The reliable way to check AMD FSR 4 support is to use AMD’s current supported-games list, confirm your Radeon GPU and Adrenalin driver, and identify the game’s rendering path. AMD now presents FSR 4 under the name FSR Upscaling as part of the broader FSR Redstone family. Some games still display the older “AMD FSR 4” wording, while games using the driver-upgrade path may continue to show an “FSR 3.1” control in their own menus.
A game being listed with FSR 3.1, or having Radeon Super Resolution available, does not by itself prove that FSR 4 can run. The checks below distinguish native integration from AMD’s Adrenalin driver upgrade and explain what to do when the labels are confusing.
Use these three checks first
- Find the exact game in AMD’s supported-games list. This is the authoritative starting point for an official FSR 4 or FSR Upscaling claim. Search by the game’s current title and check the entry after any major game or driver update.
- Confirm the GPU and Adrenalin version. AMD describes ML-based FSR Upscaling on Radeon RX 7000- and RX 9000-series graphics. The documented driver-upgrade expansion is for Radeon RX 9000-series cards, using a current AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition driver.
- Identify the rendering path. The driver upgrade requires DirectX 12 and a signed FSR 3.1 dynamic-link library (DLL). AMD says Vulkan games and non-standard integrations are not compatible with that override.
If any one of these checks fails, do not call the game FSR 4-compatible. You may still be able to use an older FSR mode, another upscaler, or Radeon Super Resolution, but those are different technologies.

What AMD means by “FSR 4” now
AMD has reorganized its terminology. The machine-learning upscaler commonly called FSR 4 is now labeled FSR Upscaling on AMD’s current pages and is grouped within FSR Redstone. Game developers do not all update their menus at the same time, so a title can show “AMD FSR 4,” “FSR Upscaling,” or a more general FSR label even when the underlying implementation is related.

The label in a graphics menu is therefore only a clue. A native implementation normally exposes the ML-based option directly in the game. A driver-upgraded implementation can leave the game’s existing FSR 3.1 menu untouched while Adrenalin substitutes the ML-based implementation at runtime. Check the AMD list and the Adrenalin toggle rather than relying on the wording alone.
How to check AMD’s supported-games list
Search for the exact title
Open AMD’s official FSR technology page and follow its supported-games list. Search for the game’s complete current name, including a subtitle where applicable. Avoid treating a similarly named expansion, test build, or older edition as the same entry. A game may be added or removed as AMD changes the catalog, so the live list is more useful than an old screenshot or forum post.
Read what the listing actually promises
An entry can indicate native FSR Upscaling, eligibility for the Adrenalin driver upgrade, or another FSR generation. Record the wording instead of reducing every entry to “FSR 4.” If the entry specifically identifies FSR Upscaling or AMD FSR 4 and the game menu contains that option, native support is indicated. If it identifies an FSR 3.1 integration that qualifies for the driver upgrade, the game may receive FSR 4 through Adrenalin instead.

If the title does not appear, you cannot make an official FSR 4-support claim. It might have been added after the page was last refreshed, or the developer might use an integration AMD has not listed, but neither possibility is confirmation. Check again after a game patch or Adrenalin release. Until the title is listed or the developer documents a native integration, describe support as unconfirmed.
Check your Radeon GPU and driver
GPU families covered by AMD’s current description
AMD’s current FSR Upscaling page describes ML-based upscaling on Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics. AMD says RX 6000 support is planned for 2027; that is a future plan, not current availability. Feature support can vary by implementation and game even within a supported family.
The Adrenalin driver-upgrade route is narrower. AMD GPUOpen’s expanded feature is designed for Radeon RX 9000-series cards. A compatible RX 7000 card should not be assumed to gain FSR 4 in every FSR 3.1 game through the override. For the upgrade path, verify that your card is an RX 9000-series model and that Adrenalin is current.

Find the installed hardware and driver
In Windows, open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and use its system-information area to read the GPU model and driver version. You can also open Windows’ Device Manager and expand Display adapters, but Adrenalin is the relevant place for the FSR toggle. If the software is missing or its Gaming page does not include the control, install or update the official driver for your card, then restart Windows before testing again.

