To value a Warhammer 40,000 Commander deck accurately, match five details before looking at a price: the named deck, regular or Collector’s Edition, sealed or opened condition, your marketplace and currency, and the date checked. Marketplace figures are gross references, not guaranteed proceeds; fees, shipping, taxes and payment costs reduce what you keep.

The benchmark table below records prices seen on 20 October 2026, then the guide shows how to replace those snapshots with current like-for-like listings and calculate a realistic net value.

Which Warhammer 40,000 Commander deck do you have?

Magic: The Gathering’s Warhammer 40,000 Commander release contains four named decks:

  • Tyranid Swarm
  • Necron Dynasties
  • Forces of the Imperium
  • The Ruinous Powers

Wizards of the Coast’s decklist announcement identifies those four products and says they were sold through local game stores, Amazon and other Magic retailers. Each name is a separate product with its own supply, demand and card mix, so averaging the four prices produces a misleading result.

First read the deck name printed on the packaging or compare the commander names and decklist with the official product listing. Do not rely only on a colour combination or a single prominent card: several 40K decks contain cards that are traded separately, and a replacement card can make an opened deck look like a different product at a glance.

Regular edition versus Collector’s Edition

There are two fundamentally different markets. A regular deck contains the standard versions of its cards and tokens. A Collector’s Edition deck is English-only and uses surge-foil versions of cards and tokens, according to Wizards of the Coast. Surge foils are not a small cosmetic variation for pricing purposes; buyers and marketplaces treat the Collector’s Edition as a separate product.

Record the edition exactly as printed on the box. Never combine a regular listing and a Collector’s Edition listing into one average. If you are unsure, photograph the front, back and any edition wording, then compare the card finish and packaging with a confirmed listing before setting a price.

20 October 2026 gross market benchmarks

The following figures are marketplace references captured on 20 October 2026. They are useful starting points for a regular, complete deck, but they are not promises that a buyer will pay the displayed amount or that a seller will receive it after deductions.

Deck Edition Condition represented Marketplace and geography Current gross reference Rolling average or listing detail Estimated net after fees
The Ruinous Powers Regular Marketplace reference; verify sealed or opened status in the individual listing TCGplayer, US dollars $238.26 market reference Snapshot taken 20 October 2026; listing range was not stated Not stated. Subtract the fee, shipping, tax and payment costs that apply to your transaction.
Forces of the Imperium Regular Marketplace reference; verify sealed or opened status in the individual listing TCGplayer, US dollars $297.93 market reference Snapshot taken 20 October 2026; listing range was not stated Not stated. Use your actual marketplace and payment deductions.
Tyranid Swarm Regular Marketplace reference; verify sealed or opened status in the individual listing TCGplayer, US dollars $312.65 market reference Snapshot taken 20 October 2026; listing range was not stated Not stated. Net value depends on the buyer’s location, shipping method and fee schedule.
Necron Dynasties Regular Marketplace reference; verify sealed or opened status in the individual listing TCGplayer, US dollars $360.60 market reference Snapshot taken 20 October 2026; listing range was not stated Not stated. Treat the figure as gross until your deductions are calculated.
Forces of the Imperium Regular Listings and trend data; sealed status must be checked per item Cardmarket, euro zone €200.00 from price €210.59 price trend; €211.87 (30-day), €216.87 (7-day), and €219.00 (1-day) rolling averages; 30 available items Not stated. Cardmarket fees, postage and any applicable taxes must be deducted separately.

These references are not directly interchangeable. TCGplayer reports a US-dollar market reference, while Cardmarket reports euro pricing and a different buyer base. Currency conversion, import costs and local availability can make one marketplace’s headline number unsuitable for a sale in another region.

