Which Bluetooth tracker works with your phone?
The finding network matters more than a tracker’s headline range. Apple Find My and Samsung SmartThings Find are separate ecosystems, and SmartTag2 requires Samsung account setup and device registration. For Tile, check the exact model’s current compatibility and supported services before buying.

If you use an iPhone, AirTag is the direct Find My option; if you use a Samsung Galaxy phone, SmartTag2 is designed for SmartThings Find. Tile may suit a reader seeking a different product path, but confirm that the model supports the reader’s phone and desired features. Do not assume a tracker designed for one network will participate in another.
How far away can you find keys or a bag?
When your phone is close enough to connect over Bluetooth, the app can help you locate the item. A published range is a maximum or model-dependent specification, not a promise of working distance in a home, airport, or crowded street. Walls, the bag or luggage shell, interference, phone position, and surroundings can all affect the connection.

- Samsung SmartTag2: Samsung’s 2023 US announcement states a maximum Bluetooth range of 120 metres. Treat it as a maximum specification, not a guaranteed distance.
- Tile: Life360 lists 100–500 feet across Tile models. That span is not a single model’s range; identify the specific model before relying on a figure.
These figures come from different product descriptions and are not controlled, directly comparable tests. They do not establish which tracker works farther in everyday use.
Can a tracker find luggage when it is out of Bluetooth range?
It may be located through a finding network if a compatible participating device comes near it and reports a sighting. Apple says an AirTag’s Bluetooth signal can be detected by nearby devices in Find My; Samsung says SmartThings Find can use other Galaxy devices in its Galaxy Find Network. This is network-assisted finding, not GPS built into the tag. Whether and when a sighting appears depends on nearby compatible devices and network participation, so do not treat it as continuous or instant luggage tracking.

For a checked bag, a tracker can provide another way to learn that it has been detected, but it does not guarantee recovery or replace an airline’s baggage process. The available sources establish no independent cross-brand recovery-rate comparison.
Compare precision finding, battery, and attachment
Precision finding
Apple lists improved Precision Finding for AirTag (2nd generation), but support depends on specified iPhone models and regional availability. Check Apple’s AirTag technical specifications against your exact phone and location before paying for a feature you may not be able to use.

Battery life and replacement
Apple says AirTag works for more than a year on a standard replaceable battery; actual life varies with usage, environmental conditions, and battery manufacturer. Samsung advertises up to 500 days for SmartTag2 based on internal testing and simulated typical use. These are manufacturer claims with different stated conditions, not a head-to-head comparison. For Tile, check the exact model’s battery type and whether its cell can be replaced; the available model-wide information does not establish one answer for every Tile tracker.
Use only a battery type confirmed for the exact model in its official specifications or manual. Do not assume every tracker uses a replaceable coin cell.

Attachment and fit
For keys, check whether the tracker has a built-in loop or needs a separate key ring or holder. SmartTag2 has a metal loop for clips and key rings. AirTag’s shape may make a separate key-ring accessory useful. For bags and luggage, choose a holder that fits the model and secures it where it is less likely to fall off; confirm fit and current availability rather than assuming accessories are interchangeable.

A practical checklist before buying
- Match the ecosystem: confirm the exact tracker works with your phone and account, and that you can use its finding app.
- Check the feature you need: if precision finding matters, verify the supported phone model and regional availability.
- Plan the attachment: decide whether the tracker needs a key ring, clip, or luggage holder and confirm the accessory fits securely.
- Check upkeep: verify the battery type, replaceability, and replacement instructions for the exact model.
- Set realistic expectations: use Bluetooth figures as specifications rather than guarantees, and understand that finding an out-of-range item depends on the network encountering it.