How many games are covered?
AMD GPUOpen reported that the expanded driver-upgrade feature covered more than 85 games with Adrenalin 25.9.1 on September 8, 2025. That is a time-specific count, not a permanent total. AMD can change the whitelist, supported driver versions, or game requirements in later releases.
Native FSR Upscaling versus the Adrenalin driver upgrade
| Support type | Where the control appears | What you need to verify | What the game may display |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native integration | Directly in the game’s graphics or video menu | Game appears on AMD’s list; GPU and driver meet the title’s requirements | FSR Upscaling, AMD FSR 4, or another developer-specific label |
| Driver upgrade | FSR 4/FSR Upscaling toggle in Adrenalin; the game keeps its existing FSR control | RX 9000-series GPU, current Adrenalin driver, DirectX 12, and signed FSR 3.1 DLL | Often still FSR 3.1 in the game menu |
| Older or unsupported integration | Only the game’s original FSR mode | No qualifying DX12 and signed FSR 3.1 path, or title not on AMD’s list | FSR 1, FSR 2, FSR 3, or FSR 3.1 without an FSR 4 upgrade |
Native support is the simplest case: the developer integrated the ML-based upscaler and exposes it in the game. With the driver upgrade, Adrenalin intercepts a supported FSR 3.1 path and substitutes the ML-based implementation. The game can therefore look as though it only supports FSR 3.1 even when FSR 4 is active through the driver.
Step-by-step: enable the Adrenalin FSR upgrade
Use this procedure only after confirming that the game is listed and that your hardware and API meet AMD’s requirements.
- Close the game completely. Exit to the desktop rather than leaving it suspended in the background. The driver setting is most reliable when applied before the next launch.
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. Start it from the Windows Start menu or its system-tray icon.
- Open the graphics controls. Select Gaming, then Graphics.
- Enable AMD FSR Upscaling. Turn on the FSR Upscaling toggle. On a compatible RX 9000 system, this is the driver-side switch that enables the upgrade path.
- Configure frame generation only when supported. The FSR Frame Generation toggle is separate. Enable it only if the game and your hardware support frame generation and you want to use it; turning on upscaling does not automatically guarantee frame generation.
- Launch the game. Open its Graphics, Video, or similarly named settings page.
- Enable FSR 3.1 in the game if necessary. AMD’s instructions require the supported game’s FSR 3.1 path to be active. If the menu is set to another upscaler or to “Off,” select FSR 3.1.
- Choose the quality preset. Select the available quality level—such as Quality, Balanced, or Performance—according to the resolution and frame-rate target you want. The exact preset names are controlled by the game.
- Apply and restart if requested. Some engines reload shaders or require a restart after changing upscaling. Follow the game’s prompt before judging the result.
AMD GPUOpen summarizes the driver path as: enable FSR 3.1 in the supported game and ensure the FSR 4 toggle is turned on in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. AMD’s current naming may show that same toggle as FSR Upscaling.
Check the game’s API and FSR integration
DirectX 12 is required for the documented override
The driver-upgrade feature targets DirectX 12 games. If a title offers both DirectX 12 and another renderer, select DirectX 12 in the game’s launcher or graphics settings, restart, and then test the Adrenalin toggle. A DirectX 11-only title does not meet the documented condition.

Vulkan is not compatible with this override
AMD states that Vulkan games are not compatible with the driver-upgrade override. A Vulkan game can still have its own native FSR implementation, but the absence of the Adrenalin substitution does not indicate a driver fault. Check the game’s documentation or menu for native support instead.
The DLL must be signed and standard
The qualifying path uses a signed FSR 3.1 DLL. AMD also excludes non-standard integrations. A developer may modify, bundle, or route FSR through an engine-specific system in a way that does not match the supported pattern. Do not replace game files with an unofficial DLL to force the feature; that can break updates, trigger anti-cheat warnings, or produce an unsupported result.
Decision table: what your findings mean
| What you find | Conclusion you can make | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The game is on AMD’s list and its menu has FSR Upscaling or AMD FSR 4 | Native support is indicated, subject to the listed GPU and driver requirements | Enable the in-game option and select a quality preset |
| The game is listed, runs in DirectX 12, uses a signed FSR 3.1 DLL, and Adrenalin shows the toggle | It qualifies for AMD’s driver-upgrade path on the required hardware | Enable FSR Upscaling in Adrenalin, then FSR 3.1 in the game |
| The game has FSR 3.1 but uses Vulkan or a non-standard integration | AMD’s documented FSR 4 driver override is not supported | Use any native option the game provides; do not claim driver-upgraded FSR 4 |
| The game is absent from AMD’s list | Official FSR 4 support is unconfirmed | Check the list again after updates or consult the developer’s current documentation |
| Only Radeon Super Resolution is available | There is no evidence of integrated FSR 4 | Treat RSR as a separate fallback upscaler |
Do not confuse FSR 4 with Radeon Super Resolution
Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) is an in-driver spatial upscaler for games that do not include their own integrated upscaler. AMD documents it for compatible full-screen modes and recommends using a game’s built-in FSR when one is available because game-specific integrations can include engine-level optimizations.
RSR availability therefore says nothing about FSR 4 support. A game can work with RSR while having no FSR integration at all. Conversely, a game with native FSR can generally provide more appropriate motion data and sharpening controls through its own menu than a driver-level spatial fallback.

