Your Steam Wallet balance appears in the upper-right corner of Steam, beside your profile name, after you sign in. To see Store purchases, open your account menu and select Account Details > View purchase history. Those paths work on both the Steam website and the Steam client.
Community Market activity is recorded separately from ordinary Store purchases. You can open the Market’s history page or reach the relevant history link from Account Details. This guide explains each route, what the records mean, and what to do when a top-up or charge does not look right.
Choose the record you need
Steam has more than one kind of financial record. Start by identifying whether you need the amount currently available to spend, a Store purchase, or a Community Market transaction.

The website and client expose the same account records. The labels and layout can look slightly different as Steam updates its interfaces, but the account menu and history names are the landmarks to use.

Check your Steam Wallet balance
On the Steam website
- Open the Steam website and sign in to the account whose funds you want to inspect.
- Look at the upper-right corner of the page, next to your profile name.
- Read the amount displayed there. Steam identifies this as your current available Steam Wallet balance.
If you do not see an amount, confirm that you are signed in rather than viewing a public Store page. A different browser account, an expired session, or a partially loaded page can make it appear that the balance is missing.
In the Steam client
- Launch the Steam client and sign in.
- Check the upper-right area beside your profile name.
- The Wallet amount shown there is the available balance for that account.
Do not confuse the displayed Wallet amount with money that is still pending through a payment provider. The upper-right figure is the balance Steam currently makes available to spend.
Why the balance can fall after a purchase
During checkout, Steam normally attempts to use Wallet funds first. If you want to use another payment method instead, you must change the payment selection on the confirmation screen before completing the purchase. Consequently, a Wallet balance can be lower even when a card or another method was available on the account.

Website and client path
- Sign in to Steam through the website or open the signed-in Steam client.
- Select your account name in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Account Details.
- Select View purchase history.
Steam documents this path for both interfaces. If a menu is collapsed, select the account name first; the history link is inside the account-details area rather than in the general Store navigation.
What to verify in an entry
Use the list to match the transaction you are investigating. Check the product or Wallet top-up description, the date, the amount and the status. The history is also where you can confirm a refund or review a charge you do not recognize.

- Date: Compare the transaction date with your email receipt and the time you expected to buy the item.
- Product or service: Confirm that the game, downloadable content, subscription or Wallet funding entry is one you intended to purchase.
- Amount: Check the currency and the amount Steam recorded.
- Refund or adjustment: Look for the corresponding history entry when a purchase was refunded.
- Unfamiliar charge: Keep the history page open while you compare the entry with your payment-provider statement.
Steam recommends checking this history when a charge is unfamiliar. It gives you the account-side record before you contact a bank, card issuer or other payment provider.
Find Community Market transactions
From the Community Market
- Open the Community Market home page while signed in to the correct Steam account.
- Open the Market’s history view.
- Review the purchases and sales listed there, including the item and transaction details shown by Steam.
From Account Details
You can also use the history link provided in Account Details to reach Community Market activity. This is useful when you are already investigating a Store charge and need to determine whether the entry came from the Market instead.

Use the emailed receipt as a second record
Steam says it emails a receipt for each Community Market transaction. Search the inbox associated with the Steam account for the receipt and compare it with the Market history. If the message is not in the inbox, check spam or filtering rules before assuming the transaction failed.
Understand what Steam’s records mean
Wallet balance versus account spending history
The balance in the upper-right is a current-state figure: it tells you what is available now. Purchase history is a chronological account of completed Store activity and related adjustments. A purchase can therefore appear in history even though its amount is no longer visible as a separate line in the current balance.
Steam’s amount versus your bank statement
The total in Steam purchase history may not exactly match the amount shown by a bank, card issuer or payment invoice. Steam notes that regional taxes, processing fees or currency-conversion charges can affect the external statement. If the two totals differ, compare the currency, date and payment method first, then contact the payment provider when the discrepancy remains.

