NCSOFT’s announced roles point to Templar for tanking, Gladiator for wide-area melee, Assassin for precision melee, Marksman for ranged scouting, Sorcerer for burst magic, Spiritmaster for a solo-oriented identity, Cleric for healing with highlighted damage capability, and Chanter for group support. These are role descriptions, not a current performance ranking.
AION 2 classes at a glance
NCSOFT introduced eight classes in its May 2025 presentation. The roles below are a useful starting map for choosing a playstyle, but they do not establish comparative damage, difficulty, leveling speed, PvP strength, or group demand.
| Class | Announced identity | A good starting point if you want… |
|---|---|---|
| Templar | NCSOFT calls it the “Core tanking role.” | To hold the front line and take responsibility for tanking. |
| Gladiator | Powerful, wide-area skill attacks. | Melee combat that can strike broadly. |
| Assassin | Precision-based melee specialist. | Close-range, precise physical combat. |
| Marksman / Ranger | The official 2025 English announcement calls it a long-range scout class; newer English community material uses “Ranger.” | To fight at range and take a scout identity. Check the local client for its current name. |
| Sorcerer | High-burst magic damage. | Magic damage centered on burst windows. |
| Spiritmaster / Elementalist | The 2025 announcement describes Spiritmaster as optimized for solo play; some newer material uses “Elementalist.” | A solo-oriented magic identity. The role label alone does not establish current solo efficiency. |
| Cleric | NCSOFT highlights improved damage capabilities. | A healing-class identity with damage capability also called out by the publisher. This does not make it a primary damage class. |
| Chanter | Versatile support role with multiplayer utility. | To support a group and contribute utility. |
These descriptions come from NCSOFT’s May 2025 class announcement. The English names are not consistent across materials: newer community guides use Ranger and Elementalist where the announcement uses Marksman and Spiritmaster. Confirm the name shown in your regional client rather than assuming every region or version uses the same label.
Choose by the play you want
If you want to tank
Start with Templar. It is the one class NCSOFT explicitly identifies as the core tanking role. That makes it the clearest fit if taking the front line is your priority.

If you want physical melee
Compare Gladiator and Assassin by their stated combat identities: Gladiator’s attacks are described as wide-area, while Assassin is presented as precision-based melee. The available role descriptions do not establish which has higher damage or is easier to play.
If you want to fight at range
Look at the long-range scout class. NCSOFT’s 2025 English announcement calls it Marksman; newer English community guides call it Ranger. Because the naming differs, use the label in your own client when checking class details.

If you want magic
Sorcerer is framed around high-burst magic damage. Spiritmaster is framed around solo play, and is called Elementalist in some newer material. Those identities help distinguish the choices, but they are not evidence that one is stronger, faster to level, or more effective solo in the current game.
If you want group utility
Compare the support-oriented descriptions: NCSOFT calls Chanter a versatile support class with multiplayer utility, while its Cleric description highlights improved damage capability. The announcement does not specify current healing rotations, group demand, or the relative damage of either class.

How to compare two classes before committing
- Name the job you want. Decide whether your priority is tanking, melee, ranged combat, burst magic, solo-oriented play, healing, or support.
- Compare the stated combat identity. For example, weigh Gladiator’s wide-area attacks against Assassin’s precision melee rather than relying on an unsupported general ranking.
- Check the client’s names and availability. English sources differ on Marksman/Ranger and Spiritmaster/Elementalist, and the 2025 announcement does not prove the exact live roster or availability in every region as of October 7, 2026.
- For a strength claim, require current context. Look for evidence tied to a specific patch, region, and PvE or PvP mode. An undated tier list can miss balance changes or treat separate modes as if they were the same.
Why old class rankings may not hold
On March 25, 2026, NCSOFT announced a comprehensive class rebalance, new Stigma skills, and separate PvP and PvE damage calculations. Its announcement names new skills for Gladiator, Templar, Chanter, Cleric, Elementalist, Sorcerer, Assassin, and Ranger. This establishes that class skills and tuning changed; it does not, by itself, provide enough information to rank current class performance.
For that reason, treat the announced roles as a guide to what each class is intended to feel like, not as proof of which class currently wins in a mode or region. The March 2026 update announcement confirms mode-specific tuning, but does not supply a complete current comparison of all eight classes.
