Check those details before ordering: “RTX 5070” covers cards with different dimensions and power requirements, so the name alone cannot confirm compatibility.
What to check before buying an RTX 5070
Use this checklist with the exact model number of the graphics card—not just “RTX 5070.” NVIDIA says add-in-card specifications vary by manufacturer, so dimensions, power connections and requirements can differ between models. Compare the card maker’s specifications with your PC’s motherboard, case and power supply.

- Identify the exact RTX 5070 board. Record its manufacturer and model number, then find its official dimensions and power requirements.
- Check the motherboard slot. Confirm that it has a PCI Express graphics slot; plan to install the card in the primary PCI Express x16 slot, closest to the CPU in NVIDIA’s guide.
- Measure the case. Compare usable length, height and thickness with the exact card, accounting for obstructions, airflow and power-cable clearance.
- Check the power supply. Verify its rated wattage and the required dedicated PCIe power cables against the exact card’s instructions.
- Confirm operating-system support. Check that your OS is supported and that enough disk space is available for the driver.
If you cannot verify a dimension, cable or requirement, treat that check as unresolved—not as a pass.
Will an RTX 5070 work with my motherboard?
The RTX 5070 uses PCI Express Gen 5, but the motherboard does not necessarily need a Gen 5 slot. PCI-SIG says PCIe 5.0 cards can plug into PCIe 1.x, 2.x, 3.x and 4.x slots, operating at the highest level supported by the configuration. That describes generation interoperability; it does not guarantee that every older PC will work, or that performance will be identical across generations. PCI-SIG’s PCIe FAQ

NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Quick Start Guide calls for a PCI Express graphics slot and recommends the primary PCI Express x16 slot. Before upgrading an older prebuilt system, check its motherboard documentation and firmware support as well as the slot itself; the slot’s presence alone does not settle whole-system compatibility.
Will an RTX 5070 fit in my PC case?
Compare the case’s usable clearance with the exact card’s length, height and thickness. Account for drive cages, radiators, fans, other cards and the power connector, including room for the cable to bend. Also leave space for airflow.
Founders Edition dimensions
NVIDIA’s Quick Start Guide specifies clearance of 244 × 112 × 41 mm for the RTX 5070 Founders Edition and recommends one additional slot of clearance in front of the fans for better airflow. Those dimensions are for the Founders Edition, not every RTX 5070.
Partner cards and small cases
For a partner card, use the manufacturer’s dimensions and clearance guidance. NVIDIA’s SFF-Ready guidance sets maximum card dimensions of 151 mm in height, including power-cable bend radius; 304 mm in length; and 50 mm, or 2.5 slots, in depth. The guidance also says a compatible small-form-factor case needs 312 mm of length clearance for the bundled connector and, depending on orientation, 154.5 mm between the motherboard or riser PCB and the case panel.
NVIDIA lists specific RTX 5070 models meeting its SFF-Ready criteria, including the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 5070 at 126 × 249 × 50 mm and the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5070 WINDFORCE SFF at 110 × 282 × 50 mm. These are model-specific examples, not dimensions to apply to other RTX 5070 cards. Check the specific board and chassis even when a card carries an SFF-Ready designation.
What power supply do I need for an RTX 5070?
Check both the PSU’s wattage and its actual cables. A wattage figure by itself does not establish that the PSU has the connectors required by your selected card.
NVIDIA’s Quick Start Guide specifies a 650 W PSU for the RTX 5070 Founders Edition and gives two connection options: at least two independent, dedicated PCIe 8-pin cables connected to the included NVIDIA adapter, or one PCIe Gen 5 16-pin cable rated at 360 W or greater. The guide says to ensure the plug is fully seated. Follow the instructions for the exact card; its included accessories and cable requirements may differ.
NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 family reference specifications also list 650 W required system power, but specify two PCIe 8-pin cables with an adapter or a PCIe Gen 5 cable rated at 300 W or greater. NVIDIA says that figure is based on a system with a Ryzen 9 9950X and that power requirements can vary with system configuration. The guide and family page therefore give different ratings for the Gen 5 cable option; do not combine them into a universal requirement. Use the specification for the exact card you intend to buy, and check your PSU maker’s documentation for its cables.
Which operating systems does NVIDIA list?
NVIDIA’s Quick Start Guide recommends 64-bit Windows 11 and lists 64-bit Windows 10 version 1803 or newer, as well as 64-bit Linux. It specifies 2 GB of available disk space for driver installation. Confirm support for your specific OS version before upgrading.
How to decide whether your PC is ready
Your PC appears compatible if the exact RTX 5070 model fits with suitable clearance, the motherboard and slot are appropriate, the PSU meets that card’s wattage and connector requirements, and the operating system is supported. If any part is unknown, get the model number or measure and verify it before purchase. NVIDIA’s family specifications and quick-start guide describe different specification contexts, while partner-card requirements vary; neither can confirm compatibility for a particular PC without its component details.
