown there.
The listed standalone prices above produce a different subtraction: $18.98 − $13 = $5.98 per month, or $71.76 over 12 months before taxes. The $6.98 figure is Verizon’s stated comparison; the $5.98 figure is the direct calculation from the current $8.99 and $9.99 prices. Treat the advertised saving as a provider claim and verify the checkout total, taxes and any required Verizon plan rather than relying on either figure in isolation.
Who should consider it
- You already pay for a qualifying Verizon wireless or home-internet plan.
- You are comfortable with advertising on both services.
- The included Netflix and Max tiers meet your household’s screen and resolution needs.
- You value one provider relationship enough to accept its activation and billing rules.
Who should not switch automatically
- You need Netflix Premium or Max Premium features such as 4K-related benefits, four-device use or Dolby Atmos.
- You need Max Standard or another ad-free tier rather than Max Basic with Ads.
- You do not have a qualifying Verizon plan, or the carrier plan costs more than your current arrangement when evaluated as a whole.

The Disney+, Hulu, Max bundle is not a Netflix replacement. Its $16.99 ad-supported price is $1.99 below the $18.98 Netflix-and-Max ad baseline, but the services are different: you give up Netflix and receive Disney+ and Hulu instead.

Use this decision process before changing billing
- Inventory every current subscription. Record the exact Netflix and Max tiers, monthly or annual billing, renewal date, taxes, extra-member charges and the account email used for each service.
- Choose your advertising level. Verizon’s published combination is the ad-supported version. If anyone in the household rejects ads, compare the cost of separate ad-free tiers or any available provider upgrade before enrolling.
- Match screen and quality requirements. Netflix Standard with ads and Max Basic with Ads are 1080p options. Netflix Premium and Max Premium add 4K-related benefits, and Max Premium also lists Dolby Atmos. Count the televisions, phones and tablets that may stream at the same time; a cheaper plan can create household interruptions.
- Check annual commitments. Max lists annual prices of $99.99 for Basic with Ads, $169.99 for Standard and $209.99 for Premium. Do not cancel an annual plan without checking whether unused time is forfeited, credited or retained under the billing channel’s rules.
- Test provider eligibility. Confirm that your specific Verizon wireless or home-internet plan qualifies for the $13 perk. Eligibility, taxes and plan names can change, so use the live offer shown in your account rather than an older advertisement.
- Calculate the whole household total. Add the Verizon service required to obtain the perk, the $13 perk charge, taxes and any extra-member fees. Compare that combined figure with your current Netflix and Max total, not merely with $18.98.
- Identify the billing owner. Decide whether Netflix and Max will continue to be billed directly or through Verizon or another provider. A service can remain active under an old direct subscription after a new provider entitlement is activated, creating duplicate charges.
- Activate first, then cancel carefully. Follow the provider’s activation instructions, sign in to the existing Netflix or Max account when offered, confirm that the entitlement appears, and only then cancel the old billing path. Save confirmation emails and note the next billing dates.
How to switch to the Verizon perk without a duplicate charge
1. Confirm the qualifying plan
Open your Verizon account and locate the current Netflix and Max perk offer. Read the eligibility language for your exact wireless or home-internet plan, the recurring $13 charge, taxes and any introductory terms. If the offer is absent, do not assume that a different Verizon plan or an older promotion still qualifies.
2. Review each existing account
Before activation, sign in to Netflix and Max separately. Record the email address, current tier, next charge and whether either account is billed through a third party. Provider activation may ask you to connect an existing account; creating a new account instead can leave the old one running.

3. Link the existing accounts when possible
Use the account-linking option in Verizon’s activation flow if it is offered. Confirm inside Netflix and Max that the expected tier is active and that the billing page identifies the new provider relationship. Check a television and a mobile device so you know the entitlement is recognized where your household watches.
4. Stop the old billing path
If Netflix or Max was billed directly, cancel that subscription according to its account instructions after the new entitlement is visible. If it was billed through another provider, cancel with that provider; deleting an app does not cancel a subscription. Keep the confirmation number or email.
5. Recheck after the next invoice
Compare the next Verizon bill with the Netflix and Max account pages. Look for a single $13 perk charge, the Verizon plan charge you already expected, taxes and the absence of the old standalone charges. If both billing paths appear, contact the provider that issued the duplicate charge before requesting a second activation.

