Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsOpen the game’s Steam Store page and compare its listed system requirements with your PC’s operating system, processor, RAM, graphics hardware and storage. This gives you a useful compatibility estimate—not a guarantee of smooth performance or a particular frame rate.
Find the game’s system requirements on Steam
- Open the game’s Steam Store page.
- Scroll to System Requirements.
- Read the supported operating system and every hardware category listed. Use the requirements for the exact game you plan to play.
Steam’s “Game is not available on your current platform” support guidance says to check hardware requirements as well as compatible operating systems.
Compare your PC with the requirements
Check the PC’s specifications against the Store page one category at a time. If you do not know a component’s model, find it in your operating system’s system information or device settings before comparing; a broad label such as “Intel graphics” may not identify the actual hardware.
- Operating system: Confirm the listed OS and version are supported. Pay attention to whether the game requires a 64-bit version of Windows.
- Processor (CPU): Compare the processor model with the listed minimum and recommended processors.
- Memory (RAM): Check that the PC has at least the listed amount of memory.
- Graphics card (GPU): Compare the specific graphics hardware and any stated graphics features. A DirectX version alone may not establish compatibility: Steam notes that a graphics card can meet the stated minimum DirectX requirement but still lack required pixel-shader capability. See Steam’s DirectX and Pixel Shader requirements guide.
- Storage: Make sure the PC has enough available space for the amount listed.
Understand Minimum versus Recommended
When a listing provides both, compare your PC with each column rather than treating them as interchangeable targets.

- Ready for Upgrades – Designed with tool-less access, easily swap out components, ensuring future-proof performance for years to come.
- Minimum: The game lists this as its lower hardware target. Meeting it does not promise high frame rates or strong performance.
- Recommended: This is a separate, higher target where provided. A PC that meets only the minimum may need lower graphics settings or may perform below your expectations.
Steam Support puts the limitation plainly: “Simply meeting the system requirements does not mean you’ll have high FPS or strong in-game performance.” Available memory and graphics settings affect results; increasing resolution or video options can also reduce FPS. See Troubleshooting Game Performance Issues – Software.
What if your PC is close to or below a requirement?
Treat a near match as uncertain, not as a definite yes or no. Steam says systems at or near a game’s requirements can experience launch or performance problems. If the game fails to start, its “Games do not run after ‘Preparing to Launch’” guidance recommends checking the requirements and keeping the operating system and drivers current.

If your PC falls short, the relevant upgrade depends on the specific game and the component that misses its requirement. Steam identifies graphics cards and memory as possible performance factors, but there is no universal upgrade that suits every PC. Compare the system first rather than buying a component based on the game’s name alone.
Do not use a Steam Deck rating as a PC benchmark
Steam’s Verified, Playable, Unsupported and Unknown labels describe compatibility with Steam Deck, not whether the game meets the requirements of every Windows desktop or laptop. Steam says Verified games work great on Deck by default; Playable games may need manual configuration; Unsupported titles are not currently considered playable; and Unknown titles have not been tested. See Steam Deck – Software Info & Troubleshooting Guide.

For a more precise compatibility estimate
Compare the exact game listing with your PC’s CPU, GPU, RAM, operating-system name and version, and available storage. Without those details, nobody can reliably say whether a particular game will run well on that particular computer; even a close match to the listed requirements cannot guarantee a specific frame rate.
