You can compare what an ad blocker discloses, what permissions it requests, how it filters traffic, and whether it works with the AI sites you use. But a privacy notice about data sent to a vendor does not prove the extension never processes page or chat content locally. The official materials cited here do not independently establish that any named blocker never inspects AI chats across versions, settings, and services.

What “does not inspect AI chats” can—and cannot—mean

Ad blockers may use page or network information to decide whether a rule applies. That is distinct from transmitting chat text to the blocker’s vendor. A privacy policy can explain server-bound data without fully documenting every kind of local processing an extension performs.

For a specific product, a strong no-inspection claim would need evidence tied to the exact product version, browser, configuration, and scope of inspection. The official materials discussed below describe policies and filtering behavior, but do not supply that independent, version-specific proof. Treat “won’t read my AI chats” as a question to investigate, not a guarantee to assume.

Compare blockers on five privacy and compatibility questions

What to check Why it matters
Data access and transmission Check the current privacy notice, optional telemetry defaults, update-check data, and requested permissions. Server disclosures do not necessarily describe local processing.
Filtering architecture Find out whether blocking is built into the browser or provided by an extension, and whether the implementation uses Manifest V2 or V3, declarative rules, or other mechanisms. Platform rules can constrain what filters can do and how they are updated.
Blocking scope and mode Modes may differ in whether they block first-party as well as third-party requests, and regional or custom filter lists can change what is affected.
Version and platform Confirm the current browser and extension release, operating system, and distribution channel. Permissions and capabilities can vary across them.
AI-site compatibility Check the specific service and features you use after enabling a configuration. Broad filtering may affect site behavior, and no AI-site compatibility test is established here.

What the published examples establish

AdGuard Browser Extension

AdGuard’s browser-extension privacy notice, dated December 16, 2025, says optional sharing of technical and interaction data is disabled by default. If enabled, that data may include extension configuration, device details, and UI interaction events. The notice also lists browser language, app identifier, and extension version as information sent for filter-update requests. These are disclosures about specified data flows; they do not establish whether page or chat content is ever processed locally to apply a rule. Read the AdGuard browser-extension privacy notice for its current wording.

AdGuard’s release history lists version 5.5.3.3 dated September 30, 2026. AdGuard describes its Manifest V3 extension as using prebuilt rules applied by the browser rather than having the extension evaluate every network request in real time; it also notes limits on active rules and on translating some filtering behavior. That makes MV3 implementation relevant to filtering capability and compatibility—not proof of chat confidentiality. Check the AdGuard extension release history for the version and implementation details current to your platform.

Brave Shields

Brave documents Standard and Aggressive blocking modes. Under its published policy, Standard mode does not apply network-level filter-list blocking to first-party requests, while Aggressive mode blocks first-party as well as third-party requests. Broader blocking may affect site behavior, so verify the mode you actually use. See Brave’s blocking goals and policy.

Brave’s browser privacy policy says the browser does not collect or retain browsing history and describes processing for individual features. That statement has a defined scope: Brave’s statements about its own Leo feature do not establish how other AI chat services handle data when used in Brave. Review the Brave browser privacy policy and the Brave FAQ for their current explanations. Brave also says its built-in ad and tracker blocking is not affected by Google’s Manifest V2 deprecation; this is a platform distinction, not a guarantee about chat inspection.

Check product identity before relying on a policy

A page titled “uBlock: A no-nonsense ad blocker” describes MoEngage use for donation campaigns and a first-run page. Do not treat that page as the privacy policy for uBlock Origin without confirming the product identity: similar names do not mean the same software or policy. The page is available at ublock.org’s privacy notice.

A practical way to choose and configure one

  1. Identify the exact product. Record the browser, extension or built-in blocker name, version, operating system, and installation source. Avoid applying a policy for a similarly named product.
  2. Read the current privacy notice. Separate information sent to the vendor from actions performed locally. Note whether telemetry is optional and its default, what update checks disclose, and which permissions the browser lists.
  3. Inspect the filtering model. Determine whether blocking is browser-integrated or extension-based and, for an extension, which platform implementation it uses. Understand any rule limits or differences that the vendor documents.
  4. Verify the active mode and lists. Check whether first-party requests are filtered, which regional or custom lists are enabled, and whether the mode is standard or aggressive. Do not infer your setting from the product’s general policy.
  5. Test the AI sites and features you rely on. With the chosen configuration, check sign-in, chat, file uploads, voice, and other relevant functions. If something breaks, temporarily disable the blocker for that site or revert a recent list or mode change, then retest. A functioning page does not prove that chat content is never processed locally.
  6. Recheck after updates. Policies, extension releases, browser permissions, and filtering behavior can change. Revisit the vendor’s current policy and release notes when the browser or blocker updates.

How to make a defensible privacy choice

Prefer a blocker whose policy clearly explains telemetry and update requests, whose permissions and filtering model you can inspect, and whose current version works with your browser and AI services. If the deciding requirement is an absolute assurance that chat text is never inspected—even locally—these materials do not establish that assurance for the named examples. Choose only on stronger product- and version-specific technical evidence if that guarantee is essential.

AdGuard’s cited notice is dated December 16, 2025, its release history lists a September 30, 2026 entry, and Brave’s browser privacy policy reports an update on September 23, 2026. Because policies, versions, and distribution can change, confirm the live documents and your installed settings before relying on them.