Wallet funds are account-bound
Steam states that Wallet funds cannot be gifted, withdrawn or transferred to another Steam account. They remain associated with the account that received them, so signing into a second account will not display the first account’s balance.

Wallet-fund refunds
Steam states that a refund for Wallet funds may be requested within 14 days when the funds were purchased on Steam and have not been used. This is a policy condition, not a guarantee that every request is approved; confirm the current Steam FAQ and the transaction’s eligibility before relying on it, because policies can change.
Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect Wallet top-up
Work through these checks in order. They distinguish an account or display problem from a payment that Steam has not yet credited.
1. Confirm the receipt
Find the purchase receipt email for the top-up. Verify the account identifier, amount and date shown in the message. The receipt is evidence that the payment request was created, but the balance still needs to appear on the account that made the purchase.
2. Confirm the signed-in account
Compare the account name in Steam with the account named in the receipt. It is common to have multiple Steam accounts in one household or browser profile. Sign out and back in to the account that actually completed the top-up, then check the upper-right balance again.

3. Restart the Steam client
If you used the client, exit it completely and start it again. A restart forces the client to refresh account data that may not have updated during the payment flow. After signing in, check the Wallet amount and the purchase-history entry.
4. Allow the stated waiting period
Steam advises contacting Support when the balance remains incorrect for more than two hours after the purchase. Keep the receipt and the purchase-history details available when you submit the request so Support can match the payment to the account.
5. Avoid paying a second time while checking
A delayed balance does not by itself prove that the first payment failed. Check the history and receipt before attempting another top-up; a second payment could create an additional charge after the original one posts.

Start with Steam purchase history
Open Account Details > View purchase history and look for the date, amount and product that match the external charge. Include Wallet top-ups and refunds in your comparison, not only game purchases.

If no Store entry matches, review Community Market activity. A Market purchase or sale can explain an account charge that does not resemble a conventional Store order, and the emailed Market receipt can provide another date and amount to compare.

Compare currencies and added charges
When Steam’s total and the bank statement differ, check whether the statement includes regional tax, a processing fee or currency conversion. These additions can be applied outside Steam and may account for a higher external total.
Contact the payment provider when the totals still disagree
Steam advises contacting the payment provider if the total in its history differs from the bank statement or invoice after you have accounted for taxes, fees and currency conversion. Provide the provider with the Steam transaction date, amount and any receipt reference they request.

Choose whichever interface is already signed in to the correct account. Switching interfaces does not create a different balance or a separate Store history.

For a routine monthly review or whenever a payment looks unfamiliar, use this order so each check answers a different question:
- Read the current Wallet amount beside your profile name.
- Open Account Details > View purchase history and inspect the relevant date range.
- Open Community Market history if the activity could involve an item sale or purchase.
- Compare the Steam entry with the receipt email and then with the bank or card statement.
- Account for tax, processing and conversion differences before treating a mismatch as an error.
- For a missing top-up, verify the account, restart the client and contact Steam Support after more than two hours if the balance is still wrong.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Looking only at the current balance: It cannot tell you which purchase reduced the funds; use purchase history for that.
- Using the wrong account: Wallet funds are not shared or transferable between Steam accounts.
- Checking only Store history: Community Market transactions have their own history and receipts.
- Assuming a bank total must equal Steam’s total: Taxes, fees and currency conversion can change the external amount.
- Repeating a top-up immediately: Wait for the first payment to appear or be resolved before paying again.
- Relying on an old refund rule: The 14-day unused-funds condition is a stated policy that can change, so verify the current Steam FAQ.
What to have ready when contacting support
Prepare the Steam account name, the purchase date and amount, the receipt email, the relevant purchase-history entry and the payment method’s statement. For a missing Wallet top-up, note when the payment was completed and whether you restarted the client. For an unfamiliar charge, include the matching or non-matching Store and Market entries and explain any difference after taxes, fees or currency conversion. This information lets Support or the payment provider investigate the specific transaction instead of starting with a general account search.
