To check whether your YouTube channel can livestream, sign in to the affected channel in YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live. Review any access notices in Live Control Room, then check the Studio dashboard and notifications for strikes or restriction details. If you can set up a stream but it will not start or has poor quality, check the stream’s Health Indicator: a technical error is not necessarily an account restriction.

Check live streaming access for the affected channel

  1. Sign in to the right channel. If you manage more than one channel, confirm that Studio is showing the one that cannot stream.
  2. Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live. Review the access and setup information shown for that channel. YouTube’s baseline requirements are a verified channel and no live streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its current help guidance also says creators must be at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live streaming tips and live streaming restrictions.
  3. Look for account notices. Review the Studio dashboard for strikes or a live streaming restriction notice. Check the channel’s YouTube notifications and associated email too; YouTube says a notice may provide appeal instructions if an appeal is available.
  4. Check the live-stream list. In Studio, select Content > Live to review current, upcoming, and past streams. This can help distinguish an inability to create a stream from an issue with a particular scheduled or existing broadcast. See YouTube Studio’s video management guidance.

YouTube’s public help pages describe eligibility rules, but cannot show the private, current status of an individual channel. The access information and notices displayed in that channel’s Studio are the relevant account-specific clues.

Tell an account restriction from a stream problem

Channel access or policy restriction

YouTube may temporarily or permanently turn off live streaming. Its listed reasons include a Community Guidelines strike or live stream removal, a live broadcast matching another copyrighted broadcast, certain child-safety violations, a significant number of videos with features disabled, or a proposed stream that would violate Community Guidelines. A match to third-party content can lead to a warning, interruption, or termination; an active copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. Consult the explanation and next steps in YouTube’s live streaming restrictions guidance and copyright guidance for live streams.

Daily stream creation limit

A daily limit can prevent you from creating additional streams for 24 hours. That is different from a confirmed account-level restriction. Check the message in Live Control Room and wait for the stated limit to reset rather than creating another channel to work around it. YouTube describes this limit in its restriction guidance.

Technical error or poor stream health

If access and setup are available but a broadcast fails or its quality suffers, look beside the Health Indicator in Live Control Room. YouTube displays timestamped stream errors there; red errors are critical and yellow errors are moderate. Follow the specific message, which may identify a stream-format problem or a daily limit. The live streaming error message guide explains how to interpret these messages. An encoder or ingest problem can affect an individual stream without proving that the channel has lost live access.

Feature limits on made-for-kids content

Audience settings can disable or limit individual features, including live chat, comments, reminder notifications, highlights, or personalized ads. A feature-specific change is not the same as losing the ability to livestream altogether; check which feature is affected and the audience setting attached to the content. See YouTube’s made-for-kids content guidance.

Check permissions if Studio controls are missing

If someone else manages the channel, ask the owner to confirm your channel permissions. Owners and managers can manage live streams; editors can manage streams with limitations; viewers can monitor streams but cannot manage them. A missing control may therefore reflect your role rather than a channel restriction. YouTube explains these roles in its channel permissions guide.

What to do when YouTube identifies a restriction

  1. Read the exact Studio, notification, or email notice and identify whether it names a policy issue, copyright issue, or another reason.
  2. Address the issue described by YouTube. If the notice offers an appeal and you believe the decision is incorrect, use the appeal route in that notice.
  3. Do not try to livestream through another channel while the restriction is active. YouTube says using another channel to evade a restriction is circumvention and may put accounts at risk of termination.

If your channel has access and your goal is to keep prerecorded videos live on YouTube continuously, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded video at the quality you made it, up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