When separate Netflix and Max subscriptions are the better value
You need premium picture or audio
The Verizon perk is published as an ad-supported combination. Netflix Premium is listed at $26.99 per month with four devices and 4K/HDR. Max Premium is $20.99 per month or $209.99 per year, with four devices, 4K, Dolby Atmos and downloads. If those features matter, compare the standalone premium prices directly; do not treat the $13 ad-supported perk as an equivalent substitute.

Max Standard is listed at $16.99 monthly or $169.99 annually, while the Disney+, Hulu, Max No Ads bundle supplies Max Standard alongside Disney+ Premium and Hulu without ads for $29.99 monthly. Netflix’s cited ad-free tiers are Standard at $19.99 and Premium at $26.99. Select the combination based on the services and features you actually use rather than assuming that removing ads from a bundle preserves its discount.
You do not qualify for Verizon
Separate billing is straightforward when your household has no eligible Verizon plan. Max also documents provider billing through services such as Prime Video Channels, Roku, Xfinity, YouTube TV and Sling. Each provider’s price, eligibility, cancellation policy and available Max tier must be verified in that provider’s current offer; the existence of a billing channel does not establish a Netflix-and-Max bundle.
You want independent cancellation control
With separate accounts, you can pause or cancel one service without changing a wireless or home-internet relationship. That flexibility can outweigh a modest bundle saving for seasonal viewers or households that rotate services.
Understand the Disney+, Hulu, Max alternative
Max describes its bundle as access to all three apps at a discounted price. The With Ads tier costs $16.99 per month and includes Max Basic with Ads, Disney+ Basic and Hulu with ads. The No Ads tier costs $29.99 per month and includes Max Standard, Disney+ Premium and Hulu without ads. Max Premium is not available in this bundle.

Choose the With Ads bundle when
- You want Disney+ and Hulu in addition to Max.
- You accept ads and do not need Max Premium’s four-device, 4K, Dolby Atmos and download feature set.
- You are willing to replace Netflix rather than add another monthly service.
Do not count it as a Netflix saving
Adding this bundle while retaining Netflix produces three services plus Netflix, not a Netflix-and-Max replacement. If Netflix remains essential, include its full $8.99, $19.99 or $26.99 monthly price in the household budget.

Taxes are outside the headline prices
The $8.99, $9.99, $13, $16.99 and $29.99 figures are published subscription or perk prices before any applicable taxes shown at checkout. Compare the final recurring totals in the same location—either all pre-tax or all post-tax—to avoid overstating a saving.
Extra members can erase a discount
Netflix account additions or other household-member charges are separate from the base plan figures listed above. Include those charges in the baseline before deciding that a provider bundle is cheaper.
Annual Max billing changes the exit plan
An annual Max subscription collects $99.99, $169.99 or $209.99 at the annual price shown for the selected tier. Switching to provider billing near renewal may be simple; switching immediately after an annual charge can leave you paying for overlapping access or unused time. Read the current cancellation and refund terms for the billing channel that charged you.

Directly billed accounts and provider-billed entitlements may have different support routes. Keep the activation email, the provider account number and the streaming-account email together. When a stream fails, first determine whether the service page shows an active entitlement, then contact the billing owner rather than opening a second subscription.

Lowest-cost ad-supported Netflix and Max access
A household already paying for a qualifying Verizon plan compares $13 for the published perk with $18.98 for separate Netflix Standard with ads and Max Basic with Ads. Before taxes, the direct arithmetic difference is $5.98 per month. The household should still verify whether Verizon’s required plan carries a higher monthly cost than its current phone or internet service.
Two people who need 4K
If both viewers require 4K-related features, the entry-level Verizon combination is not an apples-to-apples comparison. Netflix Premium is $26.99 monthly, and Max Premium is $20.99 monthly or $209.99 annually. Compare those tiers, their four-device limits and the household’s actual display and audio equipment before considering a downgrade for price.
A family that watches Disney+ and Hulu every week
The $16.99 Disney+, Hulu, Max With Ads bundle can replace separate access to those three services if its ad-supported tiers are acceptable. It does not replace Netflix, so a family that still watches Netflix must add the selected Netflix plan and compare the resulting total with any Verizon arrangement.
A viewer who watches Max only for part of the year
Separate monthly billing may be preferable because it permits cancellation of Max while retaining Netflix. An annual Max price can be cheaper over a full year but less flexible when viewing is seasonal.
