Short answer: You cannot get an honest yes-or-no compatibility verdict yet. As of 19 October 2026, the official PC listing for METRO 2039 gives only a 64-bit processor and operating-system baseline; its CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, Windows-version and detailed graphics fields are still blank. Deep Silver says fuller technology and specification information will be released before the 4 February 2027 launch. You can still inventory your PC now, check whether it has hardware ray tracing, and be ready to compare every field when the official table appears.
What is confirmed about the PC release
METRO 2039 is the next mainline Metro game from 4A Games, published by Deep Silver. The announced release date is 4 February 2027. The PC version is planned to launch at the same time as the console editions on Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC, alongside PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series platforms.
Deep Silver says the game is being built with the studio’s proprietary 4A Engine. The publisher also describes it as the first Metro game designed with ray tracing in mind. That statement establishes a technical direction, not a published list of required graphics cards.

Why a definitive “can I run it?” answer is not possible yet
A compatibility decision requires at least two complete records: your computer’s hardware and the game’s minimum or recommended specification rows. The current listing supplies neither a processor class nor a graphics-card class, memory amount, installation size or Windows version. It would therefore be speculation to name a required Core, Ryzen, GeForce or Radeon model, a RAM figure, a VRAM threshold, a storage number or a ray-tracing generation.

The 64-bit requirement only rules out a 32-bit operating system or a 32-bit processor. It does not indicate how fast the processor must be, how much memory the game needs, or whether an older 64-bit graphics card will render it acceptably. Ray tracing may make GPU capability important, but no exact RTX, Radeon or other model is officially required at this stage.
Do not treat a search-result system checker, a retailer’s suggested build or an unofficial video as an official Metro 2039 requirement. Until Deep Silver or the relevant store page publishes the rows, those estimates cannot answer the title’s question reliably.
Record your PC’s hardware and software now
Save the values in a note with the date you checked them. Use the exact model names rather than broad labels such as “gaming PC” or “8-core CPU”; model names are what you will compare with the eventual table.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors1. Processor model
- Open Settings > System > About and copy the text next to Processor.
- For a second view, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, choose Performance, then CPU. Record the model, core count and reported speed, but keep the model as the primary identifier.
- On any Windows edition, press Win+R, type
msinfo32, and press Enter. The System Information window lists Processor and helps distinguish a desktop chip from a mobile variant.
Do not convert the model into a guessed equivalent. Wait for the official requirement to state whether an equivalent processor is accepted and how that equivalence is defined.
2. Installed system RAM
- In Settings > System > About, record Installed RAM.
- In Task Manager > Performance > Memory, note the total capacity and the amount currently available. The total installed amount is the value relevant to a requirement table; available memory changes as programs run.
- If you use
msinfo32, record Installed Physical Memory (RAM) as a cross-check.
System RAM and graphics memory are different measurements. A PC can have enough system RAM while its graphics card has too little dedicated VRAM, or the reverse.

3. Graphics processor and VRAM
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, open Performance, and select each GPU entry. Record the full GPU name, Dedicated GPU memory and Shared GPU memory.
- Press Win+R, type
dxdiag, and press Enter. On the Display (or Render) tab, copy Name, display memory details and Feature Levels. - If the computer has both integrated and dedicated graphics, record both entries and identify which one your games normally use. A laptop may switch between them depending on power mode.
Use dedicated VRAM as its own value. Shared memory is borrowed from system RAM and should not be added to dedicated VRAM when you compare with a future requirement.
4. Windows edition and version
- Press Win+R, type
winver, and press Enter. Record the Windows edition and version number shown in the dialog. - Alternatively, open Settings > System > About and record Edition and Version under Windows specifications.
- In
msinfo32, copy OS Name and OS Version if you need a complete inventory.
The current Steam page’s 64-bit wording does not establish whether a particular Windows release will be supported. Compare your edition and version with the eventual operating-system row, including any service-pack or build note.
5. DirectX feature level
In dxdiag, the System tab shows the installed DirectX version, while each display tab shows supported Feature Levels. Record both. Do not assume that an installed DirectX version alone proves support for every rendering feature; the game’s published requirement may specify a feature level or a separate ray-tracing capability.
6. Free installation space
- Open File Explorer > This PC and identify the drive where you would install the game.
- Record the drive’s free space, not its total capacity.
- If you plan to use a different library drive in Steam, Epic Games Store or Xbox on PC, check that drive separately.
No Metro 2039 installation size has been published. Leave additional headroom for downloaded patches and temporary installation files rather than treating the unknown game size as a reason to fill the drive.
Check whether your GPU has hardware ray tracing
Ray tracing is a confirmed design focus for Metro 2039, so identifying this capability is useful preparation. It is not yet proof that a particular card will meet the final requirement.