The Adrenalin toggle is missing
- Confirm that the GPU is a Radeon RX 9000-series model for the driver-upgrade route.
- Update AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition to a current release and restart Windows.
- Make sure the game is closed while you change the setting.
- Check that you are using the supported game profile or global Graphics page, not a different application profile.
The game menu shows only FSR 3.1
This can be normal for a driver-upgraded title. Leave the game’s FSR 3.1 option enabled and verify that AMD FSR Upscaling is enabled in Adrenalin. The game label may not change because the driver is substituting the implementation underneath it.
The option is present but has no effect
- Confirm the game is running in DirectX 12 rather than Vulkan or another renderer.
- Check that the title uses the signed FSR 3.1 integration required by AMD.
- Apply the setting, restart the game, and allow shader compilation to finish.
- Disable other driver-level overrides temporarily so you can test one upscaler at a time.
- Return to the AMD list and verify that the exact edition and current game version are included.
Image quality or performance is disappointing
FSR quality presets trade detail for speed. Start with the highest-quality preset that meets your frame-rate target, then compare a static scene and camera movement at the same resolution. A driver-upgraded implementation can behave differently from a game’s native path, so record which toggle is active before changing other graphics settings.

A game update broke support
Game patches can replace DLLs, alter rendering paths, or invalidate a whitelist entry. Reinstall or verify the game files through its launcher, update Adrenalin, and check AMD’s live supported-games list again. If the title changed from DirectX 12 to another renderer or adopted a non-standard integration, the documented override may no longer apply.

How frame generation relates to FSR Upscaling
AMD Software presents FSR Upscaling and FSR Frame Generation as separate controls. Upscaling reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render; frame generation creates additional displayed frames. A game can support one without supporting the other. Check the game’s own frame-generation setting and the GPU requirements before enabling it. Do not infer frame-generation support merely because the FSR Upscaling toggle is visible.
Keep your conclusion current
FSR 4 naming, game whitelists, driver requirements, menu labels, and GPU availability are changing. AMD’s current terminology uses FSR Upscaling and FSR Redstone, while individual games may retain older labels. The supported-game count and driver version cited by AMD GPUOpen—more than 85 games with Adrenalin 25.9.1 on September 8, 2025—describes that release state only. Recheck AMD’s live page and the specific game after updates instead of treating an old compatibility list as permanent.
For a defensible answer about any title, report all three facts together: whether AMD lists the game, whether the GPU and driver qualify, and whether the game uses a compatible DirectX 12 and signed FSR 3.1 path. That combination tells you whether you have native FSR Upscaling, an Adrenalin driver upgrade, or only an older or unrelated upscaling option.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Radeon RX 7000 card run FSR Upscaling?
AMD’s current description includes Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 graphics for ML-based FSR Upscaling, but feature support varies by game and implementation. The documented Adrenalin driver-upgrade path specifically targets Radeon RX 9000-series cards.
Why does my game still say FSR 3.1 when FSR 4 is enabled?
In the driver-upgrade path, the game’s original FSR 3.1 control remains visible while Adrenalin substitutes the ML-based implementation. The unchanged label is not proof that the upgrade failed.
Does Vulkan support AMD’s FSR 4 driver override?
No. AMD’s documented override requires DirectX 12 and a signed FSR 3.1 DLL; AMD states that Vulkan games and non-standard integrations are not compatible with this override.
Is Radeon Super Resolution the same as FSR 4?
No. RSR is a separate in-driver spatial upscaler for compatible full-screen games. Its presence does not establish integrated FSR 4 support.
