A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Start with the game’s Steam Store compatibility badge and notes, then look for recent performance reports for the exact handheld you plan to use. The badge helps explain whether a game works and what setup it may need; it does not guarantee a particular frame rate, graphics quality, or battery life.
Check the game’s Steam Deck compatibility details
Open the game’s Steam Store page and find its Steam Deck compatibility badge and detailed notes. Valve assesses four areas: controller and input support, display support, seamlessness, and system support. For a Playable or Unsupported game, the Store’s compatibility section can indicate which Verified requirements are not met. Read the note itself: a limitation might involve a touchscreen, small launcher text, or Proton or middleware support rather than poor performance.
Verified is a defined compatibility signal, not a frame-rate rating. A badge does not tell you whether your target of 30, 40, or 60 frames per second will hold throughout the game. Valve says titles it has tested retain their ratings across Steam Deck LCD and OLED models; that does not make those ratings a benchmark for other handhelds. See Valve’s Deck Verified criteria and Steam Support’s compatibility guidance.
Find recent reports for your exact handheld
If the game is unrated, has a caveat, or you need performance details, check recent ProtonDB reports and Steam discussions. ProtonDB is a crowdsourced source of Linux and Steam Deck experience, not an official Valve test or controlled benchmark. Compare several reports rather than relying on one aggregate score or an old post. Reports can differ because of device hardware, game patches, drivers, Proton versions, settings, and the scene tested. Valve explains that SteamOS is Linux-based and uses Proton to run many Windows games, while its Verified program flags games that do not work well on SteamOS. That broad support does not eliminate exceptions. See ProtonDB and Valve’s SteamOS overview.

Give extra weight to reports that identify the handheld model, operating system or Proton version, game area tested, settings, and any launch options or workarounds. If a post mentions an anti-cheat or launcher problem, check whether newer reports still describe it; support can change after updates. Do not silently apply Steam Deck findings to an ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, or another handheld.
Read performance reports in context
A useful report says what was observed and under what conditions. Look for these details:

- Performance: observed or average FPS, frame cap, and whether frame pacing or stability was discussed.
- Workload: the game area or demanding scene tested, not just the title screen.
- Power: any TDP or performance-profile change, and battery duration only when the reporter explains how and under what conditions it was measured.
The Handheld Verified Steam Curator publishes individual reports across devices including Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go. Its displayed December 2025 examples include 25–40 FPS on low settings on a Deck LCD and 30–45 FPS on low settings on a Deck LCD, with one report suggesting 720p. Other entries describe fixed 60 FPS, control adjustments, or limited battery life. These are dated, device- and setup-specific community observations, not predictions for another player. Review the Handheld Verified curator reports for their individual conditions.
Performance and unplugged play time can pull in different directions. Valve notes that uncapped frame rates, higher brightness, and/or higher volume can drain the Steam Deck battery faster; a compatibility badge does not resolve that trade-off. See the Steam Deck product information.

Use system requirements as a screening check
On the game’s Steam Store page, compare the developer’s minimum and recommended requirements—operating system, processor, memory, and graphics—with the specifications of the exact handheld. Treat this as an initial hardware-fit check, not a way to calculate stable FPS. Listed requirements do not account for every demanding scene, settings choice, driver or Proton behavior, or battery target. If useful requirements are missing, the comparison is inconclusive; rely more on recent reports for your model. No single listed-spec comparison establishes a universal frame-rate rule.
Decide what “run well” means for you
Before buying, set your own threshold for minimum acceptable FPS, visual quality, text readability, controller comfort, troubleshooting, and unplugged play time. Then compare reports against that threshold. If reports reach your target only after lowering resolution or graphics settings, account for that compromise rather than treating the reported FPS as a default outcome. For a demanding game, check the current Steam purchase and refund policy before buying instead of assuming performance.

Compare handhelds on matching evidence
When you have more than one real device option, compare like with like. A higher FPS claim may simply use a lower resolution or graphics preset. Use the same game version and, as far as possible, the same scene and settings; distinguish SteamOS/Proton reports from Windows reports and Steam builds from other store versions.
| Comparison axis | What to check |
|---|---|
| Compatibility | Steam Deck badge where applicable; Proton, launcher, anti-cheat, or middleware reports for the specific device and game version. |
| Sustained performance | Recent FPS observations in demanding sections on that exact model, with resolution and settings stated. |
| Controls and readability | Controller mapping, launcher navigation, text size, and whether keyboard or touchscreen input is needed. |
| Setup friction | Whether the game launches without changes or needs a specific Proton setting, launch option, or workaround. |
| Battery and portability | Reports made under comparable brightness, performance profile, and workload; avoid comparing uncontrolled estimates. |
| Operating system and game scope | Whether evidence covers SteamOS/Proton or Windows, and the Steam version or a different store build. |
This is a way to organize evidence, not a device ranking: the cited reports do not establish a controlled cross-device benchmark.