- Turn on the Bright Lights: With the built-in RGB lighting, take your gaming experience to the next level by pressing the MSI LED button to cycle through lighting options. Customize lighting even further with MSI Center software.
- Use the exact GPU model recorded from Task Manager or
dxdiag. - Look up that model in the GPU manufacturer’s technical specifications and verify that it lists hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Check the desktop or mobile version separately; a laptop GPU with a similar name can have different power and performance limits.
- Record the result as a separate note: hardware ray tracing: yes, no or not verified.
Do not turn this check into a claim that every card in a particular family will be accepted. The official table may distinguish between ray-tracing support, minimum VRAM and a recommended performance tier. Until those rows appear, the most accurate statement is that ray tracing may affect the eventual GPU requirement.
How to compare your PC when the official requirements appear
When Deep Silver or a store page fills in the specification fields, compare each row independently. A single “meets requirements” badge can hide a shortfall in VRAM, operating-system support or storage.
| Field | Your record | What to compare | What a mismatch means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Edition and version from winver |
Required Windows edition, version and 64-bit status | An unsupported edition or 32-bit installation can block launch even if the hardware is fast enough. |
| CPU | Exact model from Settings, Task Manager or msinfo32 |
Minimum and recommended processor rows, including any stated equivalent | Below-minimum CPU capability can limit simulation and frame pacing; do not infer equivalence from core count alone. |
| System RAM | Installed total | Minimum and recommended RAM | Meeting only the minimum may require closing background programs and using lower settings. |
| GPU | Exact active GPU model | Minimum and recommended graphics rows | A model below the minimum is a hardware shortfall; an integrated GPU may be listed separately if supported. |
| Dedicated VRAM | Dedicated memory, not shared memory | Any stated VRAM threshold | Insufficient VRAM can cause texture streaming problems even when system RAM is adequate. |
| DirectX or feature level | dxdiag feature levels |
Required DirectX version, feature level or API | An API mismatch is different from a slow GPU and may not be fixed by lowering resolution. |
| Ray tracing | Hardware capability check | Whether the requirement is mandatory or tied to a preset | If mandatory, a non-ray-tracing GPU may be incompatible; if optional, it may only disable certain effects. |
| Storage | Free space on the intended library drive | Published installation size and any stated free-space margin | Insufficient space prevents installation or patching regardless of other components. |
A practical comparison sequence
- Copy the official minimum and recommended rows exactly, including footnotes, operating-system qualifiers and whether a figure applies to a specific resolution or preset.
- Compare your operating system first. If it fails the platform requirement, resolve that before judging components.
- Compare CPU, RAM, GPU and dedicated VRAM separately. Mark each as above, equal to or below the published row.
- Check DirectX feature level and ray-tracing support independently of the GPU name.
- Confirm free space on the actual installation drive.
- Read any stated performance target. A requirement tied to 1080p at a named frame rate is not equivalent to one tied to 4K or a high-quality preset.
What minimum and recommended rows usually tell you
A minimum row is normally a launch threshold for a defined configuration, not a promise of high image quality or a specific frame rate unless the publisher states those conditions. If your PC meets only the minimum, plan for lower resolution, reduced presets or disabled optional effects. That is a planning assumption, not a Metro 2039 performance guarantee.
A recommended row may target a particular preset, resolution and frame rate. Use those qualifiers instead of reducing the result to “yes” or “no.” If Deep Silver publishes separate presets or modes, compare your hardware with the mode you intend to use.
No official Metro 2039 frame-rate target or benchmark has been published as of 19 October 2026. You should not promise a frame rate from component names alone.

