Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11To choose a Linux-compatible printer, check the exact model for IPP Everywhere or AirPrint support first. These driverless standards are the simplest route for printing through CUPS. If neither is listed, verify that a current Linux driver or Printer Application supports your distribution and the features you need—not just basic printing.
Start with the exact model, not the brand
Search the manufacturer’s support pages and the OpenPrinting printer database for the full model name, including suffixes and regional variants. A database entry can help identify a driver, but check its date and details: it may describe an older model or software that is not available for your current Linux distribution.
Brand-level claims are not enough. Different models from the same manufacturer may use different drivers, and a printer that prints successfully may still lack Linux support for scanning, ink or toner status, or maintenance functions.
Look for driverless support
Check the specifications for IPP Everywhere, AirPrint, or the label Driverless. OpenPrinting’s CUPS documentation describes support for AirPrint and IPP Everywhere, and its driver guidance says a separate printer driver is not needed in this context when a printer is identified by one of those labels. See OpenPrinting CUPS and Printer Applications and Printer Drivers.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
OpenPrinting’s driver guidance says that almost every printer manufactured since 2010 supports IPP/2.0 with standard file formats; it identifies industrial label printers and certain vertical-market printers as the main holdouts. That is the project’s broad, approximate statement, not a precise independent count. Check the specification for the particular printer you are considering rather than relying on its age.

This is an administrative example, not a universal setup recipe: the device may use a different IPP address, and distributions provide different interfaces for adding printers. The relevant buying check is whether the exact model supports the standard.

If it is not driverless, verify the Linux software
Find out whether the manufacturer offers a current Linux driver for the exact model, or whether it is supported through an OpenPrinting Printer Application. Then check that the package is available and maintained for your distribution. A model that depends on a proprietary or older package may require more setup than one that works driverlessly.
Check each function you expect to use. A driver may support printing but not scanning, status reporting, or maintenance. OpenPrinting’s entries illustrate how much support can vary: the Epson WF-7620 Series entry lists an ESC/P-R Linux driver, while the HP DeskJet 500 entry distinguishes basic printing through HPIJS from advanced status and maintenance features through HPLIP. These are examples of model-specific database records, not current product recommendations.

Choose a connection your network can support securely
Compare the printer’s documented USB, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet connections with how you plan to use it. For network printing, check which protocols the printer itself supports; CUPS supporting a protocol does not mean every printer offers it.
CUPS describes IPP as its native printing protocol and says most network printers and print servers support it. Its network documentation covers IPP and IPPS security features and warns that AppSocket has no security and may be an attack vector. Where network security matters, prefer a documented IPP or IPPS option over an unsecured method. CUPS also documents LPD as a network-printing approach. See Using Network Printers.

Match the printer to the work
Before comparing models, list the work the printer must do. Match those needs against the manufacturer’s specifications and the Linux support information for the exact model.
- Output: monochrome or color, and the media sizes you need.
- Handling: automatic duplex printing and paper capacity or other handling requirements.
- Workload: your expected print volume and the speed you need. The available evidence does not establish numerical cutoffs for home versus office use.
- Multifunction needs: scanning, copying, or faxing, with Linux support for each required function checked separately.
- Connection: USB for a direct connection, or Wi-Fi or Ethernet for network use, along with a supported protocol.
Linux compatibility for printing alone does not guarantee that the scanner or a manufacturer’s status application will work. Confirm the support path for every feature you intend to rely on.
Compare running costs only between specific models
Once you have a shortlist, check each printer’s ink or toner part numbers, quoted yields, local availability, and any model-specific operating requirements. Consumable costs depend on the selected model; there is no meaningful model-independent estimate here. Do not assume that a printer’s core printing support also covers proprietary status or maintenance software.
OpenPrinting’s command-line administration documentation and CUPS’s printing and options documentation can help with setup and everyday printing after you choose a device.
