The recalled Taeyangcho Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste) contains wheat that is not declared on the affected labels, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Check the jar’s product name, size, UPC and label—not just whether it is gochujang. The recall applies to three listed sizes and UPCs when wheat is missing from the label declaration.
Which gochujang products are included in the recall?
The CFIA published its recall notice on October 3, 2026, following a consumer complaint. It identifies Taeyangcho Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste), with branding shown in Korean characters only, and lists HYMS Trading Ltd. as the recalling firm. The affected products are being recalled because they contain undeclared wheat. Read the CFIA notice and check it for updates.

How to check a jar
- Find the product name. Confirm that the jar is Taeyangcho Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste); the notice shows the branding in Korean characters only.
- Check the net weight. The listed sizes are 170 g, 500 g and 1 kg.
- Match the UPC. Compare the full number on the package with the corresponding UPC in the table.
- Inspect the ingredient or allergen declaration. The recall covers all codes of the listed products where wheat is not declared on the label.
- Check the CFIA notice for changes. The agency says its investigation may lead to additional recalls and that it is verifying product removal.
Recall notices use identifiers such as product name, package size, UPC and lot or date codes to help consumers identify affected food; the U.S. Food and Drug Administration explains these identifiers in its food recall guidance. For this Canadian recall, follow the specific identifiers and label condition in the CFIA notice.
Where was the recalled product distributed?
The CFIA notice lists distribution in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. That is the distribution identified in the notice, not proof that a matching jar could not have traveled elsewhere. If your jar matches the product, size and UPC and wheat is not declared on its label, use the recall instructions rather than relying only on where you bought it.

What to do if your jar matches
- Do not consume it if you have a wheat allergy or sensitivity. The CFIA specifically warns people with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders not to consume recalled products.
- Do not serve, use, sell or distribute the recalled product.
- Throw it out or return it to the place of purchase, as the CFIA advises.
The notice reported no reactions associated with consumption as of its October 3, 2026 publication. That report does not change the instruction to avoid a matching recalled product. The notice does not provide a procedure for making the product safe by removing visible paste, cooking it or testing it at home.
