Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Start with the copyright strike email from no-reply@youtube.com, then confirm the affected video in YouTube Studio. The email and the item’s copyright details are better evidence than the timing of a livestream interruption: a stream being interrupted does not, by itself, prove that the archived video received a strike.
Check the strike email and YouTube Studio
- Find YouTube’s official notice. Search the email account associated with the affected channel for a message from no-reply@youtube.com. YouTube says it emails creators explaining why a copyright strike was applied. If you cannot access the channel, the email is the place YouTube directs you to check for strike information. Understand copyright strikes.
- Review the channel’s active strikes. Sign in to the affected account in YouTube Studio and check the Dashboard’s Active copyright strikes section.
- Find the affected content record. In Studio, open Content, apply the Copyright filter, and inspect the item’s restriction details. YouTube’s counter-notification instructions say to hover over Copyright and select See details to review information about the content used. The exact information visible can depend on the notice and item. Submit a copyright counter notification.
- Match the record to the broadcast and archive. Compare the item named in the email and Studio with the livestream and its archived video record. Keep the notice and relevant Studio details together; YouTube recommends retaining records of notices and communications. Tips for copyright removals.
YouTube’s public guidance explains where to look, but does not promise a universal Studio label that explicitly says “livestream” or “archive.” If the email and item details do not clearly identify which record is involved, do not infer it from timing alone.

Tell a live interruption, Content ID claim, and strike apart
| Event | When it may happen | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Live-stream interruption or termination | During a broadcast, when YouTube detects a match to third-party content. | YouTube may warn the streamer, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. This event alone does not establish that a strike was issued against the live event or its archive. Copyright issues with live streams. |
| Content ID claim on an archived livestream | After the livestream ends, if the creator chooses to archive it. | This is a claim workflow, not automatically a copyright strike. YouTube states: “Content ID claims are only made after you complete your live streams, if you decide to archive the video.” Copyright issues with live streams. |
| Copyright strike | After a copyright removal request is reviewed and treated as valid. | A strike is distinct from a Content ID claim. Check the notice and Studio’s affected-content record to establish which item the strike concerns. Understand copyright strikes; About copyright removal requests. |
A broadcast can be interrupted because of a third-party match, and YouTube also says a livestream can be terminated if a copyright strike is received. Those possibilities do not replace checking the specific notice and affected item.
What to do if Studio confirms a strike
First verify that the notice names the content you think it does. If the removal may be mistaken or the wrong content was identified, consider the documented options carefully; a counter notification is a legal request, not a routine appeal.
#1 Best Overall
- Seek a retraction. Contact the claimant to ask whether they will retract the removal request. YouTube lists retraction as a way to resolve a strike.
- Complete Copyright School and wait for expiry. YouTube says a strike expires after 90 days if you complete Copyright School, subject to the channel having fewer than three copyright strikes. Expiry does not reinstate the removed video.
- Submit a counter notification only if you believe the removal was mistaken or misidentified. YouTube shares a counter notification with the claimant. It includes legal statements and personal contact information. If YouTube forwards a valid counter notification, the claimant has 10 US business days to provide evidence of legal action to keep the content from being reinstated. Submit a copyright counter notification.
For a scheduled copyright removal request, YouTube gives the uploader 7 days to take specified actions, such as deleting the content or seeking a retraction, to avoid a strike. A counter notification cannot be filed until the removal takes effect and the strike is applied. Deleting a video does not generally clear a strike that has already been applied.
