Check Michigan’s official ballot tracker at Michigan.gov/Vote. Its Absentee ballot section shows when a ballot was sent and whether the clerk received the completed ballot. A “received” update confirms receipt in the tracker; it is not, by itself, confirmation that the ballot passed review or was counted.
Check your ballot status in Michigan’s official tracker
- Open Michigan.gov/Vote and go to the state voter information service, also available at mi.gov/myvoterinfo.
- Search by entering your name, birth month and year, and ZIP code. Alternatively, choose the driver’s-license-number search option.
- Find the Absentee ballot section. It shows when the ballot was sent and whether the clerk received the completed ballot.
You can also sign up for email alerts through Michigan’s ballot notification service. The service asks for the same identifying details, then an email address and your consent; it can notify you when the clerk sends and receives the ballot.
What “received” means—and what it does not mean
A “received” status means the online system reports that the clerk received your ballot. Michigan’s tracker does not present that status as a final acceptance decision or confirmation of tabulation. Local clerks review the signature on each absentee ballot return envelope against the signature on file. Completed, signed ballots received by clerks are securely stored until processing and tabulation. Michigan ballot tracking guidance and the state’s absentee voting information describe these steps.
If your ballot is not showing as received
First consider how you returned it. If you handed in a mail ballot at an early voting site or an Election Day location, the online tracker will not show it as received and will not send a notification. That missing update alone does not mean the ballot was lost.

For questions about whether an application or ballot was mailed or received, contact your local clerk. Use the clerk locator linked from the state voter information service. Michigan’s guidance does not specify a uniform time for each local record to appear in the tracker, so do not rely on an assumed update interval.

For most Michigan voters, the local clerk must receive an absentee ballot by 8 p.m. on Election Day for it to be counted. A specific exception applies to military and overseas ballots: a valid ballot with a matching signature must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received within six days after Election Day.