How to check today’s value step by step

  1. Write down the exact product name. Choose Tyranid Swarm, Necron Dynasties, Forces of the Imperium or The Ruinous Powers. If the box is missing, use the decklist and commander names to identify it before searching.
  2. Confirm the edition. Mark the item as regular or Collector’s Edition. Collector’s Edition cards and tokens have surge-foil treatment and are English-only; keep those results out of a regular-deck search.
  3. Grade the physical condition. Use one of three practical labels: factory sealed, opened but complete, or incomplete. Note whether the original shrink wrap, deck box, life counter, tokens, basic lands and all listed cards are present.
  4. Search at least two marketplaces available to your buyers. Record the marketplace name, country or currency, the lowest credible asking price, the broader listing range, the displayed market or price-trend figure, and how many comparable listings are available.
  5. Filter for the same condition. A sealed-deck result is not a valid direct comparison for an opened deck. Likewise, a deck missing ten cards should not be averaged with a complete deck simply because the product name matches.
  6. Check the date and timestamp. Write the date beside every figure. Prices can move when supply changes, a reprint appears or local demand shifts, so an undated screenshot is difficult to interpret later.
  7. Calculate gross and net separately. Gross is the marketplace reference or your asking price. Net is the amount left after the selling fee, payment processing, shipping, insurance, taxes and any currency-conversion charge.
  8. Publish a range, not false precision. Use a defensible low and high from comparable listings, explain which condition you used, and state the date and currency. A range reflects the difference between an urgent sale and a patient sale without implying a guaranteed outcome.

How condition changes the comparison

Factory sealed

A factory-sealed deck still has its original packaging intact. Cardmarket’s sealed category requires original packaging, so an opened box cannot be placed in that category merely because every card is still inside. Photograph the shrink wrap, seals and corners, because buyers may pay more for demonstrably untouched packaging but may discount crushed or torn boxes.

Opened but complete

An opened-complete deck contains every card listed for that deck plus its original tokens and included accessories. Keep the cards together and state whether they are sleeved, unsleeved or sorted into another box. Buyers may want to verify the list, so provide a clear inventory or photographs of the full stack. Do not describe a deck as complete if a card, token or accessory is missing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Incomplete or altered

Missing cards, tokens, deck boxes and packaging reduce comparability. List each missing item and any substituted card. A deck with aftermarket upgrades is not automatically worth more than an untouched preconstructed deck: value the original deck first, then describe upgrades separately with their individual condition and evidence of demand.

Collector’s Edition pricing is a separate market

The strongest illustration is Necron Dynasties. In the 20 October 2026 TCGplayer snapshot, regular Necron listings were around $278.99, with a $278.26 market price, while Collector’s Edition listings were around $599.99 and the Collector’s Edition market price was $671.17. The two figures describe different products and should never be blended into one average.

A four-deck Collector’s Edition case is another distinct item. TCGplayer displayed a $1,767.03 market price for the case. TCG Strat reported a $1,814.91 market price and a $1,721.54 median contents value on 10 September 2026, giving an EV ratio of 0.95x. TCG Strat defines EV as a probability-weighted average of current singles prices; it is an estimate of the cards’ value, not a guaranteed amount a buyer will pay for a sealed case.

When pricing a case, state whether it is factory sealed and whether the buyer receives all four decks in the original case. A case broken into individual decks belongs in four separate comparisons. A case with one deck removed is neither a sealed case nor a standard sealed-deck listing.

Using Cardmarket and TCGplayer without mixing their numbers

TCGplayer’s market figure is useful for a US-dollar reference, but inspect the underlying listings before adopting it. A market statistic can include listings with different conditions, shipping terms or quantities. Open several entries, remove obvious misidentified products and compare only the condition and edition you actually own.

Cardmarket’s Forces of the Imperium page showed 30 available items, a €200.00 starting price and a €210.59 price trend in the 20 October 2026 snapshot. Its rolling averages were €211.87 for 30 days, €216.87 for seven days and €219.00 for one day. The one-day average can move sharply when only a few sales occur; the 30-day figure provides a broader context, while the available-item count shows how much competing supply a buyer can see.

Use marketplaces that serve the geography where you will actually sell. A US seller can quote TCGplayer in dollars and separately check a local venue; a European seller can quote Cardmarket in euros and account for postage and taxes. Do not convert a US market price into euros and present the result as a Cardmarket price. It is a currency conversion, not an independent local benchmark.

Turning a gross reference into money you keep

Use this formula for each marketplace:

Net proceeds = sale price − marketplace fee − payment processing − shipping and insurance − taxes you owe − currency or payout charges.

For example, if you list at the market reference, enter that gross amount in a spreadsheet, then add the fee percentages and fixed charges shown by the marketplace for your account and destination. If you offer free shipping, enter the postage as your cost rather than treating it as zero. If the buyer pays shipping separately, record that payment and the amount you actually spend so the net result remains honest.

Do not publish an invented net percentage. Fee schedules differ by marketplace, seller status, payment method, destination and date. The benchmark table therefore leaves net values as not stated: calculate them from the terms that apply when you list.

