To check whether a Fortnite cosmetic is usable on your platform, first make sure Fortnite is using the Epic Games account that owns it, then check whether the item type works in the Fortnite experience you want to play. Those are separate checks: an item can belong to your account but still be unavailable in a particular experience. Whether it is currently for sale is a third, time-sensitive question.

1. Confirm the cosmetic belongs to the Epic account you use on that platform

Epic shares Fortnite items between platforms linked to the same Epic Games account. Sign in to the account used where you obtained the cosmetic, then confirm the platform account you are checking is linked to it. Owning both platform profiles yourself does not make their Fortnite inventories the same if they are linked to different Epic accounts. See Epic’s guidance on what content is shared between platforms and cross-platform purchases and progress.

  1. Identify the Epic Games account currently in use in Fortnite on the device.
  2. Check that the platform account is linked to the Epic account where the cosmetic was purchased, earned, or claimed.
  3. Open the Locker and look for the item. If it is missing, check the account identity before assuming the platform is incompatible.

Items stay on the Epic account where they were obtained; Epic does not support trading items between accounts. Linking another platform account does not move an item to a different Epic account. Epic’s item trading guidance explains that trading is not supported.

2. Check the item against the Fortnite experience you want to play

Finding a cosmetic in your Locker does not guarantee it can be used everywhere in Fortnite. Epic says, “While some items can be used everywhere, most are not compatible with every experience.” Identify the item’s class—such as Outfit, Emote, Back Bling, Pickaxe, Vehicle, or Jam Track—and compare it with the experience in Epic’s live Fortnite Cosmetic Compatibility table.

Fortnite eGift Card
  • Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
  • Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
  • If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
  • Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
  • Redemption: Online

The table covers experiences including Battle Royale, Save the World, LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, Rocket Racing, Fortnite Festival, and Developer-Made islands. Compatibility differs by both item type and experience; for example, some classes have exceptions in LEGO Fortnite Odyssey, Rocket Racing, or Festival. Use the current table for the specific combination you care about rather than treating a cosmetic as universally compatible or incompatible based on its platform.

Check for a rating restriction icon

A small portion of Outfits and accessories may be restricted in islands below a content-rating threshold. Epic says an icon appears for affected items in the Locker and Item Shop. That icon concerns an island’s rating, not necessarily incompatibility with your console, phone, or computer.

3. Separate device support from cosmetic compatibility

Fortnite support for a device answers whether you can play Fortnite there; it does not establish whether every cosmetic works in every experience. Epic’s supported platforms and devices page lists device families such as PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch (including Switch 2), Android, and iOS/iPadOS. Check that page for current platform availability, then use the compatibility table for the item and experience.

4. Treat V-Bucks balance and item ownership as different issues

A different V-Bucks balance on another platform does not by itself show that an already-owned cosmetic failed to transfer. Epic says items are shared across linked platforms, but V-Bucks have exceptions: V-Bucks purchased on Nintendo Switch are not shared with other platforms, and Epic also describes a Korea-specific restriction for PC-purchased V-Bucks. Purchased currency may be platform-locked, while earned currency is shared under Epic’s stated rules. Check Epic’s current V-Bucks transfer guidance for the applicable platform and region.

Fortnite Physical Gift Card
  • An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
  • If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
  • The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
  • Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

5. Check the Item Shop separately if you want to buy the cosmetic

General compatibility rules do not tell you whether a named cosmetic is in the shop today. Check the live in-game Item Shop or the official promotion for the exact item. Shop availability can change, and an item’s compatibility does not establish that it is currently available to purchase.

Quick diagnosis

  • It is missing from the Locker: verify the Epic account and platform-account link, and check whether the item is owned on another Epic account.
  • It appears in the Locker but cannot be used in an experience: look up its item class and target experience in Epic’s compatibility table; check for a rating restriction icon.
  • It works on one device but not another: check whether both devices use platform accounts linked to the same Epic account, then verify the experience-specific rule.
  • Your V-Bucks differ across platforms: check where they were purchased and the regional rules; do not confuse wallet balance with ownership of a cosmetic.
  • You want to know whether it can be bought now: check the current Item Shop or the item’s official promotion.
