To check whether a CSS lecture series covers the official syllabus, compare its lessons topic by topic with the latest syllabus published by Pakistan’s Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC). Record the matching lesson or timestamp for each topic and label it covered, partial, missing, or unclear. This shows what the course appears to include; it does not establish that the teaching is accurate or sufficient for exam preparation.

Start with the latest FPSC syllabus

Use the syllabus linked from the FPSC CSS syllabus page, not only a coaching provider’s course outline, an older saved PDF, or a video description. FPSC identifies its website as the primary source of information for candidates and advises them to check it for developments. Consult the FPSC website for current notices as well as the syllabus listing.

The official PDF surfaced for this topic is titled “Revised Scheme of CSS Competitive Examination.” It describes a 1,200-mark main examination: 600 marks for compulsory subjects and 600 for optional subjects. Because official materials can change, verify the current FPSC listing before relying on that structure.

Build a topic-by-topic coverage map

  1. Fix the syllabus version. Save the document linked from FPSC. Note its title and any publication or update date shown, plus the date you checked it.
  2. Break the syllabus into rows. List every subject and each topic or subtopic under it. A course that names a subject may still omit parts of its scope.
  3. Find traceable lesson evidence. For each syllabus row, record the matching lecture, module, reading, or timestamp. A provider’s claim that a course is “complete” is not evidence that every listed topic appears in the lessons.
  4. Assign a status. Use the definitions below consistently across the checklist.
  5. Review breadth and depth separately. Count topics with a traceable match, then inspect the lesson or outline to judge whether the topic receives substantive treatment. The checklist is an audit method, not an FPSC scoring rubric.
  6. Check for updates again before relying on the course. Compare your saved version with FPSC’s current syllabus listing and relevant candidate notices.

Use consistent coverage labels

  • Covered: A lesson explicitly treats the syllabus topic.
  • Partial: The lesson addresses only part of the topic or mentions it briefly.
  • Missing: You cannot map any lesson to the topic.
  • Unclear: The available outline or lesson material does not provide enough evidence to decide.

Keep the evidence beside each status so another student can see how you reached the assessment. A useful spreadsheet can use these columns:

Interpret the result without overstating it

“All listed topics mapped” means your checklist found a lesson match for every topic in the syllabus version you recorded. It does not mean the course teaches each topic correctly, thoroughly, or effectively. Lesson titles and outlines help make matches traceable, but reviewing the actual teaching is necessary to assess accuracy and depth. Your own exam readiness is a separate question.

If you compare multiple lecture series, use the same syllabus version for each and assess them on the same four axes: topic breadth, apparent depth based on lesson evidence, transparency of the course outline, and how recently the material was checked against FPSC updates. Without each provider’s current outline and lesson evidence, there is no basis for ranking the courses.
