Choose hosting by estimating what your tracker must do: how many products it checks, how often it checks them, how much price history it retains, how many people use the app, and how quickly it must recover after a failure. A tracker typically needs a user-facing app runtime, durable database storage, and a way to run scheduled collection jobs. Those pieces may come bundled or require separate services, so compare the total architecture and operating burden—not just one monthly price.

What should you look for in hosting for a price tracker?

Start by separating the workload into three parts. The app serves pages or API requests to users; the database stores products, prices, and history; scheduled jobs fetch current prices from stores or APIs. A bundled service may provide several of these pieces together, while a component-based setup lets you choose an app host, database, and job runner separately. Heroku presents its application platform and managed data services separately, while PocketBase Cloud advertises a combined database, frontend, and backend plan (Heroku pricing; PocketBase Cloud pricing).

Compare plans against these requirements:

  • App and worker support: Can the host run your framework and any persistent background worker you need? If collection runs on a schedule, establish whether the host supports that scheduling model, runtime limits, and safe behavior when jobs overlap.
  • Database capacity: Check usable storage, connection limits, backup frequency, and restore options. Price history tends to accumulate, so include the retention period in your estimate.
  • Traffic and usage limits: Identify API or request caps, metered charges, and any limits on concurrent tasks. A flat monthly app fee may not include a separate database or collection service.
  • Reliability and location: Consider the provider’s availability and recovery terms, database isolation, and the location of users and data sources. The plan examples below do not provide a complete apples-to-apples reliability comparison.
  • Portability: Confirm that you can export price history and move the database and scheduled jobs if you change providers. Portability depends on your implementation; the cited plan pages do not establish it for a particular app.

How much hosting does a price tracker need?

There is no defensible universal tier without estimates for product count, polling cadence, traffic, retention, framework, and recovery needs. Use a sizing worksheet before choosing a plan; then compare the resulting workload with each provider’s stated limits.

Estimate collection work

Multiply the number of tracked products by checks per product per day to estimate daily checks. For example, a tracker of 200 products checked every six hours would schedule up to 800 product checks per day (200 × 4), before accounting for retries or extra requests needed to collect a price. This is a planning calculation, not a prediction of a provider’s credits or capacity. Measure the actual requests and run time with your chosen data sources.

Also estimate how long each run takes, the busiest period, and whether a slow run can overlap the next scheduled run. A collection system should define what happens after a timeout or repeated failure: retry safely, record the failure, and avoid duplicate or overlapping work where possible. Parseium, for example, documents cron-scheduled parsers and workflows with overlap protection and automatic disabling after repeated failures (Parseium developer FAQ); that is a feature of that service, not a requirement to use it.

Estimate retained data and user load

Decide how long to retain each observation and whether the app stores every check, only changes, or a summary. Include product metadata, price records, indexes, and backups when assessing database storage; raw observation count alone does not translate directly into disk use. Track database growth over time so you can revise the retention policy or capacity before reaching a limit.

For app demand, estimate normal and peak simultaneous users, along with request volume for dashboards, alerts, and API clients. For job demand, estimate peak concurrent fetches and browser-based tasks if your collection approach uses them. Keep these as separate measures: a service capable of serving user requests is not automatically suitable for scheduled collection work.

Set recovery expectations

Choose how much missed collection history and downtime your use case can tolerate. A personal prototype may accept a delayed check; a tracker relied on for alerts may need monitoring, backups, and a tested restore process. Confirm the specific plan’s backup coverage and restore window rather than assuming that “managed” includes the recovery protection you need.

Bundled hosting or separate services?

The following examples show different architectures rather than interchangeable recommendations. Vendor-published prices and limits were checked on October 3, 2026; providers can change them, so verify the live terms before committing.