Sealed value versus the value of individual cards

A sealed deck’s price can diverge from the sum of its singles. Opening a deck creates sorting, listing, packing and selling work, and individual cards may take time to move. Conversely, a buyer who wants the complete deck may pay for convenience rather than purchase every card separately.

Item being compared Reference Date and market How to interpret it
Collector’s Edition four-deck case $1,767.03 market price TCGplayer snapshot, 20 October 2026 Gross sealed-case marketplace reference; condition and shipping still need verification.
Collector’s Edition four-deck case $1,814.91 market price TCG Strat, 10 September 2026 Independent market reference from an earlier date; do not treat it as today’s guaranteed sale price.
Collector’s Edition four-deck case $1,721.54 median contents value TCG Strat, 10 September 2026 Median value of the cards, not a sealed premium and not net proceeds.
Collector’s Edition four-deck case 0.95x EV ratio TCG Strat, 10 September 2026 Contents estimate divided by the cited market price; EV is a probability-weighted singles estimate.
Warhammer 40,000 set cards $2.21 median card price Hoard, 19 October 2026, using TCGplayer references A set-level card-price reference; it does not identify the value of a complete deck or sealed product.

To perform your own contents check, export or manually enter every card in the deck, use current prices for the same printing and finish, and mark cards with no active market as unavailable rather than assigning a guess. Then subtract the costs of selling dozens of individual cards. The resulting net singles value can be compared with a complete-deck offer, but it should not be presented as the deck’s guaranteed cash value.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to price an opened complete deck

Start with listings explicitly described as opened and complete. If none exist, use sealed listings only as an upper reference and explain that your copy is opened. Next, verify the 100-card decklist, tokens and accessories. Photograph the commanders, foils, tokens, deck box and any wear that a buyer would notice.

Set a range with three numbers in your notes: the lowest credible complete-deck listing, the middle of the comparable range and the highest listing that has the same edition and condition. Your asking price can sit above the minimum if you are willing to wait; an urgent sale should be closer to the lower end after accounting for fees and postage.

Keep upgraded cards itemized. If you replaced a card, state the replacement and price the original deck as incomplete unless the replacement is accepted as part of the advertised configuration. This prevents a buyer from assuming the factory list is intact.

Common valuation mistakes and fixes

  • Mixing editions: Regular and Collector’s Edition results are different products. Filter by finish and packaging before recording a price.
  • Using a single outlier listing: One unusually low or high listing may reflect a mistake, damaged packaging or an incorrect product. Compare several like-for-like entries and record the available count.
  • Ignoring condition: Opened, complete and sealed are not interchangeable categories. State the condition in the first line of your listing.
  • Confusing asking price with a sale: A listing proves what a seller requests, not what a buyer paid. Include market or price-trend data where available and label every figure as gross.
  • Quoting an old screenshot as current: Add the date, currency and marketplace to every note, then recheck immediately before publishing or accepting an offer.
  • Converting currencies without local validation: Exchange rates do not account for regional supply, VAT, import charges or postage. Check a marketplace that serves your buyers.
  • Counting every card at its headline price: The sum of singles ignores selling costs, condition differences and cards that may not sell quickly. Present a contents estimate separately from a complete-deck value.
  • Assuming the case equals four deck prices: A sealed four-deck case has its own packaging and buyer market. Compare it with case listings, not just four unrelated individual listings.
  • Claiming appreciation against MSRP: No complete, attributable MSRP table is established in the available references here. Do not publish a numeric MSRP gain without a documented regional MSRP, edition and date.

A record-keeping checklist

Save the following information with your valuation so another person can reproduce it:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Exact deck name and whether it is an individual deck or four-deck case.
  • Regular or Collector’s Edition, including language and foil treatment where relevant.
  • Sealed, opened-complete or incomplete condition.
  • Missing cards, tokens, deck box, packaging or accessories.
  • Marketplace, seller geography and currency.
  • Lowest credible comparable, typical range, market or trend figure and available-listing count.
  • Date and time checked, plus screenshots or saved listing references.
  • Expected selling fee, payment charge, shipping, insurance, tax and currency-conversion cost.
  • Gross asking price and calculated net proceeds shown as separate amounts.

Recheck the figures immediately before you publish a listing or accept an offer. A timestamped range is more useful to a buyer than a single unexplained number, and it remains clear about what the seller can actually keep.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