Special considerations for laptops
Laptop compatibility cannot be judged from the processor or GPU family name alone. Mobile chips can have different power limits, cooling and clock speeds from desktop parts with similar labels. Record the complete mobile model, the dedicated GPU’s VRAM and whether the game runs on the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- Test while connected to the manufacturer’s power adapter; battery mode can reduce performance.
- Use Windows graphics settings to confirm which GPU is assigned to the game once it is installed.
- Check the laptop’s available storage, because a small system drive can fail the installation even when the hardware rows match.
- Expect sustained performance to depend on cooling and power limits; an official requirement still cannot guarantee identical results across laptop designs.
Metro Exodus requirements are historical context only
Metro Exodus released on 14 February 2019. Its Steam minimum was published for that older game and must not be used as a forecast for Metro 2039.
| Metro Exodus (2019) minimum | Historical value |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4440 or equivalent |
| System RAM | 8 GB |
| Graphics | GeForce GTX 670, GeForce GTX 1050 or Radeon HD 7870 |
| DirectX | DirectX 11 |
| Storage | 59 GB available space |
The Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition has a separate requirement for an Nvidia RTX or AMD RX ray-tracing-capable GPU. That requirement belongs to the Enhanced Edition, not to Metro 2039. The 8 GB RAM and 59 GB figures likewise describe the 2019 predecessor only; they do not establish how much memory or storage the new game will need.
When and where to recheck

Check after a specification announcement
Read the full minimum and recommended rows on the official Steam listing or a Deep Silver announcement. Capture the date and any notes about presets, resolution, frame rate, ray tracing and driver versions. Requirements can differ between storefront text and a later update, so use the newest official version.
Check close to launch
Revisit the official Steam page shortly before 4 February 2027. Development builds can change requirements, storage size or driver guidance. Install current graphics drivers and Windows updates only after confirming that they support your system; do not treat a driver update as a substitute for missing hardware.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Using Metro Exodus numbers as Metro 2039 requirements: keep the historical table separate from the future game’s specification.
- Confusing RAM with VRAM: record installed system memory and dedicated graphics memory in separate fields.
- Assuming ray tracing means a specific card is mandatory: the publisher has confirmed the design direction, not a model threshold.
- Relying on total disk capacity: compare free space on the exact drive where the game library will reside.
- Trusting a single automated compatibility score: verify every official row, including Windows version, DirectX feature level and storage.
- Expecting a frame-rate promise from minimum hardware: look for the publisher’s stated resolution, preset and frame-rate target before drawing that conclusion.
- Ignoring hybrid laptop graphics: identify both adapters and confirm which one is used for games.
A simple decision framework once the table is published
- All minimum fields met, recommended fields not met: the game may be viable at the minimum target, but plan for lower settings and consult the stated performance conditions.
- All recommended fields met: your hardware matches the publisher’s recommended configuration; actual performance can still vary with drivers, thermals and background load.
- One or more minimum fields below the row: treat the PC as unsupported until an official update or a verified upgrade resolves that specific shortfall.
- Ray-tracing status unresolved: wait for the final requirement rather than buying a GPU based only on the phrase “built with ray tracing in mind.”
- Requirements still blank: keep your inventory and recheck the official listing; there is no defensible exact answer yet.
Bottom line
Metro 2039 is planned for PC on 4 February 2027, but its complete minimum and recommended requirements are not published as of 19 October 2026. The only current Steam baseline is a 64-bit processor and operating system. Record your own CPU, GPU, dedicated VRAM, system RAM, Windows version, DirectX feature level and free storage now, and compare each item with the official table when it arrives. Ray tracing is part of the game’s technical direction, while Metro Exodus specifications remain historical context rather than a prediction.