Option Published plan details What the architecture means
Heroku managed platform and Postgres Heroku lists Postgres Essential-0 at $5/month with 1 GB disk and 20 connections, and Essential-1 at $9/month with 10 GB disk and 20 connections. The pricing page describes Essential plans as using shared RAM and states a maximum downtime of four hours per month. (Heroku, checked October 3, 2026.) Heroku lists its application platform and managed data services separately. Treat the database figures as database plan details, not the total cost of hosting an app and its collection jobs. The page also lists higher database tiers with dedicated servers, more storage, and additional features.
PocketBase Cloud Free $0/month, 50 MB storage, 500 API requests per hour, frontend hosting, and SSL; the instance pauses after 30 days without API traffic. (PocketBase Cloud, checked October 3, 2026.) A bundled database, frontend, and backend offering. The storage and request ceiling, plus the inactivity pause, make it important to validate whether the plan fits a prototype’s actual usage.
PocketBase Cloud Starter $10/month, 3 GB storage, unlimited API requests, continuous backup covering the previous seven days, GitHub auto-deploy, custom domain, SSL, and DDoS protection. Five listed locations are Frankfurt, Strasbourg, Beauharnois, Hillsboro, and Singapore; the page says locations come from a shared pool selected at deploy. (PocketBase Cloud, checked October 3, 2026.) The advertised bundle includes frontend hosting as well as database and backend. Confirm the plan’s current details and whether its job-running model suits your collection schedule.
Parseium Starter $49/month, 150,000 monthly credits, 10 fetch and 3 browser concurrency, 3 databases, and 1 GB storage. (Parseium, checked October 3, 2026.) A separate collection-service example, not a general hosting-market benchmark. Parseium says credits meter live collection work; stored-data queries and parser dry-runs against stored HTML are free.
Parseium Pro $99/month, 700,000 monthly credits, 30 fetch and 10 browser concurrency, 10 databases, and 2 GB storage. (Parseium, checked October 3, 2026.) Compare its collection limits with your measured job needs, and account separately for the app runtime if it is not included in your arrangement.
Parseium Business $299/month, 3,000,000 monthly credits, 150 fetch and 30 browser concurrency, 30 databases, and 10 GB storage. (Parseium, checked October 3, 2026.) These are published limits for one vendor’s collection service, not proof that a particular tracker requires or will fit this tier.

How to choose and validate a plan

  1. Write down the workload: Record tracked product count, polling interval, estimated checks per day, peak job concurrency, expected user traffic, and history-retention period.
  2. Map every component: Identify which plan runs the app, which stores the database, and which runs scheduled collectors. Note whether each is included or billed separately.
  3. Compare limits with measurements: Check storage, connections, request or credit caps, worker concurrency, scheduling support, and runtime restrictions. Test representative collection jobs where possible instead of inferring capacity from product count alone.
  4. Calculate the full monthly total: Add app runtime, database, job runner, and any metered collection charges. Account for the workload at peak, not only during a quiet prototype period.
  5. Check recovery and exit: Verify backup scope, restore procedure, service location, and export options. Decide how you will restore data or move scheduled jobs if the provider or plan no longer fits.
  6. Recheck provider terms: Confirm current prices, limits, availability terms, and included features on the provider’s page before purchase; the examples in this article were checked October 3, 2026.

A practical prototype-to-growth path

For a prototype, a free or low-cost plan can be a sensible starting point if its documented storage, request, and inactivity limits fit the test. For example, PocketBase Cloud’s listed Free plan is capped at 50 MB and 500 API requests per hour and pauses after 30 days without API traffic, so it is not a no-limits baseline. Record actual database growth, request volume, and job duration from the start.

  • video output/gputhe on-board gpu of the raspberry pi 4 supports 4kp@60 and newly supports h.265 decoding, opengl es 3.0, etc.as for the video output, two micro hdmis with smaller connectors are installed, and the raspberry pi 4 also supports dual screen output.
  • usb 3.0with a new soc, the speed of the raspberry pi 4 around i/o has been improved, and finally usb 3.0 is supported.usb boot is faster and more convenient.
  • network&bluetoothgigabit ethernet (wired lan) has also been significantly speeded up from 300mbps of pi 3b + to 1000mbps (logical value).in addition, bluetooth supported version has been upgraded to 5.0, and the transfer speed of pi 4 has been doubled.
  • power input connectorthe power input connector of the raspberry pi 4 has been changed to usb type c. it is easier to use than micro usb and can supply a larger current reliably.the power requirement of raspberry pi 4 model b is 5v 3.0a, which is higher than the previous model.

Upgrade based on observed pressure: storage approaching its ceiling, jobs running too close to their schedule interval, recurring request or credit limits, or a backup and recovery policy that no longer matches the app’s importance. If you split services, re-evaluate both operational complexity and the combined bill; separate control can be useful, but it also means more components to monitor and recover.
