Check the AI Gateway’s own deployment type and version, then compare that version with the affected and fixed releases for each relevant GitLab advisory. GitLab says it had deployed fixes to its hosted AI Gateways for the two vulnerabilities covered here. If you operate an affected self-hosted Gateway, upgrade it to the fixed release for its branch. A GitLab Self-Managed installation may use GitLab’s hosted AI Gateway, so the GitLab edition alone does not tell you where the Gateway runs.
First identify which AI Gateway handles your features
GitLab documents GitLab-hosted, fully self-hosted, and hybrid Gateway configurations. In a fully self-hosted configuration, your organization hosts and maintains the Gateway infrastructure. In a hosted configuration, GitLab manages setup and maintenance. A hybrid setup can use a self-hosted Gateway for some features while features that use GitLab-managed models connect through GitLab’s hosted Gateway.
Use your deployment or release records to establish which Gateway serves the feature you are checking. In a hybrid setup, verify the route for that feature rather than treating the whole installation as one Gateway. GitLab Self-Managed describes the GitLab installation, not necessarily the Gateway deployment.
Find the AI Gateway version—not just the GitLab version
The advisories specify AI Gateway versions. Do not use the GitLab application version as a substitute. Record the Gateway version from the deployment or release records for the Gateway in question. GitLab’s documentation does not establish one version-discovery command or procedure that applies to every deployment method, so use the records and installation guidance for your setup instead of relying on a guessed command.

- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Compare the version with each relevant advisory
The two vulnerabilities have different affected ranges and fixed releases. Compare your Gateway version against the correct release stream in each advisory; a fixed version for one stream is not interchangeable with the fix for another.
CVE-2026-90970
GitLab rates this issue Critical with a CVSS score of 9.9. It involves improper neutralization in a custom flow prompt template: under certain conditions, an authenticated user with Duo Agent Platform access could use a specially crafted flow configuration to escape the prompt-template sandbox, potentially allowing arbitrary command execution on the AI Gateway.

| Affected AI Gateway release stream | Listed fixed release |
|---|---|
| 18.1.6 and later in the stream, before 19.2.4 | 19.2.4 |
| 19.3 releases before 19.3.2 | 19.3.2 |
| 19.4 releases before 19.4.1 | 19.4.1 |
Match the installed version to its release stream; do not infer that a version is fixed merely because its number is higher than a version from a different stream.
CVE-2026-1868
GitLab’s advisory, dated February 6, 2026, describes insecure expansion of user-supplied data through crafted Duo Agent Platform Flow definitions in the Duo Workflow Service component. An authenticated GitLab user is required. The issue could cause denial of service or code execution on the Gateway. GitLab assigns it a CVSS score of 9.9.

Check both advisories when assessing exposure to both CVEs. Their version ranges are distinct, and these two advisories do not establish that no other vulnerabilities affect AI Gateway.

- GitLab-hosted Gateway: GitLab says it had already deployed the fixes for both cited issues to its hosted Gateway. The advisories say customers using that hosted Gateway do not need to take action for these issues.
- Customer-operated Gateway: Compare the Gateway’s recorded version with the affected and fixed ranges in each applicable advisory. If it falls in an affected range, upgrade to the fixed release listed for that specific stream, following GitLab’s installation guidance.
- Hybrid configuration: Determine which Gateway handles the feature being assessed. Apply the hosted-Gateway guidance to features served by GitLab’s Gateway and check the version of any customer-operated Gateway separately.
Recheck GitLab’s current security advisories before operational sign-off: later advisories, releases, or backports can change what applies to your deployment.
